Millennials are killing chains like Buffalo Wild Wings and Applebee's

Casual dining is in danger — and millennials are to blame.

Brands such as TGI Fridays, Ruby Tuesday, and Applebee's have faced sales slumps and dozens of restaurant closures, as casual dining chains have struggled to attract customers and grow sales.

"Casual-dining restaurants face a uniquely challenging market today," Buffalo Wild Wings CEO Sally Smith recently wrote in a letter to shareholders.

According to Smith, these sit-down restaurants' struggles can blamed on the most-frequently besmirched generation: millennials.

"Millennial consumers are more attracted than their elders to cooking at home, ordering delivery from restaurants and eating quickly, in fast-casual or quick-serve restaurants," Smith wrote.

Grocery chains are increasingly competing with restaurants, thanks to lower prices and perks such as pick-up and delivery, new technology, and trendy features like wine bars and to-go meals. Plus, meal delivery kits such as Blue Apron are focused on getting millennials on a subscription plan that will convince them to stay in and cook a certain number of days a week.

Convenience is also a factor, both when it comes to delivery and speed of service. And casual dining chains are still playing catch-up with regards to delivery.

The growth of fast-casual chains such as Chipotle and Panera have been especially harmful. These chains manage to bring both convenience and lower prices to millennial customers, who are less enthused about spending more money just for the "experience" of sitting in a booth at a casual dining joint.

I don't eat at those places because they're shit

If I wanted some microwaved garbage, I'd go buy a TV dinner at a grocery

I love Buffalo Wild Wings ;;

I'd love it even more if I didn't get "Are you sure you want that?" every time I order Blazin' sauce.

Bane? Get them on board, I'll call it in.
Last time I had BWW and Applebee's, they were shit. Pretty sure that has something to do with it.

Wing Stop is better for my wing needs.

I guess it makes sense, those places are more for the family experience they should cater more to older patrons like Denny's does.

As an Millennial, I actually like sit down places.

Applebee's - It's Definitely The Millenials Fault We Serve Garbage Food.

Thing is I actually like stopping at Denny's from time to time because I work late hours and they're open 24 hours a day, and sometimes I want something slightly better than garbage fast food at night. Turns out if you have some sort of differentiator for your business people might actually go there over the competition.

If your food is good, people will come. Stop trying to blame people, hell a generation at that, at your shitty food and marketing.

This is one instance many people can say isn't millennials but businesses not catering for a changing market. Also eating out is expensive and millennials don't have as much money.

One day I realized that sadness is just another word for not enough coffee.
Those millennials must be STOPPED at all costs.

Times change if these companies can't keep up with change they will fail like lot of companies like sears, Kmart, radio shack, circuit City etc. Maybe they should start delivering.

If this means the demand for local restaurants rises, I'm OK with this, as long as the chains don't go outside of business. Buffalo Wild Wings I really like but their food isn't as good as the local burger places in Tucson.

get some go again
maybe make better food rather than blame those horrible millennials. i've eaten at some of those restaurants and it was nothing special.

Surprised they can still be salty even after they dump tons of it on their food. Garbage shit and I'm an X man.

Yes, sure, Millennials just love to cook at home or eat at cheaper places. It certainly has nothing to do that they don´t have any money. I´m sure they´d continue that if all of them became rich over night. Just like they love to live in 1 bedroom apartments and with roommates. They obviously wouldn´t want a home. Who wants that shit.

I saw an example of Applebee's food today......

You are better off hitting up publex and getting a sandwhich

make sure the pudding isn't too soggy but that just ruins everything
Maybe they don't want to waste their shrinking wages on overpriced, garbage food.

Both of them suck. In general I avoid the chains. Don't see the point, if I want Mexican food I'll go to an authentic Mexican restaurant. Likewise with Chinese or BBQ, instead of whatever shit take Applebees is going to serve up.

Now what's the next step in your master plan?
Hey go figure that a generation that has issues paying off their student loans is not going to be eating out much.

Buffalo Wild Wings is alright I guess but most of the casual dining like Applebees, Red Robin, Chilis etc are pretty bad now. I just go to local places which tend to be better.

I like how they spin grocery shopping and cooking for themselves as negatives. Must be pretty detrimental being self sufficient.

Stop serving re-heated frozen food at 10 dollars a plate and maybe people will start going to your restaurant.

Why go to a chain when there's likely some other place around that is either cheaper, or better, or both? It's not like decent diners are a rarity, let alone "normal" restaurants.
