Microsoft making at least four new IPs

Do you actually own Kinect or are you saying you came across the game while reading?

I do own Kinect and out of the few games I've played, Once and Ninja are the best of the bunch. Apologies if my post wasn't clear on this point, I was multitasking at the time and didn't pay enough attention to what I was typing.

I mean Once is cool as a kid game but to say it's the best game outside of Kinect struck me as odd. Even Kinectimals in my opinion is a better game than 'Once' . But overall that game or even Fruit Ninja doesnt come close to being the best games for the peropheral.

I guess I'll ask this is here since there doesn't seem to be an Xbox 720 speculation thread that I can see, and feel free to tell me I'm stupid and that this is completely unfeasible since I literally have no idea what it would entail but there has been a lot of talk about streaming solutions lately with regards to both the PS4/720, and I was wondering earlier today if it would be possible to have a hybrid of both cloud streaming and playing from an install/disc.

Say if the majority of the game is on the console, but more intensive tasks could be handled by external rendering and streamed into the game. Obviously things that wouldn't be interfering with gameplay in a noticeably laggy way. It just seems like it would be an interesting way to keep a console graphically relevant while avoiding some of the pitfalls of a full streaming solution. It might account for the seemingly resource hungry OS too, and the 'always online' rumour.

Or maybe I'm talking out of my arse.

I totally think that the PS4 will be doing that of some sorts. I would not mind it but both should not go in it's way. I don't want to rely on cloud/streaming if I can't get online or my internet is bad (which happens sometimes sadly).

So Phil Spencer has been replying to some tweets and some of the replies are interesting to say the least. He even replied to some more harsher tweets.

He is definitely talking generalities there but that Rare comment is pretty specific as I think it is a given new IPs are in the hopper.

New IPs are always welcome, but new IPs alone won't cut it. They need to resonate. having yet another shooter as a new IP wouldn't be the most welcome news unless it did something very different from what we've seen so far.

The talk of a first person shooter, set in space with horror elements is one such IP that might resonate, but it all depends on how good the mechanics are, how well designed, etc.

I'd personally like to see them try something with mechs. There are woefully few games with mechs and I feel they could hit it big with such a game.

The comment about David Jaffe is interesting. He would be a steal if MS can sign him up.

Jaffe and Cliff would be absolutely amazing.
I think this is a mere pipe dream though.

A game with mechs would be awesome, especially fast moving and agile mechs.

Transformers shows that the general public are not anti-robot and with Pacific Rim coming out soon, an awesome mech game would really hit the spot for me personally...

No way. MS doesnt need Jaffe. Really cool guy wwho speaks his mind, but post the original GOW nothing he has done has been that crucial to the industry.

Would love MS to pick up Cliffy as he has been instrumental to the Xbox as a whole. They should throw a check at this guy and let him build the game he wants.

But, he might not want that.

Nah just look at all the mech games released this gen. None have been big hits.

New IPs are the biggest complaint from the MS detractors. Look at the new IPs that were announced during the PS meeting and I think MS is smart to release a big budget sci-fi shooter.

But, I agree like any game it better be good, because the bullseye is on anything MS at this point.

Wasn't it Cliffy who said something about how the Gears would look with less RAM, or how it wasn't possible with less RAM and that's why they went with what they did on the 360?

I could seriously see Bleszinski fitting in somewhere as a key person at MGS, either in a hands-on role or more directorial/management.

Yeah he is definately the reason for the 1 billion dollar upgrade. But that's why you see Sony taking the whole RAM thing as serious as they are.

MS better come with the specs or they will never hear the end of it.

If MS shows something before E3 they need to counter with new IP's because in that regard Sonys show was a bit lackluster. Love everything else they showed though and E3 will be where the games are.

They won't match Sony. Bank on it.
They probably don't feel like they need to. I haven't watched Sony's conference, but I get the vibe that they're more focused on BOOM ZOMG GAMING while MS will be more The Only Entertainment Hub You'll Ever Need™, I think.

So, I was right about the next inFamous :P

That's true. Very curious of how and why people change the company. Do they get recruitet? Are they bailing out? And why the "biggest competitor"?

I like knowing things, tell me internet ;)

MS will have the better launch probably, but yes I do think they need at least 1 big new IP (read: Hopefully not another shooter) for that launch. Give me something on Condemned's level and I'll be happy. It doesn't have to be a horror game, but just something on that level of quality since Condemned was the best game on 360 at launch.

That would be disastrous because when it comes to exclusive games, Sony's showing was less than stellar, to put it politely. But I expect they're saving the big guns for E3.

It was interesting to see one part of the next gen launch racer puzzle finally solved, at least partially.

Perhaps Phil Harrison's connections played a part in that.

Because industry is flexible once you have a nice resume you can work almost everywhere.

Well I think its too soon to say either way. I expect MS to announce several games, both new IP and sequels. I expect at least 4 or more new core IP and the same amount for Kinect oriented games. I also think that Sony hasn't shown all their cards yet. I expect to see more games announced and shown as the year progresses. On their showing yesterday, I think the first party games there are the ones that will be available at launch. We still have GDC, E3, Tokyo game show, etc for more announcements/information dispersal.

Anyway I have trust in both companies.

Condemned was a classic, that fucking abandoned mall level is still one of the freakiest things i've ever experienced in a game. I heard the sequel wasn't too good though. As for shooters, if there was any at the launch i would want it to be a new Perfect Dark. I know it won't happen but i can dream at least. Whenever MS decides to have their press event ( please be next month) i am hoping for Alan Wake 2 footage.

Sony's 1st party showings weren't brilliant, so this would be a good time for Microsoft have some strong showings, particularly as Halo's dead and Sony have exclusive content for Destiny.

Halo 4 fastest selling Halo title to date. So yea far from dead.

However, MS really needs to step it up with new core IP going forward. And yea I'm not talking Kinect SW. They have been warned time and time again this gen. They could float with the third party support for a very long time. Things could change easily next gen.

Simply put they cleared out too much this gen without properly investing in studios for next gen. Sometimes I really think RROD had much more of an internal impact on the structure of MGS than most folks perhaps know.

When did Halo die?...Must have missed that funeral.

Definitely news to me. I was playing Slayer most of last night and had no troubles whatsoever finding a match. *shrugs*

Yeah, i think they realize that too. Which is why they are rebuilding studios and hiring so much talent. You have a point about RROD as well.

False they invested heavily into next gen, which hasn't arrived yet.

New Ips don't mean a thing. How many Sony fans are planning on throwing away their PS3s because of Knack, The Media Molecule Move game, Drive Club, or Witness.

The excitement yesterdat was with the fourth installment of Killzone and multiplats.

Nobody is leaving the Xbox ecosystem to play multiplats like Destiny, Watchdogs, Battlefield 4, Modern Warfare 4, etc.

In fact games like Destiny are why Xbox gamers are going to double down next gen.

MS got plenty of new IPs in the works and more the will come down the line as they always have.

At the end of the day, gamers vote with their wallet and it's never been because a game is an exclusive or a new ip alone.

When did Halo die?...Must have missed that funeral.

From leader in console shooter innovation to becoming a cod copy cat. And the dwindling player numbers are quite the evidence if you ask me.

I really hope they stop doing that cod system of perks, i like you can choose your start layout(AR,BR and DMR start) but random drops and no significant map pickups please don't do that again for Halo 5. Halo 4 and Reach has shown it just isn't competitive.

Keep the perks and AA in Spartan ops but i want competitive halo back. It was fun for 2~3 weeks then it was cod for me and my friends.

When did Halo die?...Must have missed that funeral.

It didn't have one, its death was like the (spoilers Game of Thrones book 3)
Red Wedding
.

Fastest selling means Jack, Reach was fastest selling and it didn't touch Halo 3. I'd be surprised if 4 touches even Reach or ODST.

And that's just sales, don't get me started on the state of the story.

I guess Halo died at Reach apparently. I do not buy this argument. Do I see Halo 4 reaching 3 status? Probably not but far from dead.
