Microsoft making at least four new IPs

They had been working on "Project Columbia" but it was canned.
That was a different team. I'm pretty sure they are fairly fair along on their current project. I would be surprised if we see nothing of it this year.

Interesting. Doesn't the studio house roughly 50 devs at the moment? That's not a lot of dev power if they were working on 2 different projects, especially if one of them is supposed to rival Halo.

Bah, it was only greenlit 5 months ago?

What the hell have they been doing in the meantime? Wasn't the studio set up a couple of years ago?

Microsoft Flight and Project Columbia.

After Project Columbia was canned, half the team was laid off and the other half formed Black Tusk and began prototyping ideas for a AAA game.

We probably won't be seeing this thing at E3. If anything, it will be a quick CGI teaser trailer.

Sorry to bump this old thread but what if that Rare "mature title" is actually a Conker's Bad Fur Day sequel? How amazing would that be?

Where did you hear this? That's not true at all. (I really hope it didn't come from that podcast you mention because that would mean the guy is lying.)

Black Tusk was MGS Vancouver (also known as Zipline Studios at one point, but MS couldn't secure the name so it didn't stick), which has been around since 2010. I think they initially were supposed to create casual social games for Facebook, but their mandate changed and they began working on a military Kinect shooter. That was cancelled at some point, and they've been on their current project for at least a year.

If you're referring to the layoffs there were several sites that reported it. IIRC Kotaku originally reported it.

Edit: It was indeed.

Those layoffs were unrelated to the Black Tusk studio and came from BigPark and other IEB staff in Vancouver.

Where the hell did this Bethesda exclusivity or relationship rumour come from? Any credence to that? I doubt they'd do anything beyond exclusive DLC.

I see, so basically the news was distorted by other sites. Thanks for the clarification.

I think it's mainly based off MS' relationship with Bethesda and also Oblivion having been a timed exclusive at the start of current gen. It's also highly likely MS will be going after some third party exclusives.

One of Bethesda's IP's being a timed exclusive is plausible in my opinion.

well i expect alot of new ip's ms did the same with 360. bout half way through first xbox generally didnt bother much with exclusives and waited for 360 and the same thing happend this gen, after bout 4 years didnt bother too much with exclusives.

So it's likely that whatever they're working on is a Kinect 2.0 game, huh? This is not what I wanted to hear.

Nope, they cancelled the Kinect game. This is Kinectless. Unless there is something like minor voice commands.

No it really isn't - I need to know more information than that.

What more do you need? They cancelled a brand new RPG IP from the masters of the RPG genre. Even without knowing what the game was about, etc, I feel 100% safe in saying it was a stupid decision.

You don't just cancel an Obsidian game, man. You just don't.

That's not much to go by. Before this gen I would've called Ubisoft the masters of stealth with SC.

Difference is that Obsidian have upped their game this generation with the likes of Alpha Protocol, New Vegas and the upcoming Stick of Truth. Whereas Ubi have sunken to depths they can no longer recover from.

Let's just sweep Alpha Protocol under the rug shall we? Wait a minute...., do you like Alpha Protocol?

Oh my God you like Alpha Protocol don't you?

There was nothing fundamentally wrong with AP. The core was one of the most solid this generation, story was well executed, characters were well defined and had depth, actions had real consequences throughout the game and the combat was incredibly satisfying.

Sure it was buggy, had a ton of technical issues, but It was literally the second best RPG released this generation. The first being New Vegas.

Unless they weren't hitting their milestones on time? Also "masters of the RPG genre" surely that is a your IMHO?

http://thedakotagame.com
http://dakota.msgamestudios.com/

don't bother clicking, the links won't work, but does anyone known what it is? The first is a domain registered by Microsoft this year, and the latter is a MGS subdomain that has been around for awhile (I always assumed it was just a server name). Both point to MGS ip addresses

just to expand on this, as I originally thought but edited out of my post, the "thedakotagame.com" domain was registered by Proxy and just transferred to MS on 3/28/2013

Also, it now points to an actual webserver but throws up a 403 message

Probably not CBFD. Especially with no Mr. Seavor. If it is an existing IP it is probably Perfect Dark as mentioned or Jet Force Gemini. JFG seems possible, again if existing IP, because the cancelled JFG XBLA port that was rumored and the recent Minecraft JFG skin packs.

Yes Ms are going to completely ignore the type of games (such as halo,GOW,fable, forza) that have brought them the most game sales

people who say kinect party, kinect or war etc

just demonstrate there ignorance or fanboyisum by ignoring this obvious and logical business decision.

You crazy, people are so clever and funny spamming every MS related thread with this.

Certainly they won't just drop these franchises when people are still interested in them. However, all four seem to be in decline, so I don't think they have any choice but to cultivate some new IP.

Fable 4? Not sure what to think. I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt though now that Molyneux has gone.

I don't think we'll see this game any time soon.

I was pretty disappointed by Fable this gen, but I do have an open mind on what they may be working on next.

How in god's name is Forza in decline? The games keep getting better and better and their selling better than ever. Halo 4's campaign was the best yet and is hardly indicative of a declining franchise, as far as I'm concerned, and it's also the best selling Halo title ever so far.

GOW and Fable I do think are in clear decline, but Forza and Halo? No amount of fan drama, particularly as it pertains to Halo, can hope to convince me of such.

I was purely talking about sales. I was under the impression that Halo 4 sales are well under those of Halo 3 and Reach, despite having a much larger addressable audience. And I'm pretty sure Forza Horizon hasn't sold nearly as well as its predecessors.

But I won't discount the possibility that declining sales are partially due to generational fatigue.
