Microsoft making at least four new IPs

So was Crackdown 2 really that bad or just over reaction? I loved the first game and heard middling things about 2. Is Crackdown 3 something to be excited for?

Crackdown 2 was a good game but it felt far more like an expansion than a full blown sequel, and it needed more variety to the gameplay.

It feels good to read this thread and see that Microsoft may bring some kick ass "in house" games.

I honestly love MS strategy of entertainement, i just want them to not forget about the gamers who like games like Banjo, Crackdown, Dark Souls... I wish MS comes at E3 with some nostalgia games... Mechassault, Rallisport Challenge, Blinx... would be great to see comeback !

Yeah i think MS will be pretty aggressive with IP's as they were in 05. Hoping they still pursue Japanese devs as well, MS has worked with From Software on a bunch of exclusive IP's since the first xbox( Otgi, Murakumo, Metal Wolf Chao, Ninja Blade etc) i would love to see them collaborate again. next gen. Also Itagaki's team as well.

Oh man.

hm... I don't see anything crackdown-related in the David Jones linkedin profile. =(
Yeah, I'm pretty sure he's doing other things. I think Spencer is just soliciting feedback in the event that they revisit any old properties.

Also, can someone ask him about revisiting Voodoo Vince? That's one IP I'd like to see again.

Fucking A, got to love Phill Spencer. He's the best thing about the Microsoft XBOX team. That man knows what's up when it comes to getting games and what series. This man brought Alan Wake and many others I loved <3

Weird considering Dave Jones had no development on the second one, and didn't like that Microsoft went to Ruffian instead of going to Realtime Worlds.

Didn't Microsoft go to RTW for the second one when it was too late and they were working on APB? But some guys from RTW wanted to do it and thus Ruffian was formed?
I would have thought it would be a bit strange to be pissed at MS when they'd already moved on.

I would think if Microsoft offered Dave Jones a decent deal to work on it then they could get him back to work on the IP.

My name is TheOddOne and I have a problem, I snoop to much.

This is from an Ex-Ruffian level designer who now works at Ubisoft on Watch Dogs:

1) Some sales figures: Crackdown 2 sold 1.06 Million and Kinect Star Wars (ugh) 1.26 million.
2) "Unreleased first party action title" might refer to the cancelled Steampunk brawler for Microsoft.
3) Seems the running project now is other "unannounced action title". It could be for Microsoft (seeing as they give them tons of contract work) or it could be for another publisher (Their website refers to projects with multiple publishers).

Or it could refer to Ryse, as they are rumored to be working on the multiplayer component. Then again, I don't know where that rumor comes from, perhaps this was how it got started in the first place.

In any case, good job, as usual.

EDIT: Well, I suppose the time frame would be too early for Ryse. Or not, if they were working on it from the very beginning.

Yeah, that would be a good guess aswell. Seeing as they were apparently working on the multiplayer.

Is it common knowledge that Ruffian was involved with Star Wars Kinect and Nike+? I had no idea.
They were credited in Star Wars Kinect.

one million units for a game that had less production than a year with a new studio building up is very remarkable I will have to say. I think even Microsoft must have faith in the Crackdown IP if they still talk about it fondly. I know it's one of Spencers' favourite titles (And Nelsons) and I bet they would lick their lips on a full on next gen sequel done, especially when they might have some of the veterans back after APB working on this. It's a match made in heaven. Give me full on new city and gangs to kill and more varied missions.

Michael McConnohie as the voice of the agency is a must

If Ruffian is making Crackdown 3, count me out. Crackdown 2 was a good game because of Crackdown 1, not Ruffian. It was lazy development and no one would have bought the game if it wasn't a sequel to a successful one. The best parts of Crackdown 2 and what made it fun were the parts Ruffian didn't touch.

Also, if they are credited for Star Wars: Kinect, then they really are a lazy development team. I had to buy that game this past Christmas for a present and I couldn't believe that was given a green light. Ruffian might as well just stick to games based off movies in the box office because they fix that type of studio perfectly.

I have every faith in Ruffian
I have every faith that if given enough time

Why? Their only games are Crackdown 2 and then Star Wars Kinect. We don't if Crackdown 2 was rushed or not but if one thing is for sure, they haven't proven themselves otherwise. Until they release a quality title, I'm not going to look forward to their products. They are welcomed to prove me wrong though.

If it was bad due to Ruffian, it was because they were forced to rush it out. I believe the game went from go to woah within the space of 12 months (if that), and that was including a complete engine rewrite as they didn't have access to the core foundations that the first game was built on (or something like that).

I have every faith in Ruffian, I just don't have every faith in them being given the amount of time they need to push out a worthy successor to the original Crackdown. I guarantee you that if they'd known they had another 6-12 months on top of what they did have, we would've seen a vastly different, better game (rather than what was essentially a mod/reskin of the first).

Define lazy development. They were given mere months to develop a sequel and what they released, while not amazing, was still a good expansion on Crackdown 1.

Calling it Crackdown Plus or something along those would have suffices, but Microsoft are a bad sort and decided to label it as a sequel when it was anything but. Ultimately, ff anyone is to blame, it is Microsoft and Microsoft alone. Much in the same way Lucasarts are to blame for Obisidian releasing a half finished Knights of the Old Republic sequel.

I have every faith that if given enough time, Ruffian will develop a worthy sequel to Crackdown.

Microsoft are likely making a new Kinect IP as well, but I'd say none of the studios on here are behind those. Harmonix and Lift will be in charge.

The original Crackdown was one of my favourite early-era titles on the 360. The sequel somehow seemed worse than it was simply because it was so similar.

A Crackdown 3 on next gen would definitely get me excited.

Ironic, because the people who left RTW to found Ruffian were apparently the majority of the creative force that made Crackdown 1. In other words, you're basically saying that Crackdown 2 was a good game because of Ruffian, not Ruffian.

Even if Ruffian didn't have RTW staff, I never understand the notion that a team is only as good as the select known names at the top of the pile, even if they haven't had a chance to prove themselves. The same applies to Rare, the idea that they're now worthless shit because recognisable names have left is an uncomfortable and unfair judgement of the 150-200 people that remain. If anything, their work with Kinect shows that they're at the very least technically very capable and it was a more than competent take on the genre. It certainly doesn't imply that it's all they're good for.

Damn, excited to see what MS has been up to. All these new damn studios and what not but more than anything Remedy better show me some Alan Wake 2. Show me that and I'll throw my damn money.

TheOddOne, maybe you should create a new thread with a lot of the info you've found? Seems like there's stuff to be excited about. I didn't start this thread as it was split from another one and don't really fancy keeping the OP updated...

Do they still have stuff left from before the buyout? Seems like they just hired lots of people with experience in the racing genre with most of the old guys gone. Probably nothing to get excited about.

Who cares better then more kinect stuff.
Rather have them hire new people for ip then get another kinect sports.
