Microsoft making at least four new IPs

False they invested heavily into next gen, which hasn't arrived yet.

New Ips don't mean a thing. How many Sony fans are planning on throwing away their PS3s because of Knack, The Media Molecule Move game, Drive Club, or Witness.

The excitement yesterdat was with the fourth installment of Killzone and multiplats.

Nobody is leaving the Xbox ecosystem to play multiplats like Destiny, Watchdogs, Battlefield 4, Modern Warfare 4, etc.

In fact games like Destiny are why Xbox gamers are going to double down next gen.

MS got plenty of new IPs in the works and more the will come down the line as they always have.

At the end of the day, gamers vote with their wallet and it's never been because a game is an exclusive or a new ip alone.

I updated that with properly investing. They have not done proper core IP investing in the latter half of this gen. I'm a massive 360 fan, but this is clearly evident. Floating 1 core title or so a year is not proper investment.

I should add I remember years ago Stinkles just about going off the handle about this very point and saying they were coming.

They really didn't outside of Halo/Gears.

You clearly can't count if you believe that MS floated one core game the latter half of the generation.

Name the big core 360 games that made it in the first half of the gen that didn't make it in the latter. If you were this supposed 'massive' 360 fan then you were playing the games core gamers played.

If you werent then you were pretending that no games existed like many other have to do to make their point.

Again it doesnt change the point that MS invested heavily into new IPs for the next gen regardless of what you or I believe.

A platformer and Crackdown (or any other open world game in the veins of CD) - please. I like my shooters, but start fresh and make a new impression.

Ok, let's take last year for example and I said 1 or so.

Halo 4 and Forza. What from MS was released for the core as a retail product going all the way back between those to Forza 4. An entire year.

Now, help me remember all the others.

And I do believe as we see here they have some products in the pipe for next gen but by no means do I believe they invested properly this generation in SW for the next.

It didn't have one, its death was like the (spoilers Game of Thrones book 3)
Red Wedding
.

Fastest selling means Jack, Reach was fastest selling and it didn't touch Halo 3. I'd be surprised if 4 touches even Reach or ODST.

And that's just sales, don't get me started on the state of the story.

Fairly certain 343 came out and said Halo 4 was also the best selling Halo title, sorry bub.

And then take a look at what actual Xbox fans got to play at year Seven

Halo 4 (the biggest hardcore core exclusive in 2012 an the most expensive game in Xbox history)
Forza Horizon (Forza name but a completely new open world racing experience)
Witcher 2
Minecraft (Xbox 360 edition)
Trials Evolution
Fez
Mark of Ninja
Alan Wake Nightmares
Deadlight

Not to mention that MS originally published Mass Effect so of course they wouldnt compete with a series that over 2 million core Xbox gamers have supported since 2007.

The fact is it's year seven and Micrsoft released sequels to it's big guns and are releasing the big new IPs on the Next Xbox. It didn't stop the 360 core from being the biggest fanbase for Dishonored or playing the GOTY Walking Dead.

Why spend millions of dollars in resources conentrating on New Ips for the 360 going into year 8 when your spending millions of dollars to launch your new system?

Before this year Sony hadnt released a AAA New Ip since the year both Heavy Rain and Alan Wake were released.

If your a huge fan of gthe 360 franchises then you were one of the thousands of rabid fans that stood on lines at midnight for Halo 4.

If you are a MS detractor then of course you wine b-b-but's it's another Halo, while ignoring that Sony's AAA games shown on stage last night were Killzone 4 ala Halo 4 & the 3rd Infamous and Drive Club ala Forza Horizon.

In the end, huge games like Gears of War: Judgement are releasing for Gears fans and new IPs like Ascension: New Gods and Lococycle are releasing for Live while you can just look through GAF and see all the new IPs slated for the NextBox.

whatever these new ips are it wont help since nextbox is very weak and cheap.

They will just be current gen games with spiced up kinext2.0 features.

Hope you all enjoy!

Oh yes, because it makes logical sense that Halo 4 has sold 12 million copies in the last 3-4 months (it doesn't and it hasn't.)

Nope it's the fastest selling doing 7 million in 7 weeks and already outselling ODST life-time sales, the game you said it wouldn't outsell.

It'll still sell healthy in 2013 and who cares if it ever outsells Halo 3 as no other hardcore exclusive on any console will touch Halo 3 sales this gen.

3 years from now Halo 5 will have the same kind of frenzy on the Next Box guaranteed.

Condemned was a classic, that fucking abandoned mall level is still one of the freakiest things i've ever experienced in a game. I heard the sequel wasn't too good though. As for shooters, if there was any at the launch i would want it to be a new Perfect Dark. I know it won't happen but i can dream at least. Whenever MS decides to have their press event ( please be next month) i am hoping for Alan Wake 2 footage.
Oh man, those mannequin things scared the fuck out of me. Probably one of the best designed/drawn/whatever FPS levels I've ever seen. Creeped me the fuck out without feeling like it tried too hard (zomg blood on the walls! How scary! or whatever).

A platformer and Crackdown (or any other open world game in the veins of CD) - please. I like my shooters, but start fresh and make a new impression.
To cover as many bases as possible, I think we'll see at least one of the following types of games on launch:
Arcadey racer (PGR5?), show off pretty cars and city environments
Something open-world or at least, large in scale (so either an RPG or possibly Crackdown-ish)
Dudebro action game (I'm guessing new IP? People am a bit Haloed out. Could be combined with previous game)
Family friendly game (not XBLA, but a full-disc one. Probably Kinect 2.0 related and likely a pack-in)
A sports title (probably third-party. Maybe EA's basketball resurrection? Show off genuinely photorealistic players? Or maybe an equivalent to Sony's The Show?)
Alan Wake 2

And of course, a shitload of XBLA titles... mostly tech demos that fully exploit whatever social integration the new console is capable of.

Rare, whatcha ya doing?
Based at our custom built Twycross site, this role will involve you collaborating across the studio and with our middleware and first party partners. You will be responsible for defining and driving the way that physics based animation and gameplay moves forward within the studio and ensuring that Rare remains at the forefront of industry developments in these areas. You will be required to develop and maintain key partnerships across the studio and across the broader business and will be responsible for ensuring that external partners are delivering the solutions and support required.
Ok.
- Proven industry Engineering experience is a must and the successful delivery of a triple-A physics-based title a distinct advantage.
Ok.

i heard kinect 2.0 is a virtual reality helmet.

why haven't a company tried this yet actually? The graphics and tech is there. meh.

EDIT: i honestly didn't care for crackdown 2, never finished it. I welcome a sequel if done right.

I'd genuinely like to know why you felt it prudent to post this.

Trolls gonna troll.

Yeah that was easily one of the creepiest games i have played this gen, great game. If the Black Tusk game really is a more horror themed shooter, i hope it's close in feel to Condemned.

Not really interested in the helmet and glasses stuff TBH. I'd rather see MS do something more with this next gen:

I think it would be pretty cool in conjunction with Kinect.

I was thinking Kinest + Oculus Rift + Child of Eden. There's literally no reason it couldn't be done and have it work well.

How did Crackdown 2 end up? I remember passing on it.
It wasn't fantastic, but it wasn't horrible. Apparently most of Ruffian's efforts went into creating the existing city because they didn't have access to the engine/code that was used for the first one (given it was by RTW). So there wasn't a heck of a lot of room for creativity, especially considering they had a pretty tight timeline to go by (a year? 18 months or so?). I'll put it this way: I had more fun with it than the majority of similarly-styled gamed (Infamous, Prototype) but didn't have as much fun as with the original Crackdown. If you can find it cheap, I wouldn't hesitate to grab it. But fighting mutants is a far less interesting aside to jumping around a city than taking down criminal drug lords or whatever.
I still remember when it was first announced at E3 2009 (40 mins in... that darkness, then the sound of an orb. I remember being the happiest I've ever been with a press conference), because everyone knew RTW was working on APB and assumed it was going to be a single-game franchise.
But a third one, if the devs have been given enough time, could be one of the best things to have on launch as a pure eyecandy and all powerful superhero-esque experience. Don't remember noticing anything like that with the Sony presentation this week (but I could have missed it).

How did Crackdown 2 end up? I remember passing on it.

It's not bad, but it's nowhere near as the first game. It essentially builds on some elements of the first game but regressing in some aspects.

The removal of transforming vehicles was the biggest crime in my opinion, the gameplay, etc were still as good, if not better than the first game.

4 player co-op a significant advancement for the game, any sequel would need to have this as standard. The wingsuit was also a significant addition, as was the helicopter. The new weapons were very good too, with the light weapons and the spear guns being the more impressive.

With all this hire for physics and driving personnel, I won't be surprised if it is Rare who is developing PGR5, or atleast, they have a significant role in its making.

If this is true they just went from the console of shooters to the console of racers.

Forza Motorsport 5
Forza Horizon 2
Rare driving game.
PGR 5.

Or they're working on the new driving model for CRACKDOWN 3!

Eh, I got nothing. I could see Rare (not really being the same developer they were ~15 years ago) being involved with some of the grunt work behind a PGR game, but I don't think MS would relegate them to that.

Didn't think so..

He's right in that it was the best and fastest selling Halo game, at least according to 343i.

This is easily found via a search on Google. I appreciate he made the claim and so it falls to him to provide sources, but to attempt to claim he was lying or unable to provide a source when it's readily available on Google, is poor form.

I find it incredibly hard to believe that it has outsold Halo 3, particularly when the total sales figures in early-mid December were at 4 million. It would have had to have sold ~ 8 million between Christmas and now.

You may find it incredibly hard to believe, but unless you can directly contradict what 343i are claiming with hard data/facts, it's only an assumption on your part.

If your figures are accurate, I'd also question 343i claims, but until we have hard data, it's only a feeling and that's worth sweet FA.

Excuse me, but that article in no way implies Halo 4 has outsold Halo 3, 'best' is an ambiguous term and it comes across as deliberately misleading, it could quite frankly mean anything. I'm still waiting for actual 'hard data' from you guys.

You make a wild accusation, prove it. Stop playing semantics or moving goalposts. It doesn't serve to advance discourse, it only serves to make you seem upset and bitter.

You apparently have access to lots of sales data from past Halo games based on your previous posts, please do post those numbers and the sources so we might begin to the get the bottom of this pit of lies and ambiguous claims.

It's talking about launch aligned sales. Obviously halo 4 hasn't already outsold halo 3.

No, I've made a very reasonable accusation. Halo 4 selling 12 million copies in three months would be both remarkably and questionably good for the series, so quite rightly I would like to see the 'hard data' that confirms this, as it would change a lot about how I perceive the success of this title, and the strength of these new IP's going forward.

I have what is available, this does not include.

- 7 million in 7 weeks or
- 12 million in 12 weeks

This is what I had suspected, thank you.

I'd hope I'm not referred to as a Brickwall™. I haven't been posting long enough to gain such a moniker.

He is referring to myself, he is bitter about our previous encounters.

Horizon 2?

I certainly hope so, but I have my doubts.

If Horizon 2 wasn't coming I'm sure one of two things would have happened, Playground Games would've shut down or come out saying that they are moving on from the franchise.

Forza Motorsport has never sold particular great but Microsoft allows it to keep going I don't see why Horizon couldn't continue also.

I don't believe it was reasonable in the slightest, although it's become apparent from your later comment that you wrongly assumed they were referring to lifetime sales and not launch window sales.

A rather amateurish mistake to make if you don't mind my saying.

He is referring to myself, he is bitter about our previous encounters.

Thank you.
