Western developers having their BS reigned in

The day will come when Nintendo sues itself for patent infringement.

"Nintendo of Japan believes Nintendo of America has over-stepped and has infringed upon Nintendo of Japan's patents. Nintendo of Japan has sued Nintendo of American for a quadrillion dollars. Nintendo's lawyers are currently being treated for hyperventilation and were unavailable for comment."

So, Iwata was the only President/CEO Nintendo's ever had who was a game developer earlier in their career. The Yamauchis were not either, and Nintendo did just fine before Iwata took over in 2002. I'd also point out Nintendo did just fine 2015-2018 under Kimishima (who Iwata groomed for a long time as a successor should he ever die/retire). So, a little bit of history and context is important to know, here. Nintendo being run by a "non-gamedev" is by no means a recent thing.

Also prolly worth it to point out that Iwata was a programmer and not a designer. He wasn't a creative. He helped solve technical issues. There are many higher-ups at Nintendo who were/are actual creatives/ designers. Such as Miyamoto. Who himself has been Senior Managing Director for decades now and also sits on the Board. Plenty of higher-ups there with software design experience who help call the shots.

Yes I know, and Yamauchi did say a a few dumb things in his time. If someone like Yamauchi was in charge again today, the policies would totally be full of scumbaggery.

Patent for Ingame achievements rewarding out of game rewards…I REPEAT, Something Sony,MS,Ubi etc were doing YEARS before Nintendo 🤦‍♂️
But he's not denying what others have done before. His point is that people are jumping the gun and thinking Nintendo's patent has anything to do with any of that instead of covering their own specific implementation of a rewards system. His point is that people here have no idea how patent law works but they still feel qualified to drop passionate opinions in response to ragebait titles without even bothering to read the article let alone the source.

I hope this just breaks the camals back and some bigger studios like Ubisoft gang up together and get everything revoked.
Hell as a bonus, I'd love to see them even get the "Catching" and "Summoning" Patents taken away.
Sadly, most likely not happening anytime soon.

It seems silly but patents are generally incredibly specific. I do think this was has... been done before though, but maybe not at the system evel.

It's basically a lot of GAAS games systems but done across all games that participate.

Like list of things to do.. you do then.. you earn "points", you can spend points on likely cosmetic stuff. I don't think Xbox or Playstation do anything redeemable for their achievements.

It's not patenting any one piece of that, but the entirety of a system like that down to finite technical details.

I'm not disputing this. No need to repeat something that never needed to be said to begin with. It's fucking obvious.

That is not the point.

Hence the irony in you calling someone an idiot.

Nintendo is the new Apple, always patenting stuff they copied from others. It would be nice to see the people who actually invented these different things Nintendo is patented (not only for this case), plus the gazillion other things they copied from other games.

As an example, Irem should sue them for using scroll for the frst Super Mario Bros, because when Miyamoto ported Irem's Kung-Fu Master for the NES took the scrolling camera idea from there to make Super Mario Bros, for which game and series he did copy a lot of things from Namco's Pac-Land. Things openly admitted by Miyamoto himself.

Nintendo's policies continues being full of scumbaggery, see the OP message as reference. Who the fuck they think they are patenting things that have been used by many other people during decades?
