There's a meaningful difference between a game which popularity peaks soon after release and fades within the year and a console which is supposed to hang around for 5-7 years.

Shit, I live in the area and have DNS issues at times. Enjoy not playing my 720 because it can't find the MS X-box Live IP, I guess?

That said, the area is far better than some of the rural areas or fly-over states because it's a University town.

You say this, but you can bank that I'm not buying the 720 if it's always online. I'm already pissed about having to have 4 replacement 360's crap out on me to where I don't want to buy another MS console again.
Same for Sony and Nintendo really before someone starts that up
The whole X-box Live and other shit is just the icing on the cake. This would be the final nail in that coffin.

Yep, these always online games just blow over with no controversy. Nobody even remembers them.

MS is shooting themselves in the foot. A console that only works online will be a huge no no for a lot of people. They will go for a PS4 that's for sure.

I was thinking that those tweets were good points, but then I realized that a console does not NEED to be online to play a game. That being said, I don't really care that much that's it has to be online to play a game.

You're insinuating because it was "confirmed for used games," it will not at all require an internet connection at any point in time. Right?

Seeing that Gamestop went out of their way to say positive things about Durango, one would assume that it, too, would allow used games, thus not necessarily forcing you to be online.

I actually went to school the day after it ended for summer vacation to help a teacher move his classroom to a different room. We ended up playing Goldeneye, Vice City, and Starcraft WITHOUT AN INTERNET CONNECTION!

I wonder how many times "Fucking Cox!" was yelled in my apartment when I was at UF. So many problems. Though part of that might have had to do with living in a building built in the 60s.

I had somewhat frequent issues in the dorm my freshman year as well. One time it was out for several hours, so I took the opportunity to beat MGS3. Good times.

With all that said, I think this could work. We're the vocal minority that doesn't really impact the sales future of this new console. I'm mostly curious about how they'll spin this story to be favorable. They'll certain alienate some people here but internet petitions/boycotts have proven to be weak at best. We're all hypocrites. Hoping to see what the new console is. They're taking chances at least.

There is still a difference between being able to buy used games at gamestop (with an official activation code they get cheaper from Microsoft) and being able to borrow your mate's game or run one you buy off ebay.

Gamestop would actually be pretty happy about that scenario so it doesn't mean a lot.

If anything, your examples just prove that regardless of how poorly these games were rolled out, these companies still apply it to BIG releases. And they will continue to do so, because they continue to sell BIG.

its using the always online feature to implement DRM that is at issue. Not always online in it self.

I don't think so at all. I think now more than ever with the massive amount of information that people have access to, you have to actually sell your product better than ever. People are learning that devs will smile and paint a pretty picture and than just release crap(Aliens, WarZ, etc.)

COD is consistently the highest selling franchise because people know exactly what they are getting, not what they aren't. You(and me) may not agree with the content, but if your interested in a product you have videos/articles/podcasts/forums/walkthroughs/etc. that can essentially tell you exactly what the product is about.

I'm not interested or impressed in what I've seen of the PS4, but I know that a lot are because the access to information for it is pretty solid and people can make a decision for themselves in regards to a purchase if they deem it to be something they like.

720 info will start pouring out very soon and people will be able to gauge exactly what to expect from it just the same. PC gaming is more popular now than ever before and there are too many games for me to choose from, I have the benefit of Youtube being able to tell me if I will like something.

Though, I did buy Alien:CM. It was a beautiful bait and switch and I've learned my lesson. I was part of the problem.
