Monster Hunter 3 Tri Official Site Updated

For those new to the series, I recommend playing offline mode first. What's more, online equipments are much stronger than offline ones so it will greatly affect the difficulty balance for offline mode.

I finally got around to putting more time into the demo after playing it a little bit when it was first available. The very first time I played I used the Great Sword and got thrashed by the Jaggi. I looked at the poster-guide that came with the demo and I understood the controls, but controlling the camera with the D-pad was really difficult. Now, a month later and with more time, I think things have finally clicked with me and I beat the Jaggi with the Great Sword and Hammer.

Between those two, I prefer the Hammer since it has a moving charge with a lot of attack options. The range is short but it feels right. For the Quropeco, I tried the Long Sword, which I also really enjoyed using, but I guess it doesn't do a ton of damage since I've always run out of time. It's pretty awesome in a tense way when it summons the Rathian, which I try to avoid and focus on the Quropeco.

What I like about the gameplay is that you have to consider how many moves in a combo to use so you can dodge before getting hit, and you definitely have to pay attention to their attack patterns.

Graphically, I'm really impressed with the animations, both on the monsters and the hunter. Whenever I'm hit with a major attack I feel the impact and it makes me want to be more careful about how I attack again, very similar to Lost Planet.

I don't know if I'll be able to get this day 1, but I definitely want to get it at some point, and I'll play with the rest of the weapons over the weekend.

What he said.

If you're not learning how to actually fight the monsters and instead, relying on sloppier technique but great gear, it will show when you're playing online and up against a monster that's challenging.

Different strokes for different folks. People can learn good technique by joining people who are good or by playing solo and learning from trial and error.

The game lets a bunch of people with no chance of beating a monster individually join and (barring a very likely 3 K.O.s), take down that monster as a group. Granted, this is almost always a better experience when it's with friends and when it's not a rush to hunter rank up the one or two newbs as fast as possible.

its a shame the demo only has the fields environment. The temple swamp area that you get to early on is a lot more lush and beautiful.

I was at Gamestop today and can confirm that preorders for the bundle are sold out. They offered to let me just preorder a copy of the game by itself and then see if I could get a bundle anyway, but I decided not to risk it.

Arutha had a brilliant idea that fits perfectly into Monster Hunter, an Easter Egg hunt! Nothing like tracking down multi-colored eggs while a Rathalos breathes down your neck.

Leonos has a quest tracking down an elusive creature...

"Barney once our beloved freaky purple dinosaur is invading monster hunter. Because we are to old to watch the show he has decided to get ripped and try to defeat us. Right now Ironbeard is to busy trying to get his weapons back so it is now our job to take him down.

Please see the above picture. Note: He is the purple one."

Oh? I thought Capcom was done with egg gathering quests (There weren't any in Freedom 2 or Unite). Do Elaborate.
Thanks to the protection stones, you can mix an armor set with the ability to carry egg faster easily. The monsters are not so 'cheap' as before so carrying egg is a breeze. Not to mention the absence of wild boars.

Fair enough. Definitely sounds better then the MH1 egg quests.

No wild boars in MH3? Good. I can't count how many times I've been trampled by them in MHFU cuz I wasn't paying enough attention...

Also, we should be getting pretty close to an Official Thread by now, shouldn't we?

You think they were bad in Freedom Unite, wait until you try the original :lol.

I have a request for Luigiv. Could you make the official thread as spoiler-free as possible? I've noticed the closer we get to the release, the more risky posts there are in this thread. I know it's kind of impossible to make it completely spoiler free, but it would be nice if I didn't know what monsters I would unlock in what order and if possible, hiding the most epic ones. I see the monsters in Monster Hunter as the colossi in Shadow of the Colossus. Knowing what's coming next takes away 50% of the excitement.

Yeah sure thing, I'm only including Great Jaggi, Quropecco and Lagiacrus in the OP, since everyone should already be familiar with them. I'm not sure If I'll even bother mention environments at all, what do you guys think?

Does Tri still split into normal, +rank and G-rank quests? If so, I don't mind seeing monsters and areas that will appear in normal rank. Maybe +rank too, just avoiding showing G-rank exclusive monsters and areas. That seems like the safest choice to me (the thread will have full on discussions later anyway).

& Thanks by the way!

There is no G-rank. Only games with G in the title get G-rank quests (well except for MHP, but that's more or less a straight port of MHG anyway).

far lighter?

WTF!?
Far lighter then FU is what I think the reviewer meant. Tri is about on par with the very first MH in terms of content, but lighter then any of the other sequels.

Edit: Oops double post, I meant to copy and paste into the previous post :P.

whoa really?

Shit I may be able to actually "finish" it then!
I mean, I put 112hours in FU and just now hit High Rank :lol

Yeah I know what you mean :lol, I'm 93 hours in and I'm about half way through the Nekoht quests but I'm still only on the 1* guild quests (I refuse to solo guild quests and I haven't had many opportunities to multi). It sucks because at this rate I'll never get to fight a Fatalis (the only first gen Monster I've yet to fight).

Yep, hit HR Guild Hall and Nek ...and I dunno, I just felt like I was done or at least need an extended break.
Most of the GuildHall stuff I was able to do with friends and ADHOC fortunately...

I'm not even sure that is a good idea. European players didn't have the chance to even play those monsters due to the lack of a demo.

Also I would skip the locales too since discovering is part what make this series awesome.

Guess there won't be much info to tell without spoiling at least a bit of the game.

I'm Australian and I've played both the Japanese and US demos, so that's not necessarily true...

Anyway, moving on, those 3 monsters have all already been highly publicised so if you haven't already seen them then you've been on one hell of an extreme media black out. A mug shot and a short paragraph isn't going to spoil anything. It's not like I'll be writing a walkthrough on them.

I'm also creating a thread (not for Gaf) and I feel bad for having all areas and monsters. :lol

Yesterday I was watching some videos and there was one in which Bobo said his party was caught by surprise after Qurupeco summoned Ibirujo, they didn't even know it existed.

Imagine how fucking awesome it must have been?

Indeed, I personally very much regret my inability to spoil the entire cast for myself. But to be fair, it has been a fucking 9 month wait. At the very least I've tried not to watch any extended video footage of any of the monsters not in the demo (as that will actually spoil the challenge).

April 29th needs to hurry up >:(.
Screw you Americans and Europeans!

This is good news. I'm already seeing tv ads for the game. Saw one last night on Cartoon Network or SyFy. Can't remember which one as I was flipping back and forth between them. Don't think it was a midnight ad either as it wasn't that late. More around 9 or 10pm est I think.

So are those downloadable quests or are they only up for a limited time or what?
Up for a limited time but don't worry, they will be back again.

As for the official thread, I think it is alright to show all 5 areas and the 2 for arena mode. Monsters wise,

1. Great Jaggi
2. Qurupeco
3. Royal Ludroth
4. Barroth
5. Rathian
6. Rathalos
7. Lagiacrus

are fine too.

I'd say that anything Capcom has "spoiled" is fair game. And there's still a lot that has not been shown by Capcom US. The other night during the live stream, they kept switching away from the game whenever Snow would go to change his equipment. He said this was to keep from spoiling. So I imagine there is quite a fair amount of stuff that hasn't been officially shown to any of us outside of Japan...

I really want to buy MHTri, but I'm really really afraid that I won't be able to play anything else, and there's so many great games coming in May and June. :(

hahah yeah im in the same boat but i wont be able to resist. Already plan on picking up Street fighter and Red dead. Just go ahead and stick the needle deep in your arm and enjoy the overdose.

Reminder : Still fucking hype for this game. However, im on the fence with wiispeak still, i really wish it was a headset as i generally have my tv on a low volume so i doubt other people are going to come in well enough to hear. Anyone in here with wiispeak experience care to share with the rest of us about it?

You do realise that means
all but one monster
right? Anyway, I'll just stick to Great Jaggi, Quropeco, Lagiacrus and I'll add the Raths (Everyone knows they're returning and they work well for demoing the graphical upgrade).

Two
actually. Yeah I do think they did show a bit.

I've obviously not been paying that close attention then as I've only seen about six. Sorry...

I guess maybe im alone in the fact i dont think any of this game can be spoiled. Ive always thought of spoilers are a story centric thing. Are we gonna set up some sort of list of all the gaf players once the game comes out? Maybe save the second post in the OP for it?

Is there a real point of such a list? I don't want the official thread turn into the list mess that happened in the Diablo 3 thread with people saying: add me to the list for several pages long.

Hmm good point. Maybe we could do a steam friends list thing that way we have some way of communicating without 10000s posts of "anyone want to play right now?"

Pretty cool. There was a Monster Hunter commercial during the Lakers game a few seconds ago. I wasn't paying much attention because I was doing something on the PC. I heard an accent but I just scoffed it off as that Skittles commercial but I turned around just to see if I was wrong. :lol

I just bought a wii speak for this game. You all better have one.

Will there be a multiplayer thread kin the other board that i never see or will the official thread be the home of get together hunting?

So um, where the hell is the official thread?

^^^goddamit, this game is going to make me spend 80 bucks on it, isnt it? Gonna pick up endless ocean bundle soon...

gotee12 said:
I'm looking for one myself. Don't feel like paying $20 for it though. I'm a cheap SOB...

To all wanting a Wii speak but don't feel its worth it by itself, I recommend seeing if the Endless Ocean 2 bundle with Wii speak is still around. EO is quite special in its own right. Recommended.
