MK8D looks absolutely amazing on OLED TVs

I grabbed an LG B4 Oled TV for christmas and after try more modern games with HDR on my Series X and PS5 to see the tv in action, the most impressive game that i tried is MK8D and i wasn’t expecting that… What kind of sorcery is this? Looks absolutely amazing and a truly showcase for Oleds tvs. Can’t wait to see what Nintendo can achieve if they implement HDR for the Switch 2.

Can you believe MK8 came out in 2014, and it still looks that good? Sure, Deluxe has a higher resolution, but it's the same base assets. Art direction is so critical.

C'mon man, do you have a phone.

90% of phones have OLED, it's like people with OLED TV have seeing the second coming of Jesus.
OLED in HDR on a large screen is probably the best visual quality you can get at home these days. It is impressive.

Not really fair comparing it to OLED phones especially if they are low end ones.

Just try to watch a sony bravia 9 in HDR in full brightness, and wait next year mini LED TVs and microLED TVs.

And what relation have the FPS with the topic?
Stutter does not look good. 😜

I grabbed a 48" B4 on the cheap for desk gaming. One of the reasons was the ratings review. So far, it has been great for gaming but I do notice some stutter(?) in menus now and then. It works well enough that I later grabbed a 55" for the living room when my U8 started having a few flickering issues in dark scenes. The stutter(?) seems to show up more on the Apple TV menu when using the 55". It's fine for me because I use that TV for background noise (85%) of the time. For the price, I am not complaining at all.

It is impressive but I would not go all in. My U8 looked better in some HDR/Dolby Vision content than the B4 I replaced it with. I understand the B4 is not top tier OLED but I am comparing it to an off-brand TV. For my larger TV replacement, I am probably going with a Bravia (7/9) if I do it soon or waiting to see what next year has in store.

30fps on OLED is a mess.

I've kinda got used to it now but at first watching movies and playing games at 30fps was awful. OLED is designed for high refresh rates. 60fps is good but is not considered high refresh rate lol. my OLED is 360Hz. My OLED TV is 120hz. and yes I do play games at 120-360Hz on my OLEDs.
Watching movies at 30fps?

My parents stopped by and my kids were playing MK8 on our LG C9 65”. They were both blown away by how bright and colorful the display was. They ordered the exact same TV for themselves the next day to replace their aging 65” DLP.
I forgot about DLP tvs. It must be a good tv to last this long. They just never took off i guess.

Hyperbole thread n°412. I swear some of you are easily blown away. This is the type of shit that pushed me to buy an Oled TV 4 years ago and it's not as extraordinary as some of make it sound.

They were fairly popular back in the day as an alternative to LCD and plasma. Seems like the general consensus was they were better than LCD especially for gaming, while being a lot less heavy/hot/power hungry than plasma. Of course the tradeoff was that they were bulkier than LCD.

Samsung’s LED DLP kicked ass, way better than any LCD for gaming around that time.

Just in case:
  • TV mode: The Switch's output resolution is up to 1080p via HDMI.
So what you're complimenting is art direction. Not the graphics. 1080P games look like shit on anything now when you have 2K and 4K resolutions. I'm surprised you can't see the aliasing and the blur.

Funny how when i got a ps3 with my first flatscreen 1080p looked fucking insane.
Motorstorm was a generational leap.

Now here we are people stating 1080p looks like shit..

No good sir.
1080p looks like
Shit on 4k screen.
It looks amazing on native 1080p screens

No way that the Switch output resolution is 1080p i thought it was 8K at minimum… But I think i can’t notice that due to me sitting 5 meters away from my 77 inchs TV 🙄

1080P looked insane because HD TV's were a new thing. And 4K screens also output lower resolutions depending on the hardware output. And its because the screen is small on the Switch. How else can you see the little nuances on a small screen?

P0tat0p resolution, and it still looks amazing. Not everybody's eyes water like a nervous chihuahua's do when mommy leaves the room.

Nice sarcasm there. However, don't get your attitude pointing out the obvious?
