Where is Pudge Rodriguez? Dead?

The Show has his catching ability and arm strength still all high as shit - why isn't he the Tigers backup instead of Gerald I-am-the-epitome-of-below-average Laird?

3-4, RBI, 2B, HR in today's game

I strongly dislike G-money, but Pudge is done. Wouldn't get anything out of him, I imagine. Don't let the Show's stats dictate real life

I bet Pujols wishes he stayed in STL

Well of course not, but figured if they've got his arm still at 99, it's gotta still be an 84 or something IRL, right?

lol

If Laird > Pudge, though, I'll take your word for it. Certainly isn't surprising or anything. Just kinda like the idea of big name guys in backup roles on loaded teams. But if he's done, he's done.

Lol Bobby V.

“I don’t think he’s as physically or emotionally into the game as he has been in the past for some reason. But [on Saturday] it seemed, you know, he’s seeing the ball well, got those two walks, got his on-base percentage up higher than his batting average, which is always a good thing, and he’ll move on from there.”

Throwing Youk under the bus like that. Sad.

Pedroia responding to Bobby V

Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia backed his fellow infielder in comments to reporters.

"I really don't know what Bobby is trying to do," Pedroia said Monday. "That's not the way we go about our stuff around here. He'll figure that out. The whole team is behind Youk. We have each other's backs here."

Pedroia was then asked whether he thought Valentine perhaps was trying to light a fire under Youkilis, who is hitting .200 on the young season.

"Maybe that works in Japan," Pedroia said, referring to Valentine's successful stints as a manager in Japan.

Welp, he turned Pedroia against him. Hooray Bobby V!

Surely this will continue.

lol at the Red Sox revolt. I guess the players just aren't used to a manager who isn't walking around in a pain killer induced waking coma all day long.

I only saw him pitch for a bit and I guess he's been hit hard a few times so far but Takahashi for the Angels looks like he has filthy stuff. That extra leg kick must be difficult to get used to as a hitter.

"Now Castro, there was a guy who had passion for the game."

kinda suprised heyward isn't on that list, he flies around the bases when he hits one.

edit: ah, heyward's HR against the astros was 19.52 seconds.

Link blocked at work. Wonder how long his one against the Brewers was because he was around those bases quick.

Yikes, Bobby V has got a long leash on Bard. He clearly looked toast and he just leaves him out there to throw a four-pitch walk to walk in a run.

It was only a matter of time before John Smoltz took his rightful place in the Braves Hall of Fame, and his No. 29 on the left field façade at Turner Field, alongside those of Greg Maddux and Tom Glavine. That time will be June 8th.

The club announced Monday that Smoltz’s would become only the ninth Braves jersey number retired, and it will go up in a ceremony before the Braves play the Toronto Blue Jays in a series opener on Friday, June 8th. Smoltz will also be honored at a Hall of Fame luncheon that afternoon.

Smoltz will join his rotation mates and golf buddies, who had their jerseys retired in 2009 (Maddux’s No. 31) and 2010 (Glavine’s No. 47).

The other numbers retired by the Braves are manager Bobby Cox (6), Dale Murphy (3), Phil Niekro (35), Hank Aaron (44), Eddie Mathews (41), and Warren Spahn (21). Jackie Robinson’s No. 42 is retired throughout major league baseball.

Smoltz was an eight-time All-Star in 20 seasons with the Braves after arriving in a trade from Detroit for Doyle Alexander in August of 1987. He won the Cy Young in 1996 and became the only major league pitcher to win at least 200 games and save 150. While leading the Braves on an unprecedented 14-year postseason run from 1991 to 2005, Smoltz won 15 postseason games, the second-most in history, and struck out a record 199.

If Maddux was the pitching guru, and Glavine the stoic presence, Smoltz was the heart of the rotation, who wore his emotions on his sleeve throughout his career as a starter, a closer and a starter again.

This jersey ceremony and Hall-of-Fame induction gives Smoltz a chance for some proper due from Braves fans after his awkward departure following an injury-riddled 2008 season. Smoltz didn’t have an official retirement announcement or a farewell tour of the league, after finishing his career with the Red Sox and Cardinals in 2009.

“John has contributed so much to Atlanta Braves history,” Braves president John Schuerholz said in a statement. “Inducting him into our Hall of Fame and making sure no one else will ever wear his number 29 are the most meaningful and significant ways we can honor John.”

Smoltz, now a broadcaster with MLB Network and TBS, will be inducted into the Braves Hall of Fame at a luncheon June 8 at the Omni Hotel, which is adjacent to the CNN Center in downtown Atlanta. For information, call 404-614-2310.

Not entirely terrible for Bard. Valentine is a moron for letting him stay in that long. He hasn't thrown this much pitches in 5 year.

Braves fans, who's your favorite terrible relieve of the past 7 or so years?

Dan Kolb, Chris Reitsma, Jorge Sosa, Tyler Yates, Jesse Chavez, Manny Acosta, Blaine Boyer, or the Proctologist? Durbin hasn't pitched the minimum 30 innings to qualify.

Weird, I was talking with my friend just yesterday at the Braves/Brewers game about all-time terrible Braves relievers that we couldn't stand.

First two guys to come to mind were Reitsma and Kolb.
