[Microsoft] New Year, New Rewards with Xbox

adamsapple

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
My buddy got banned from Rewards for doing the three years of GamePass for $1 trick, he was banned after that $1 trial month expired, to the day. That was two years ago, and he's STILL banned. I feel bad as I'm the one that told him to do it, and to this day Rewards work just fine for me. Curious how many people this actually affected, as I've never heard anyone else mention it.

Are you talking about converting Gold or Core to Ultimate? That is not a 'trick', that's officially sanctioned conversion.

And I don't see why that would get you banned from Rewards.

I look forward to my MS rewards from my time on PS5 after all EVERYTHING is xbox

It was never a trick/exploit, how do you think anyone even found out about it, MS literally put it in their terms and conditions outlining exactly how the gold > game pass conversion worked. 🤦‍♂️

No he didn't get banned for that, nobody has.
It was if you weren't a new sub. This was considered a violation of the ToS to Microsoft Customer Service when he inquired, hence the ban once the trial period ended. You know, the one they CLEARLY outlined.

What is unclear is if it gets lifted once the three years is up.

Ask him yourself, his gamertag is POOPBALLS

Their terms said nothing about "new subs", in fact the entire wording for the conversion was "If you’re already an Xbox Game Pass or Xbox Live Gold member, any days remaining in your membership(s) will be converted to Ultimate using a conversion ratio"
The 1$ trial also doesn't even show up for users if it doesn't apply to them.

So yes your friend did something else that was ban worthy, converting gold to ultimate isn't and never was.

I wish they got rid of the search cooldowns. I would manually do all my searches and still got hit with the 4 searches per 15min cooldown. No where in the terms does it say how or why you get the cooldown even when doing legit searches.

Also, if you randomly got banned it's because of a system error.

Yeah, and then you take a look at the actual ToS, and what does the second sentence read?
"Promotional offers may be for new members only and/or not be valid for all members and are only available for a limited time"

Microsoft Customer Service told him he violated the ToS. He doesn't use chat, exploit, use a Cronus, etc. He doesn't even own a pc, so no .bat script shit, etc. And this was years before the erroneous system error bans. He literally bought an Xbox just for Forza Horizon 5, and at the time was the only game he was even playing.

Normally I'd agree with you, and suggest something else got him the ban, but it's literally what he was told.

"Promotional offers may be for new members only and/or not be valid for all members and are only available for a limited time"
Gold to ultimate conversation is not a promotional offer, and it's impossible for new users because it only applies to people that have active gold time obviously.
And again, the 1$ offer doesn't even show up if you can't use it on your account, so your friend did some other shit, no way around it.

Getting it for $1 was.
If you read the ToS it even indicates that it is a promotion, and thusly subsequent months are full price. (That bit is irrelevant though, as it's about the terms of the monthly price, not the actual conversion.)

Anyways, I'm sick of repeating myself. Either you believe me/him or you don't, I don't really give a shit either way.

Even if the dude was "exploiting" xbox deals, why would he be banned on rewards? what does rewards have to do with anything? just doesn't make sense lol

What part of it not showing up for a user if it doesn't apply?
Sounds like your friend went looking for a promo code somewhere and manage to apply it somehow; I say somehow because if it detects you aren't eligible, it won't even allow you to redeem the code.
So again, your friend did some fuckery.

I was able to get $1 GamePass multiple times, I reupped twice with it. This is technically against ToS, as I quoted in the post above. If that's fuckery, then sure....but that's what I've been saying all along, and others insist this was no "trick/exploit'. Was the "not showing up" for previous subscribers bit broken? Or not originally part of the terms? Keep in mind this was over two years ago now.

I’ve been doing the five day one every week for a while. With that you end up completing the weekly and monthly quests. 12000 points for a free month of Ultimate. I’m still stacked until December 2027.

Yup same, I’m good until Dec. 20, 2027. Thanks entirely to the Rewards program. I’ve had Game Pass pretty since the start and have never paid for it.

It does look like 150 for console and 150 for PC from what I can see this morning on the console when I go to rewards however the Game Pass app on Windows doesn't seem to show a rewards tab yet.

Rewards with Xbox are our way of, well, rewarding you for your love of gaming, and today we’re thrilled to announce new ways for players to earn points. From expanding Quests to PC Game Pass, to reimagining the Game Pass Quests you use to earn points, to weekly Rewards for all Xbox players 18 and older, there are lots of new ways to earn points through your play time.

Lastly, today we’re sharing an important update on earning Rewards with Xbox. This update aligns more closely with our continued commitment to foster positive, age-appropriate gaming experiences by making points earned through play activities available only to players 18 years and older.

That last part looks like Europe might consider something in this scheme to be somehow gambling-related, something's got them worried about crossing a line at least.

Anyway, love how these schemes are painted as a means for users to get kickbacks for just naturally doing what they're already doing while simply promoting loyalty and reinforcing engagement in return, but they're functionally a play-to-earn meta game designed to develop long term behavioural patterns while constant fluffing engagement numbers - don't worry, it's purely coincidental that top execs get to meet bonus payment targets far easier when you're clicking away every 15 minutes and firing up any old dogshit game you'd never normally touch just to say you have and so they can see you have and ++ an number to prove it. Wonder if the conditioning is as compelling (addictive) for some as my mate who's been reprogrammed some shit world building mobile game he "plays" to basically plan his entire day around cooldowns and boosts (along with spending thousands over the years, obvs).

I get why people would willingly partake if they're stuck at a desk all day on someone else's time, there's no shame or blame for "taking advantage" or gaming it... but burning your own free time for pitiful virtual currency dropsies? Nah, it's got the whiff of all the fun and positivity of an Axie Infinity scholarship's peon/master relationship. *cracks whip*

Finally no need to get an achievement almost every day to finish the monthly quest, now I just need to play games I like and I'm not forced to play some games just to get achievements.

Now if only Diablo IV PC was counted toward PC games being played that would be nice as it's on Game Pass but for now it never counted, not even "Play a game on PC".

Isn't it cause you're basically using the Battle.net launcher and not game pass itself to play?

You can just use any random game like Donut County and for it :p

Also, new reward are up in the hub and I'm pleasantly surprised to see the PC streak is separate from consoles, I thought they would be stingy and merge them together.

Now, it'll be interesting to see if the multipliers apply to both, if that would be the case, that's pretty good.

Its a significant downgrade. 350 monthly bonus for playing 8 games. 1000 pt bonus is gone. Weekly streak is total of +100. X4 weeks is +400. Weekly bonus for me this week is 175. So Im guessing this multiplier is like +25 pts.

The blurb says x4, so it would logically be 150x4.

Surprised to see your weekly is 175, mine is 150. Odd.

I play mostly Diablo or Indiana Jones currently on PC, sadly Diablo has to be launched through Battle.net (which is liked to my Xbox account and is launched when I launch the Xbox App), but it's not counted either as a PC game nor a Game Pass Game.

If I don't play Indiana Jones I'll just launch Solitaire Collection on PC and let it run for 15 minutes or even do a few games.
When I could not start a game on my console or PC just to get the old "Play a Game Pass game" quest, I just had to start Solitaire Collection on my phone and it counted as a Game Pass game.

There's a reason Little Kitty Big City was my third most played game of the year in 2024 lol, very small size, light weight and quick to launch. Just start it and let it sit for 15 mins while I'm off making breakfast or something.

No, the weekly's show 150 for me for both PC and Console separately :(

But I do have a new multiplier table at the bottom.
To be fair - I think its changed today along with everything else. I used to get the extra 25 on day 5 and its only day 2 for me so will let you know.

EDIT: checked on console, still 175.

I think they got rid of the achievement daily and made it so that you actually have to PLAY for 15 mins to get the four and eight monthlies. I’m not sure yet tho

Edit: cool, yep, shoulda read the OP before posting 🥴

So I gotta play 8 Game Pass games, don’t I?
Cuz I got a handful of regular non game pass games I’m tryna play for 15 mins.
It actually seems like quite a task to get 2 hours over 8 game pass games….
