Monster Hunter 3 Tri Official Site Updated

Alright, funny story, I'm in Minneapolis with some friends of the family, so I wend down to the Mall of America since it's the biggest attraction out here anyway to pick up a couple of copies of the demo (one for me and one for the family I'm staying with). So I walk into the first store and ask for the demo and they hand it to me no questions. A nice conversation ensues and I leave to wander around a bit more. I get to the second gamestop and they tell me I have to preorder it. I nearly burst out laughing but instead chuckle a bit and give a blunt "No". I mention the blog, ask to speak to the district manager about it, and they relent. I said it's not like I'm buying the game here anyway, I need to head back to the St. Cloud gamestop for that. I was kind of annoyed that they can't transfer a preorder to a different location though, even if you can give them the store. I wanted to preorder Fragile...

Anyway, I got a bit of time in on the game and all I can say is that those time limits are a PAIN. I can beat the monsters, I just need more time for it. Playing the gunner is no walk in the park...

Yeah, the 20 minute time limits are pretty bad. In the full game, most quests should have 50 minutes.

The time given is more than enough trust me. As for beginners, try not to use gunners.

Thanks Ten, kinda got the hang of switch axes now. Never really learned this from MH2, but is there any reason to specialize in more than one weapon type besides preference? As far as bladed weapons go.

Yes there are. Specific monsters have their weakness against specific weapons and different parts of the monster react differently to different weapons. Eg. Hammer works best on head etc

The gamestop I went to had a clerk that had zero idea what I was talking about when I mentioned a Monster Hunter 3 Demo for Wii. So...he went to fetch his boss and ask him about it. His boss came out and, well.... he was as ignorant on the subject as the clerk. Basically said there was no such thing.

Figures. I'll try again tomorrow.

considering I played only with the gunner set-up, most of my time was spent jockeying for position. That's not a bad thing persay, but I'll probably be most effective on a team. And don't you tell me what to avoid. If a game isn't balanced for all classes to be effective from the start, then the dev team didn't do its job. I like the gunner set up, and I had alot of fun with it, even if I wasn't as effective as I would have liked, so I'm sticking with it.

Jeez Louis, no need to get into a tizzy. He probably just meant it's a difficult class to get the hang of, so it wouldn't be well-suited for someone new to the game.

Fair enough, I am sorry if I insulted you in some way but I don't mean it. However I did say 'try' so its up to you to pick what you wanna use really.

For gunnery, they are unable to deal damage as fast as compared to the other weapons, however they are very effective in team play. Sort of like the playmaker in the team.

I don't I've really ever gotten complete verification, but how exactly does playing online in this work?

Do you go into a large hub area ala PSO then going into mission instances?

Are there prenumbered gathering halls?

Thanks

Finally a brilliantly controlled Monster Hunter with Online! CC1 playstyle is what I've wanted from MH ever since I started playing it on PSP. Delicious monster flesh. Not being able to guard with the Switch Axe made me ditch it pretty quickly.

Guardin' is fer sissies.

Actually it took me like weeks of play to stop acting like a baby and learn to use a Great Sword properly back when moving from MH PS2 to MHF2.

I was too adjusted to lance and would try to guard so much, it completely soured me on the weapon at first.

It was really clunky for me, I was afraid to get hit and guarded too much, I didn't like all of the focus on the unsheathe bonus, etc. You also kind of get a high when really tearing things up with a G.Sword and fail to notice taking huge cleaves of damage due to being in a stagger proof combo :lol That's happened to all of my friends I've played with at least once.

Tigrex is what pushed me into learning that though. I think that was my favorite weapon learning experience in MH was Tigrex with a Great Sword. Going from taking a huge ass whooping to absolutely obliterating that spastic asshole is a great feeling.

Man, I saw a Monster Hunter Tri demo at Gamestop last night (they actually had a small holder for them on the counter), and I didn't ask for one cause I thought you had to pre-order. I know what I'm trying to do during lunch :-D

Its just a harder class to begin with dude. Thats why noobs pick long swords to start with, they're easy to use and be good with. I've played the game for like 400 hours on psp and I still don't have a good handle on the range weapon classes. I can use them if needed but I'd rather use Ls or Hammers. Its not the devs didn't do their jobs excuse.

If it's like the original PS2 edition, then you join a world, then pick an individual game room from that world, which you can put up with passwords and whatever like any other game. It's pretty basic.

I havent tried or seen 3 online at all but I hope it's more like MH PS2 where your friends can wander around the town and less like MH PSP where you're restricted to the guild hall only.

Ah, they're not that hard, just got their own specific mechanics for damage calculations and whatnot, that's what threw me off most back when starting. It's great to have people opting for range, so I really don't agree with suggesting against it. Playing Freedom Unite if we didn't have our gunner certain portions of the game would've been so ridiculously harder. Like playing 2-op for Lao and not being able to nuke up his back.

Going solo, use a lighter weight gun, going multi use a heavier. I'm not sure how it is in Tri compared to Unite on this specific part but in Freedom Unite you NEVER put any part on a Heavy Bowgun but a shield. You need that shield.

Its mainly lack of practice. I've used it for a few mobs here and there solo, and we tried taking down a Fatalis with 3 of us, it takes some practice...just the whole concept of using them is kind of new...just what type of arrows or bolts to use, how to power them, and when you're fighting a tigrex or rathalos, compared to using a LS, the battle is completely different.

Managed to snag the demo yesterday, played it over last night/this morning. LOVE the Switch Axe. MBG is neat too I guess. Elder Jaggi isn't that bad but the HELL with Kuropecco. I finally beat him with LITERALLY less than 10 seconds left on the clock. His attacks aren't that bad but man does he ever take a lot of hits.

Overall, love it. Been playing some MHFU again in preparation for April 20th. 187 hours in and I still love MH. No game has ever been able to do that. I love you, Capcom.

Awesome. I was wondering if there would be time limits in the full game.
You''d be surprised though. Sometimes you'll do a quest, die 2 times and actually run out of time....if you're doing it solo that is. If its MP, then you guys will fuck shit up. Playing online is completely different than solo, you can actually relax when you got 4 guys. I used to play the game solo for the first 100 hours, then my friends got it, we played, got all this sick ass equipment then whenever I play solo, I die asap. I was fighting a Chameleos the other day, he fucked me up.

The first month or so of this game online is gonna be interesting though. So many people are gonna be noob...just not with the actual combat, which is ok but with prep. Got 10 mega pots? check. 10 potions? check. 10 honeys?m check. cool drinks, hot drinks, flash bombs, bugs, bomb material, whetstone, book of combos, antidotes, etc....so many people are gonna be unprepared aka going to a cold level O NO I HAVE NO HOT DRINKS. :|

Yeah there's gonna be a HUGE gulf between MH vets and MH newbies online. Personally I'm looking forward to it. Should be quite entertaining. :lol

Well speaking for the "noobs" here all i can say is that it would be great if some of the vets put together a list of things beginners should be aware of. I can tell you in the demo i was very confused for that first time limit but by the second one i was getting the hang of it. But it would be VERY awesome if a pro could help out the rookies so i can actually be an effective member of the team.

In the beginning it's gonna be awesome, just seeing how it all plays out but If I'm playing with randoms a month later and they fuck up, I could see myself raging. WTF MAN. WHY DONT YOU HAVE POTIONS WITH U. Or WTF when he turns his head like that you gotta run as fast as you can away you idiot. Caaant wait.

I've looked for noob guides online but everything I've found so far assumes you are already familiar with the game's concepts. A "You should know this by now" noob guide would be great...

I'm sure we can assemble a list of tips but it should probably be in the OP for the official thread.

Yeah, Kuropecco has a healing move, which is very, very annoying.

Anyway, got my hands on the NA demo. Switch Axes have more of a learning curve to them then I thought. Also trying to figure out how exactly the new LS spirit guage works. It doesn't seem to deplete when I use a spirit combo, but I'm guessing that's a glitch with Dolphin. I'll try it on my actual Wii later.

Best tip you can get. Play the game. Invest the time.

You can get tips but none of it really sticks until you make the discovery yourself.

Play, play, play and play. Expect to get frustrated. Expect to get fucked by velociprey when you're trying to battle a rathalos. Expect to get stung and paralyzed by an insect only to have a plesioth hip check you.

You're going to get fucked...often.

Then something will click. You'll figure it out and what was once hard is now easy.

very few games provide the same experience that Monster Hunter provides.

You'd be surprised.

I usually have less than one page (out of three) of inventory space left after all my "must have" items. Potions, Mega Potions, Armortalon, Powertalon, Bombs, Paintballs, Meat, Trap Tools, Genprey Fangs, Shock Trap, etc.

Nope. Does it on an actual Wii too. Can't figure it out for the life of me. Kinda makes the game a bit too easy for LS users for the Spirit Gauge to not deplete...unless I'm totally missing something here.

it's a pretty common loadout for a typical hunt.

Speaking of which, I'd send a love letter to Capcom if they let you save your item loadouts.

You could have a "cold zone" item save, "hot zone", a subdue loadout with shock traps and sleep bombs.

It would save tonnes of time rather than micro-managing your items each time before going on a hunt.

Yea...I was fortunate enough to have a friend who had played it since the ps2 days he showed me the ropes. That first battle was a wake up call, I used to find that shit so annoying, the 10 minutes of prep before a battle but it is necessary. Restock items, eat, rub piggy...items alone has 2 pages full for each battle...then depending on what we are fighting, check gamefaqs, look at monsters elemental weakness, change weapon accordingly, change armor set if needed. I love this game <3

Seriously you ditch Slash Axe? You are missing out on one of the best MH weapon thou. Anw do give it a try again, its more of a side stepping weapon plus you don't need to guard as you will have super armor for sword mode.

Sammy Samusu said:
Tenbatsu could help us, I have a few questions too. During online play is it possible to acess the chest, forge weapons/armors and buy itens?
Yes, you are able to do all of the above online. However I will recommend making weapons/armors offline as if you make a mistake, you can still reset the game. Everything is autosave in online.

You don't need a noob guide, its in the final build of the game all nicely laid out for you.

Ok I will explain how the gauge in Long Sword works. Basically there are 3 levels for the gauge. You start by getting as much hit as possible to accumulate the gauge to max. Once its max it wont deplete and you are able to execute the final slash. Each hit of the final slash will turns the gauge to another color, white -> yellow -> red.

White - 1.05 X Atk Power
Yellow - 1.1 X Atk Power
Red - 1.3 X Atk Power

After a certain period of time, the color will revert back to normal and the gauge will deplete and you got to repeat the whole process again.

Cant explain why its so satisfying to damage a vital monster part. Think I did critical damage to the Pecco's throat sac. Some green fluid sprayed for a little, and it dropped a special feather.

I'm so tempted to check out vids for this game. I've gone this long without doing it. I just have no idea what new monsters they have or what the town even looks like.

I think we're going to need a separate online threads for newbies like me. I don't want to embarrass myself too bad in front of the pro's!

I have almost no idea what I'm talking about here, but according to the instructions that came with the demo, once the Spirit Gauge is filled it stays full for a limited amount of time.

First time ever playing the game, I tried the Elder Jaggi with the Long Sword and beat it on the second attempt. Then I tried the Medium Bowgun out on the Kuropecco and while I hung in there for the duration, the time limit expired. I thought I was doing relatively OK though until it summoned an Elder Jaggi for assistance. :/

While I'm not 100% sold and it's definitely an "acquired taste" kind of game, I'm still interested. One weird thing--I'm playing on a decent-sized SDTV and the HUD and text was actually kind of hard to read! I mean, I guess it's sort of impressive that a Wii game almost requires 480p but it was a little annoying.
