MLB Regular Season 2013 |OT2| - Revenge of the Umpires

Jon Niese will start on Sunday in Arizona, Terry Collins said on WFAN on Wednesday afternoon.

Niese, who threw 80 pitches in a rehab start for Binghamton on Tuesday night, has been on the disabled list with a slightly torn rotator cuff since late June.

The Mets said they will go back to a six-man rotation when Niese rejoins the rotation.

Dillon Gee will pitch on Thursday for the Mets, with Jeremy Hefner and Zack Wheeler taking the first two games in Arizona before Niese’s start.

I'd rather Gee and Hefner be split up, but eh.not bad.

Hearing same as @jsalisbury: Utley, #Phillies are close. Two-yr deal in high $20M range with multiple vesting options. About to post story.

Chase Utley deal done. 2 years. I wonder how hard the vesting options are to reach.

I'm pretty happy with the term.

The Philadelphia Phillies declined to trade second baseman Chase Utley in July, preferring to negotiate an extension with him and make him, in the words of general manager Ruben Amaro Jr., a “Phillie for life.”

Mission nearly accomplished.

The Phillies are close to signing Utley to a two-year extension with multiple vesting options, according to major-league sources. The total guaranteed money in the deal will be in the “high 20s,” one source said — between $25 million and $30 million.

Utley, who will turn 35 on Dec. 17, is in the final year of a seven-year, $85 million contract. His extension would be for 2014 and '15 — and possibly beyond if he stays healthy, sources said.

Such a deal seemed difficult to imagine before the start of this season. Utley, due to a variety of knee problems and right thumb surgery in 2010, averaged only 100 games the previous three years.

Good!

I don't know why we didn't trade him. He's hot garbage. Hasn't had a hit since the All-star break it feels like.

Also responsible for our 1st game loss against the Marlins.

Basically, be careful what you wish for.
Hard to be worse than Kozma with the bat but it looks like Cabrera has been lousy in the field too.
