Microsoft Points and Xbox One

Does the community expect this form of currency ported over from primarily Xbox 360 to the Xbox One?
Will they divide by 80 and convert to eCash? Windows 8 deals with dollars and not allards.

A new generation and a new generation of payment?
Can MSP continue forever or will it be killed.
Can Microsoft really kill MSP and not transfer it over to XBO?

Can a games news and journalism outlet try and contact Microsoft for some information on the future of Microsoft Points?
If no answer can be given about the MSP to $$ conversion, at least try and get a comment on MSP to XBO.

I would imagine they will be killing off MS Points for the Xbox One. Without backwards compatibility there's no point in bringing it over. That said you'll likely still be able to buy them for the foreseeable future.

They better convert them as I have a ton of them on my account and would like to use them for future purchases, not just 360.

Why would they even bother?

Microsoft Points will probably remain supported on Xbox 360 and (as IAP) on Windows Phone before being completely faced out.

Windows Phone supports points?

Isn't this change to real money rumoured to be happening on 360 as well as the One? I'm sure they'll convert points to money, would be stupid not to.

Let me use points at the Microsoft Store to buy an Xbox One.

I'd hope so. It's one account and they plan to keep selling stuff on the 360 after the One launches. It should be one payment system for both platforms.

i'll be awfully disappointed after today's points spree if they don't carry over to xbone in a conversion of sorts. i can't imagine the outrage if they just said "nah, can't use them at all on new xbox live"

I guess we will have to wait to July to see if a conversion is true. Or a news site to break the news of a conversion or port.

That isn't their fault though, it's yours. Ever since the Xbox event it's been stated that they wouldn't be using points. Or at the very least, heavily alluded. It's not Microsoft's fault you decided to splurge on discounted points.

Why would anyone reasonably expect that points (which cost money to buy) won't be converted to whatever new system they use? If a game costs 400 MP now it will convert to 5$ later just like your points should. There's no tangible difference.

Definitely, saying otherwise is stupid as shit. The same would apply if people bought 3 years of gold and found out it can't transfer to the next Xbox, that would be totally fair to some here I'm sure.

You can buy Games on Demand with either real currency or MSP, so there's already a system in place for both to coexist. I imagine Microsoft will either convert MSP to currency or leave MSP in place but halt sales of new points. Probalby the former, since it's less complicated.

Not allowing MSP to carry over to the One wouldn't be wise from a sales standpoint. People with leftover points are more likely to buy the new console so they can be spent on new games. If Microsoft blocks points form carrying over, they'll be left with angry 360 owners who lack any incentive to upgrade to the new Microsoft console.

(I know the difference in this thread is basically adding the "Are they going to convert them?" -- and the answer is basically there's no information about that right now, no one can guess. Maybe they'd convert, maybe they wouldn't, and if they did no one knows how they would. The Verge thread suggesting they're phasing them out in the 360 as well would suggest that yes they're converting them.)
