Both of you are on copium.
Did Sekiro, Elden Ring, Overwatch or Zelda BotW put an emphasis on nostalgia or storytelling ?
MS just has no games that have the potential of being GOTY.
Their old franchises are stuck in the past with their dated gameplay (Gears/Halo...) and their new licenses don't even get enough financial support or lack real talent to be worthy of the title.
- RARE = stuck with Sea of Thieves
- Inxile = Yet another FPS with Clockwork Revolution, though it could be good, it doesn't have the potential of being GOTY
- Obsidian Entertainment = focused on making AA mid quality games... yay prepare for Outer World 3 and Avowed 2
. To think Avowed had the potential to be the next Elder Scrolls in the beginning...
- Bethesda = Stuck with their old engine, we'll see if ES6 can escape the comparison with the competition. We're not in 2011 anymore where open world were still a novelty, and their writing team has been abysmal in Fallout 4 and Starfield.
- Activision / Blizzard = COD will never be GOTY. Only Blizzard have the potential, but their output is not comparable with their golden years.
- Ninja Theory = given the ridiculous scope of their games, they don't even have a chance to be nominated in the GOTY category. And if we're talking about quality...
- 343 = they have shown their incompetence with Halo
- Coalition = they have shown their incompetence with Gears
- Turn 10 = Only Forza Horizon could win on a relatively calm year. But with the Chinese and Korean competition rising, let's just say the odd of a calm year is pretty low nowadays. Fable looks to be taking way too much time, with full DEI damages.
With Gamepass, the odd of an very ambitious game capable of winning GOTY is low. I guess only ES6 is up to the task, and it won't be an easy one, the RPG gaming landscape has changed and ES will need big changes too to stay relevant.
