I'm not saying that MS was right going for AR instead of VR - but maybe, just maybe, AR isn't all that either (at least in its current state).

Edit just read the article, The light from the glasses would give away your position to the enemy. Head Shot! Yea this sounds like it's not a good idea.

According to this article, the US Army considers the goggles to be a success in most applications so far...

"A spokesperson for the Army told Insider that tests of the goggles — known as the Integrated Visual Augmentation System, or IVAS — were so far considered to be a success. 'The emerging results indicate that the program achieved success in most of the Army evaluation criteria,' Brigadier General Christopher D. Schneider told Insider in a press statement."

VR can take a long time to get used to and I bet it is the same for AR. Even well trained soldiers I think might have to use those things for years to really get used to it. I think the upcoming generation of soldiers will be more used to a virtual environment.

Im not sure how you experience nausea in AR. VR nausea is from visual movement not matching your body movement. AR will always match.

Eye fatigue seems the most likely. Or headaches.

I would think it would be used to show friendlies and groups/ squadrons, advances, engagements and yes, wall hacks of positions that are engaged.
It would all back fire once the enemies put it on, but Im sure theyll work that out.

I can think of tons of applications.. As a HUD for your equipment/environment (Ammo levels, oxygen, temp, humidity, wind speed), Communications and enhanced navigations based on AWACs, Drone footage, radar etc....

Even the AUTO-AIM scenario is not that far fetched to an extent.. System takes in all of the data points crunches the numbers and eventually displays your angle and trajectory to fire your weapon.
