Saw everything but the final round. Should've stayed at work until it was over. Awesome prince won, good to see he still has some pop in that bat

Mariners GM Jack Zduriencik has told teams that Felix Hernandez is not available and he will not listen to offers for him.

Hernandez will be a free agent after the 2014 season, barring an extension.

Ignoring all the butthurt feelings on both sides, I have a question. Does the person picked as a homerun captain have to be a competitor? If it was truly having a game last night and getting in to KC late, and blah blah blah, could Cano have stepped down if he wanted to and let someone else take his place? Should he have done that if he was concerned about the AL winning over the NL? Notwithstanding the fact that he probably didn't figure it would bother him as much as it obviously did.

Trade Deadline hubbub gathered from Twitter:

-- The Pirates, Reds, and Indians have all called the Padres about Carlos Quentin. Pirates are going to hardest for him.

-- The Mets are interested in Rockies' Ramon Hernandez, but will not be willing to give up any prospects for him. Mets are also interested in Royals' Jonathan Broxton.

-- Rangers are considered the favorites for Cole Hamels. However, Hamels has said that even if the Phillies trade him, he's still giving them first crack at him during the offseason, which could put off some interest for him. The Phillies want talent that is close to MLB-ready in return for Hamels. People around Hamels believe he wants a deal similar to Cliff Lee's 5-year, $125 million deal.

-- Orioles and Braves are believed to be the top candidates to land Zack Greinke. Orioles are pursuing him hard right now while the Braves are waiting to see how Ben Sheets progresses. The Braves are willing to trade some of the pieces they were unwilling to trade for Carlos Beltran and Hunter Pence last year. Meanwhile, the Orioles have told the Brewers that Dylan Bundy is untouchable. It's believed Braves' Julio Teheran is still untouchable too.

-- Braves are believed to be the most interested in Twins' Francisco Liriano if Ben Sheets doesn't pan out and the Brewers ask too much for Zack Grienke. It's also been mentioned that the Braves won't go after Greinke unless they think they can sign him to an extension.

I give it high odds I feel sorry for the team that gets him before the year is up, unless they don't give up much. I like quentin, but I was happy to see him get traded from the white sox. He just can't stay healthy (heck he has been on the DL once this year already lol) the odd thing of course is that he seems to always get hurt in a new spot lol.

-- The Mets are interested in Rockies' Ramon Hernandez, but will not be willing to give up any prospects for him. Mets are also interested in Royals' Jonathan Broxton.
They won't get Ramon, but they may have a shot at Broxton. Matt Cerrone put it best:
Matthew Cerrone: You know, I hadn’t thought about that aspect to all of this, which is that these players and coaching staff have been playing terrific baseball. They’ve hustled. They’ve been professional and exciting, and they’re in a pennant race… earlier in this rebuilding phase than most people expected. So, if you’re trying to build a new winning culture, as the Mets are doing, if – as soon as the team shows signs of winning – you turn your back and show no support, what kind of message will that send to everyone involved? In other words, Ownership and management have an opportunity to show their players that they ‘have their backs,’ so to speak, and, according to Heyman, they feel they need to deliver on it.
It's funny... my only concern the first 2 months was to see the kids develop and play hard. Even when the bullpen blew games early I wasn't even mad, you can go back and see my reactions. It wasn't really until that series in Washington I started thinking "Hey, this team may have a serious shot" and wanted the Mets to get bullpen help. My whole goal went from "Please don't finish 15-20 under .500" to now "Get bullpen help so they can fix the pen".

Baseball is so funny sometimes.

Yeah go fuck that chicken, Cole.

what sort of move would it take to get him? (quetin that is)

to get him from the white sox it cost a decent looking prospect (who had a good year last year and a good year so far this year) and the Pre-2011: Rated #58 Prospect who had a bad year last year (and is having an ok year this year)

I imagine the requirement would be about the same, he is closer to free agency but teams are also willing to pay a little more at the trade deadline so it should be about a wash.

Padres won't have much leverage. Quentin's a free agent after this season. And it's not like Quentin's had an All-Star season. He was on the DL for the first two months. Probably a mid-level prospect and a low-level prospect is all the Padres could get back. Also, the new collective bargaining agreement added rules saying a team that acquires a player mid-season will not be eligible for compensation draft picks if the player signs somewhere else after the season. This also lessens the ability for the Padres to ask for anything significant back.

Quentin's splits are what you'd expect: horrible at Petco, awesome everywhere else.

14 home games: .196/.288/.348, 2 home runs, 4 RBIs
18 away games: .318/.447/.636, 5 home runs, 13 RBIs

I forgot about the new bargaining agreement... yeah it shouldn't take a ton to land quentin.

Hopefully Sheets pans out, but as a Braves fan - I'd certainly look forward to them making a move for Greinke. I believe he and his wife are from Orlando too. Perhaps that plays a role into him signing an extension (being relatively close to home).

Sounds about right.

At this point, I see another #1 draft pick in their future. It's going to be a loooooong second half.

I'm expecting Wandy and or Myers to be dealt somewhere.

Selig announced during his yearly Town Hall chat with fans that this year's 2-3 format for the LDS involving the Wild Card is temporary and will go back to the 2-2-1 format in 2013. Selig said the schedules had been made and the only way to accomodate the second Wild Card this year was to make it a 2-3 format with the Wild Card team hosting the first two games.

Cano wanted Hamilton, Ortiz, Pujols in the HRD, but they were smart to turn it down, Cano should not even be doing it anymore if Yankees are in contention. Really though the KC guy should have been put in somehow.

It's going to be awesome when Felix walks away for nothing.

He's gonna re-sign for peanuts.

“Who’s going to give me what I’d need to get for him? You’re always going to be looking for him if you don’t have him,‘’ Zduriencik said.’

Sounds about right. Can't blame him for not trading Felix for less than he is worth.

New York Mets right-hander Dillon Gee has been hospitalized in New York, multiple members of the organization confirmed.

Manager Terry Collins, reached in Kansas City, said Gee experienced numbness in his fingers and was due to undergo an angiogram.

"They aren't sure what it is yet," Collins said.

A teammate said the issue was believed to be blood-related in Gee's shoulder. Another member of the organization said Gee was admitted Monday and underwent an MRI.

Attempts to reach GM Sandy Alderson and spokesman Jay Horowitz were unsuccessful.

A woman who answered the phone at Gee's parents' home in Texas said father, Kevin Gee, was en route to New York.

A call to agent Bryan Cahill was not immediately returned.

Gee, 26, is scheduled to pitch the Mets' second-half opener in Atlanta on Friday.

Did you know that the Rockies went 2-13 in interleague this year. Hoooooolyyyyy shiiiiiii

And before this year they had the best interleague record over the past 6 years. They still held that distinction even after starting 0-6 this year. Not sure where they rank now.
