Nope, you guys aren't missing anything. You can only add friends by following them and them have them follow you back. After that you search for friends in the app.

if this is how its gonna be im probably just gonna not use it

im not jumping through hoops for miitomo. it looks fun, but not enough that im gonna adjust my accounts on other services just to add people

On the account I run, I absolutely can't have automated posts from apps showing up without my knowing. Is this something that I can be sure won't happen unless I go out of my way to make a post from Miitomo by choice?

Someone told me their Mii showed up for them. Mine didn't and I linked my NNID which I thought was weird and the QR 3DS code felt like the only alternative.

I don't think Miitomo will post something automatically unless you okay it.

before you give permission twitter will show you what privileges the app is being given
so youll know if miitomo has the ability to post before you authorize

Miitomo Drop is sommmme bullshit. If my Mii dropped right when I hit the button I'd be able to get the top center item, but of course there's some delay so I always hit the top bumper and go off to the side. Evil.

No automated posts. You have to go a little out of your way to post directly to Twitter, actually.
