Employees also steal as "payback" for shitty pay or policies.still doesn't stop employee theft. people mainly steal because they think they won't get caught and see the person who was caught as a failure.

Only if the employee worked the registers. Most employees work the floor in one of several departments. "The Walk of Shame" is when a Manager will allow the employee to come in, clock in, and start working the floor before having the employee detained/cuffed and brought to the office.
The better way to do it would be a wait for the employee to show up for their shift and ask to speak to them before they clock in.
"The walk of shame is a Target policy to purposely cause shame, embarrassment and emotional distress to any Target employee who is suspected of stealing from Target,'' the suit states. "The policy consists of employees being arrested and paraded in handcuffs through the Target store in full view of co-workers and customers.''
Holy shit!
I am so glad Target is getting out of Canada.
Who in their right mind even suggested this and what room full of people actually agreed?
they think it will deter other potential thieves.Fair enough, but it appears they never filed charges, so why put the kid through that humiliation? If they weren't going to file charges they could've discreetly fired him like most companies do.

it won't.

....to promote theft?
According to the complaint, police and store security met Graham Gentles immediately as he arrived for work. At the direction of two members of the store management, he was handcuffed and led before other store employees to an office, the suit states...He was questioned in the office, then later taken to the police station, the suit states.
Geez, we don't like to make a scene at Walmart. Some people actually might feel it as a badge of honor to be paraded around, or maybe they'll sue better keep it safe and keep it quiet. Employee theft is hush hush, don't talk or even think about it. The offending associate is quietly pulled into the office and terminated/arrested.
It sounds to me like he was simply escorted in handcuffs to a back office and then escorted back out again. The complaint is clearly characterizing the event in the most negative terms possible, to support the claim for intentional infliction of emotional distress, but I think they'll have a hard time proving their case, if Target just walked him to an office and then out again.
wait... so are Target's employee areas at the front while Walmart's are at the back? that could be the difference in apparent parading if the front entrance by all he cashiers is legitimately a shorter route than the rear exit... either way, they have to know where their employees live right!?
