Microsoft Surface Pro 4 announced: "better in nearly every way" (The Verge)

How does the M3 version work for some light Photoshop work? Thinking of picking one of these up if the price is right.

Haven't tested it yet with PS or Lightroom.

Played Dota 2 on my 1440p monitor on low settiings without a problem. These integrated graphics are better then expected. And I really love the dock, it's so convenient.

I just hope it will work with the next version of Surface Pro too as it's fucking expensive

I use my SP4 m3 nearly every day for light Photoshop stuff and it's amazing.

I use my MBP for Lightroom but I did load LR on my SP3 i5 when I had one and it seemed to work really well in the brief time I tested it.

Work gave me a SP4, didn't realise how much I wanted a tablet till actually having one. I like the performance, Windows hello, the type cover, kickstand, it is quite awesome

It is, and I like it as a tablet, just not in tablet mode. I never use that. Everything works great with touch in non-tablet mode.

Yes, I'm tempted by that keyboard.

On another note, I'm having my SP4 replaced because of bad backlight screen bleeding (3 fingerprint sized dots in the middle of the screen).

I like how uncomplicated and good Microsoft are about replacing faulty hardware.

I really don't like that I have had to have my S2 replaced, my SP3 replaced (twice) and now my SP4, too. All for different hardware problems.

For a premium product with the apparent production values, that's really not great at all. They need to sort that out.

Did I just run into the infamous sleep mode issue?

It went to sleep and now wakes up to a blank black screen. I can tell that the screen lit up but it's not responding. Holding the power button let me shut it down (the shut down screen showed up fine) but powering it back on brought me back to the same problem. A blank screen.

I'm sure my sp4 has been getting the latest updates because the previous few updates forced me to restart when it randomly disabled the touchscreen.

Edit: Holding the power and volume up button for a really really long time seems to have fixed it. It started doing another round of system uodates. Sucks to have such a problem though.

In other news, Sleep mode is definitely not fixed with the SP4 i7 model - over time it still crops up annoyingly.
Yeah, it doesn't happen as often as before, but it also became much more unpredictable.

On another note, does anyone know of touch issues with Chrome/-ium? I'm using Vivaldi, which is based on Chromium 49 / Blink 537.76. In the beta, touch worked pretty much flawlessly, now it's not recognizing anything dependent on the website(!). The UI still works and the touch flag is set to enabled, but most annoyingly GAF doesn't work with any touch gestures anymore.

I want that keyboard even though my SP4 is just a drawing machine so like 95% of the time a keyboard doesn't make sense.

If there was a ~14" SP5 I think I could sell my Mac and be a Surface only boy.

I have felt Alcantara in the 2016 Nissan Maxima, and it feels extremely luxurious and soft to the touch.

While that's nice, I'm most interested in the larger glass trackpad. I'll swing by my local Microsoft store today to see if I want to throw down the cash on another type cover.

don't see what's so special about the cover. Looks pretty much like the normal Type cover 4?

It's not just an accessory. You live with it and it lives with you.

lol

Great looking keyboard. Alcantara is wonderful. I have the shift boot, steering wheel, handbrake boot, and center console cover covered with it in my 330ci

I need help! I has windows freezing on mysp3, and had to force shut down by holding the power button. But since then it won't get past the Surface splash screen when I try to turn it on.

I already left it fora whole day and it was stuck.

And to make things worse the recovery shortcut (volume down and power) doesn't work either. The Bios one is, but I can't restore it from there, nor make any changes that fix it.

Edit. I disabled the wifi from the bios setup and it boot instantly XD

Edit 2: Not WiFi, it's actually Bluetooth.

But now when I try to login it tells me my device it's locked, that I should leave it for two hours on a power outlet for security reasons.

Was getting battery drain and the device running extremely hot. Turns out it was that new messenger app with Skype integration. Deleted that and now everything is copacetic.

I'm amazed MS still can't get Skype right. It's always something with that damn app.

So, I love my Surface Pro 4, where's that Surface Phone?

Is there ay way to force an firmware/driver update on SP3?

I'm having all kinda of issues and it definitely seems something iffy going on with either the drivers or the firmware.

- Any application or app that tries to use hardware acceleration causes a reboot. Everytime, and it's instant.
- Very very often when rebooting it gets stuck on the Surface splash screen. I've left for a whole day already and didn't go past that screen. I can only get past that by disabling bluetooth via the bios, or force rebooting for a few hundred times (and I'm not kidding).
- With bluetooth on the battery consumption is just surreal, it drains about 2% per minute, and even when sleeping a full battery won't last for more than 4 hours.

This all started happening on an insider build (not one specific) but now even going back to the regular branch these issues still happen. Which makes me think that the hard rebooting is keeping whatever firmware started causing this.

How is the Surface Pro 4 these days? Are the kinks finally worked out? I'm on the verge of getting one these days (there's a deal for the i5 + Type Cover for 1.003€ going on right now), but I somehow can't help but feel this one is still a "skip" version, with all the Skylake and firmware issues.

What also bothers me a little is that I know MS is going to update the pen and digitizer to keep up with Apple. It shouldn't bother me, because I'm not a pro artist, but the uncertainty about the next hardware version (early 2017 or still late 2016?) is killing me a little. And less lag with the pen is always preferred.

A recent piece of artwork on my SP4. It's a pleasure to draw on. :)

I've been incredibly happy with my Surface Pro 4, but I've come to accept that it has issues.

Sometimes it just doesn't like to wake up (perhaps because I have it set to Hibernate to avoid battery drain), and I'll have to hold down the power for 10+ seconds to force it to turn on.

That said, I've been incredibly happy with my purchase. It's very compact and has now become the only computer I use for lots of artwork, coding, 3D modelling and some light gaming. I'm using the 4GB/128GB version.

Fantastic drawing.

You and Shog owe me 1.013€/$1151. You can PM him about splitting the bill, if you like.
I'm mildly excited!

thanks! I hope you like it! I was fully prepared to hate mine, so when I first bought it I was in full 'evaluation mode' and and was prepared to return it if a) I didn't find it comfortable to work on, b) the 4GB RAM were too little for me to work with c) I just didn't like it.

I definitely recommend a 128gb micro SD card, btw :)
