The Mets already have a short bench and even a smaller one with the Duda/d'Arnaud injuries in this game which left them with just Conforto and Lagares thus why Gsellman was asked to bat for himself and get the bunt down.
Their vaunted starting pitching has handicapped them in a way given the 90-100 pitch counts which has forced them to go with a 4-man bench and an extra reliever.
