Microsoft Surface Tablet announced

I don't really understand the point of the RT model. Why even bother with it? The Pro version is the real hotness.

Unless the RT model is REALLY cheap.
To compete with others ARM talent, not everyone want full fledge PC. My wife just want it for Internet and light Office and email.

The one thing that Apple gets right with (most of) their product announcements is that you can start ordering the item immediately after the announcement. Microsoft shouldn't be announcing this with no price or way to purchase. It makes it seem like the product might not be done yet; it's just a tech demo. At least they're doing hands-on demos.

This may be why they aren't talking about battery life just yet. They haven't finalized one.

I'm saying $599 for the 32 GB RT and $899 for the i5. I can't imagine they'll go any higher than that. If anything, $100 under those prices would make a big impact.

But, again, battery life. The RT needs to last 7 hours or more to keep up with competition. Doubt the i5 can reach that.

I don't get it I guess, they are hoping Office is enough to get people to buy a MS tablet with no existing app support. It also looks big, heavy and expensive. Does anyone give a crap about Office anymore, is it enough of a pull to sell anything? I don't even use it on my laptop, let alone a tablet.

MS is struggling to stay relevant in a Apple/Google world. Who makes the hardware?

No price? GTFO MS!

Surface is interesting and that keyboard cover looks killer, but no date, pricing, or battery life mentions should worry everyone.

Looks dope and I'm impressed but if the basic is Ipad price and pro ultra book price then this thing wont be no rival to the Ipad.

See, if this was Apple they would have announced that you can buy it right now and my credit card would have been charged already. Microsoft fail.

Yeah and honestly they saw how well that worked with the 360 Slim model. Announcing that they were shipping to retail stores that very day, and that you could go order one right now was awesome, and let the hype transition smoothly into a purchase.

honestly though the main reason im so hyped is because of how fucking cool the keyboard cover is. i dont really give a shit about having all that power since i have a desktop for all that.

the keyboard cover is just an incredible idea and i was surprised no one had thought of it yet.

The Surface looks awesome, but no price and release window is disconcerting. I can't wait to read/watch the hands-on impressions.

Intel dropped the Ultrabook pricing to $799 and is currently meeting with the chinese ODMs to reduce the price further (after Apple slashed $100 off the MacBook Air), so $799 has to be the cieling for the Pro SKU.

It will run all the existing windows programs. Thats already a pretty extensive library.

What's the fucking point of announcing a product that won't be released til next year now? After the iPad 3 and Macbook Air refresh all launch and every spends their fucking money on those?

So this thing is out in OCTOBER? 4 months away... I'll have lost interest by then :P If the price was good they would have announced it today - they'll slip it out in a little press release in a few months. Ah well.

I can't believe that they sold me on this. I don't really care about tablets or laptops.. This is just seems too damn convenient though.

I love it. I don't need a laptop and a comicly large phone anymore. I can have both.
A tablet that runs apps and at the same time its a full blown windows 8 capable laptop that can run any game released on PC ever.

This would have been awesome if not only MS announced a price but said it was shipping in one to two weeks. oh well..
