Jonathan Pettibone had another solid start last night. If he can keep this up all year I am sure he will be in the running for RotY. Sadly I think teams will eventually figure him out. He really pitches to contact and that is tough to make a living out of. It is crazy though the only one of his starts that the Phils have lost is when he gave up 3 runs to SF. Man if only Adams hadnt blown that game against the DBacks they would be .500 already.

Watching Arencibia catch every day, it's so apparent he doesn't know how to frame pitches and it is part of the trouble the Jays staff has been having. He definitely stabs and picks at the ball as it comes in, rather than letting it come to him and getting some of those borderline calls. His offense is so outstanding, he's going to stay in there, but I hope his technique does improve as the season goes on.
Varitek is maybe one of the worst ever. Guy was just a trash receiver.

That's why we gave real catchers police escorts to the stadium.
He was notorious for doing that though. Varitek after injuries/age mounted really didn't excel at almost anything at the catching position. We had the silly argument, "...but he catches a good game!", which ultimately didn't make a lick of sense with pitcher ERAs in the 4+ range. Ultimately he was a very likable player at a weak position.

This is true.
The other thing that pissed me off was from the 2011 season, was Saltalamacchia doing his shitty Tony Pena stance. Not only does the catcher look too relaxed for framing pitches correctly, he basically concedes most pop-outs behind the backstop.
