Mist Walker's Sakaguchi in talks with MS and Nintendo

Apparently in interview for this week's Famitsu, FF creator said his Mist Walker company is already working on 3 games and they're in talks with MS and Nintendo (Xenon/Revolution releases?). Also Uematsu will probably work on music for the games. Concrete announcements about all to be sometime next year.

We've started working on two full-scale projects, and they're both RPGs....Sakaguchi did not reveal what platforms Mist Walker's new projects would be released for...

What other genres did he work with at Square?

Gamers Republic is working closely with Sony for the game Genji.
If it's true that Mistwalker is in talks with MS and Nintendo, either one can buy them.
esp. Nintendo after losing Rare, Factor 5 and SK. Wether they are profitable or not, it's all about more & exclusive games.

It's interesting to see that this is probably one of the reasons Uematsu quit Square to make his own company too as he'll be working for Sakaguchi's Mistwalker in the future, according to the interview.

Sakaguchi said he wants to make a series with 10 games in it - perhaps a joke because he stopped working on FF at FFIX. He says he's in talks with MS and Nintendo but can't say more than that, presumably because it's very positive in their favour.

mebbe.

Ugh, I hope not. I'd die if someone like Sakaguchi was forced to make games for a Microsoft console.

You mean after Nintendo dumped Rare and SK.

Sakaguchi + Uematsu + Amano with a dash of Nintendo = old school FF sequel in spirit form.

Can't find a better trio than that - maybe Hori + Sugiyama + Toriyama for Dragon Quest..

well it'd be interesting to see what kind of game Sakaguchi can come up with, but he hasn't made a game in more than a decade...

nintendo didnt lose those companies. they sold rare.. and dropped SK (who are still creating Nintendo software)

Factor 5 has only been rumored to be working on games for other consoles.. but so far they are still just rumors.

also.. none of those companies make RPGs.. so i dont know what void mist walker would be filling.

F5 is working on next gen consoles.

yeah. but is it known for sure that they are working on games.. or just technology (like they always have) ??

i dont remember hearing anything concrete. just rumors.

I'm really interested in Sakaguchi's future works but I question their ability to transform all their ideas in real triple-A games..A lot of small developers haven't been able to substain the costs and resources needed to develop in this generation, and they choose to develop for next generation consoles?......mumble mumble....

Couldn't find IGN's article about F5 and PSP, but this site refers to IGN.

even in the article you quoted::

When asked why Factor 5 won't be developing for the Gamecube hardware, Mr. Eggebrecht commented, "It is simply because we have moved into next-generation development."

its all speculation on your part. nowhere did he say that F5 has dropped nintendo.

IGN.com reports as well that Factor 5 is looking more into PSP development, as well as development of titles in other next-generation platforms.

I didn't say anything about F5 dropped Nintendo.
It's not speculation on my part, i just read it.

Gamers Republic is working closely with Sony? Sure they are working on a PS2 game, but where does "closely" come from? Does anyone know how big Gamers Republic is now and what big name talent work for them?

Since Microsoft has the ex-Square manager running the Japanese video game division, that probably helps the chances of Mistwalker working on an Xbox2 game.

they have. I recall them news saying that they're working on Xbox titles - but its all hearsay. All this because RSIII bombed - but that's got less to do with gamecube than another shitty me-too title with bad on-foot action + reviews.

Well.. they're meant to do pilotwings... but really F5 isn't a game developer.. Rogue Squadron are the only games they made (? - because I think that's about it. Some check in?). They mostly do software aps/ development, no?

On MW... I hope they do PS3 / N5 dev. Xbox market/crowd won't buy into Jpn titles + Jpn games won't buy into xenon. I want the games on a console that I will own and happily too.

(disclosure : I am japan whore)

Not really rumors. They've been mentioned on PSP and XNA developer lists.

But you can't lose something you've never had. Yes, F5 was Nintendo exclusive for a while but it was their own choice.

That article is dated June 2004.
In September they announced Genji for PS2.
That does not mean that Game Republic won't work with MS or Nintendo but initial talks are not so relevant.

Game Republic has 3 seperate studio's. All three can't be working on Genji. Anyway it least this shows MS is still trying to get more Japanese support.

"Nintendo after losing Rare, Factor 5 and SK."

well.. what did they lose then??

and actually.. ign reported a rumor from a 'good source'

like i said .. show me some an official announcement, and i will concede.

remember how ign was pretty adamant about the RL special pack for the xbox ?

im not saying it isnt going to happen.. but at this point its just speculation and rumors.

They are losing "support" from software companies they once were close with. Esp Factor5 and SK.

I'm not saying F5 or SK won't make another game for GC or Nintendo in general, but it's obvious they didn't like the sales of their games on the GC. They can blame on themselves for that, but still.

What was it about SK making a game for the cube right now, was it just an rumour or what.
