Microsoft marketing push for Xbox One has started

Actual ad from India:

I keep seeing the advertisement that says:

Xbox One - The best value in gaming and entertainment.

It bugs the shit out of me because it is so far from the truth. The 360 will be a much better value when the Xbox One comes out.

i thought the 300k servers thing was sketchy?

Quite a lot of that 300K number is going to be virtual servers

I doubt legally anything on that is a lie

Half of it at least appears to be PR speak which makes perfect sense

If sony felt like making one, it'd be similar I'm sure

Sort of. There's some misleading stuff in there.

  • The 111 E3 awards bullet is meant to leave the impression that all of their exclusives cleaned up, when it was almost entirely Titanfall.
  • 1080P/60FPS is meant to imply that all of those games will meet those criteria, but not so much. AFAIK, only Forza.
  • Ditto "adaptive AI".
Not a lie. Just an implication of how you read it.
No it doesn't?
Marketing speak.

Still no blatant lies.

Technicality. Not a lie.

Still sketchy. But it's better than the last ad if I recall.

Yeah. I got that email with the huge checklist image today, too. In fact, I've been getting a lot of Xbox marketing emails since the reveal. It's amusing following things closely on GAF and being able to see all the marketing spin in a lot of those bullet points.

In contrast, I don't think I've received a single marketing email from Sony regarding the PS4. But I don't remember if maybe I opted-out of emails from Sony and not Microsoft for my PSN and Live accounts respectively.

You know, im really glad Sony and Valve are pushing MS in the ass. Competition always delivers better products. MS need a reason now more than ever to blow people away. Fear is good is what i say. Good for everyone. But mostly good for gamers.

their last Ps4 email was about taco bell contest.

Microsoft seriously need a word with their marketing department.
We're eventually going to see "Xbox One: It's a console" plastered everywhere if they keep this up.

As a dad myself, I love to see that kind of unbridled joy from a kid.

As a Dad yourself, you should be able to tell the difference between acting and a real reaction.

There are millions of kids around the world that will be over the moon at the xbox one launch day, but this one isnt one of them.

That infographic-style ad seems to be really pushing it. Those are the sorts of statements you usually see with a bunch of *'s and footnotes. How are they getting away with only having the one about Skype?

Maybe one of those calculated-risk scenarios where they could get backlash but it wouldn't be significant enough?

It could be that I'm extremely tired but I don't understand what you're talking about.

Keep it vague enough

I.E. saying 300K Servers doesn't mean they aren't virtual servers (mostly)

A judge is never going to rule against MS if a XBL member does in fact meet at least 1 jerk as it would be argued MS simply meant they are working towards eliminating jerks

It goes on and on

Honestly it's the most dense spin I've ever seen so much stuff on there

So much PR BS

Eh, I don't really have any major beefs with any of the claims. The biggest stretch is probably "No Jerks." Anyone who has played anything online anywhere knows they'll never meet that goal.

I'd love this to be true but I don't think it is...

It is true.

There are GAMES and there are APPS

GAMES take up the vast majority of system performance. You can only have one game running at a time.

APPS work differently. They run in their own VM, and you can have several different Apps running at the same time (I think it's 4, but don't hold me to that). They take away NO performance from Games.

So you can instantly switch between Apps, and you can snap Apps to Games. You do just about any combination EXCEPT two full games.

And then more recently...

The Xbox One can run four apps at the same time in the background. Switching between them is not unlike how it would work on your mobile phone. It's instant... While you can run multiple apps, only one game can be run at one time.

It could be that I'm extremely tired but I don't understand what you're talking about.

Talking about potential additional sales from the claim about Titanfall outweighing any potential suits from people going "WTF you said this was the only console where we could play Titanfall, and we bought it for that reason, but it's on PS4 now"

'Supports 1080p/60 fps for cinematic realism'

Is that 'supports' in the sense that a sports fan supports a team, but doesn't actually play for them?
