Monster Hunter 3 Tri Official Site Updated

So hows the official thread coming along? Do you need any help?:D
I've sort of got it planned out mentally. Right now I should be fine, but I'm sure there'll be a few places that pop up that I'll need your help on.

I'll post my draft up on Google docs when I get it done, so you guys can give me some feedback :D.

I am thinking of creating the main banner, I am pretty confident I can do a nice one since I have designing background lol.

Check out the faq below. Substitute "Megathread" with the term "Official Thread". In a nutshell, the official thread will be the main resource for all MH3 info/posts/etc on NeoGAF. If you notice, this thread is simply titled "Monster Hunter 3 Tri Official Site Updated". It's not the "official, one and only" thread for the game. Though the majority of the talk in this thread might make it look official...

I have to say I am pretty impressed with the marketing Capcom is putting behind this. I see ads for the game every so often on the internet (namely youtube). Also, Capcom providing demos pretty much to me shows that they are arguably having the best marketing i've ever seen for a wii game. They just need to make sure to heavily advertise it on tv and Monster Hunter can finally become a super popular series!

Naturally good marketing means more people will buy the game which means more variety in who to play with online!

Edit: also in the official thread make sure you emphasize every feature in the online. Most people will probably end up buying the game because of how amazing the online is. As i've mentioned before MHTri has potentially the best online multiplayer i've ever seen in a Wii game.

I would let you but RagingSpainard already claimed dibs on the banner, sorry.

Welp im getting a psp and unite tomorrow. Should have never gotten that damn demo. But hey at least ill get some practice in before 3 comes out so im not completely terrible. If anyone else feels urge to do some low level hunting with me in the coming days i will most definitely be up for it :)

I didn't have much knowledge or interest in this game until about a year ago, I met a group of people that are super-into Freedom Unite and some of the other PSP entries, and their excitement for Tri has sort of rubbed off on me. I picked up the demo yesterday, and have put more time into it today, trying out different weapons and still trying to get acclimated.

It's...strange. I feel like I shouldn't be having as much fun with this as I am, especially when the demo doesn't contain any of the major gear-building aspects of the game. I haven't even gotten to the Querepeco mission yet, just taking out the Great Jaggi with various weapons and looking around the locales. I could definitely see this pulling away a lot of time with a good group of friends. I really hope this game delivers and sells well, to keep Capcom's goodwill towards Wii flowing. TvC is great, I'm still playing and replaying MM10, and now this!

I won't be able to play the game, let alone go online, till the 25th of May for one week and then till the 30th July. Now I feel everyone will marathon the game until it's too late for me to get a noob group going :|

Nope its not in MH3, its a series reboot. You know Capcom.

Aw man. With only 15 monsters, i can only imagine the amount of quests are small.

TELL ME IM WRONG. Tell me more about the hunter guilds too. How many star levels and quests in each on average?

So, I just picked up this demo while at gamestop for other reasons.....and I'm so lost. Firstly, I'm playing with the Classic controller, and that freaking map that comes with the demo has 0 instruction on how to use it. Hell, it took me 20 minutes to figure out that if you hold block you get access to different moves. I did decent with the sword and shield, got my face rocked with the biggest-sword (Great Sword I think?), did decent with the spear, and was really proud of myself with the Long Sword (the one that looks like a thin 2-hander).

But even with all that playtime, I still don't think I'm really understanding the game (again, I kind of think it's because I don't have a map of the controls). Mostly I think it's just because I'm not used to anything. The animation stall after an attack is infuriating, and the inability to change direction quickly during an attack is killing me. I think I'm just to used to Demon's Souls or something. I'll give it a try again this weekend. Perhaps I was just choosing the wrong class or something...

Ha! You broke before I did!

(Though in all honesty I am talking to a dude on Craigslist about selling his. :lol )

Not sure if this has been asked but in general how long will quest last in game? The 20 minute limit is for the demos but what can we be looking at in the real game? 30 minutes, 1 hour, or no time limit at all?

I honestly probably would have suggested playing Unite AFTER Tri since Tri is fairly close now.

Unite is very confusing at first if you have no series experience. It throws so many concepts and stats and ... things in general at you with no tutorials at all really except for some simple bookshelf reading.

50 minutes is the standard length, though a few will have less.

Yea i'm wondering about this as well since i remembered seeing more hunter ranks (i think it was 40 something)....

Could someone give info on the hunter ranks in Tri and clear this up

Tenbatsu? Luigiv?

although more content is never a bad thing, I do feel like a smaller re-haul game was necessary. They COULD have, however, added more content to such a re-haul, but I'm sure I will have a ton of fun for a ton of hours.

There are 5 stars, or I guess ranks, for quests. The first star will have like five and it gets progressively larger for each rank. The last rank has tons of quests. When you go online, the number of quests pretty much doubles.

There are Hunter Ranks, but afaik it's just hours played. It maxes at 999.

They did add much more content. Except some fan favorite weapons, armors, and monsters, everything is new to the game. To add every old item, weapon class, and monster would have added much to the development time (year+). I'm sure an MHTriG or equivalent will come out with many more monsters.

Will a tri G for wii be able to transfer our save data you think? I would hate to think of the new stuff I'm missing out on when the inevitable psp version comes out. I would hate restarting hundreds of hours of work. Also I would hate to have to go back to a handheld that no one I know even has much less plays mnster hunter on because my OCD monste hunter fan in me desperatly wants to beat anything he can.

Well they added a good amount of content, and I never suggested that they bring all of the monsters/weapons over. I merely suggested that more content (be it new to the mh series or not) couldn't have hurt from an experienced players POV. You are right about the development time aspect though and I'm sure I will be satisfied with the product.

People's eyes are often bigger than their appetite and I'm sure a bunch of people wont even cut through the majority of the content.

Don't give up! There is a very steep learning curve but you'll get it. You're right, find a weapon you like and stick with it. Eventually it'll start to come together and the game will feel like putty in your hands. Once you start learning combos/hit and dodge moves with your weapon and then learning monster tells for attacks and when to punish... It is amazing. Trust me. I am glad I had a friend show me the ropes when he got me into freedom2 but you have gaf :D and we're here to help.

I'd go out on a limb and say yes. If they did it from freedom2 to freedom unite why wouldn't they do it on the Wii? Even though starting up a new save on MH is actually quite fun IMO. It feels strange not having access to all your gear but it's like a breath of fresh air.

Falser words have never been spoken :(. More content is a double edged sword. On one hand it can lengthen and add value to the product but on the other hand it can have a negative effect on pacing and spread resources thin during development. Personally I'm glad MH3 doesn't have more content then it does as it would have taken away from the developers focus, which they only had so much of. And subspecies, the easy way out, are nothing more then redundant filler so I'm definitely glad they're gone.

I'm not exactly sure, to be honest. I haven't actually played the final game myself, so there are still parts I don't really know about.

There's 18 boss monsters. It doesn't sound like much, but there were only 17 in the first and that had a few duplicate monsters (palette swaps, resizes, etc.). Don't be fooled, though. People get thousands of hours of gameplay out of those 15 monsters.

Yeah, 18, sorry.

18 boss monsters and 17 minions. I'm not sure were 15 came from. Anyway, that's a little more then the original MH.

How many are in Unite? I only started recently, I'm about 10 hours in.

Unite has a ton. Something like 48 IIRC. More than half are just duplicates of other monsters, though. You also have to remember that MHFU and every MH before it just added new content to the already existing lineup. MHTri has all (well, mostly) new content.

There are 6 star levels and an average of about 16-19 for each star level. Star 6 got about 9 if I am not wrong. Also there are events quest too + colosseum mode. Average you will need at least 200 - 300 hrs if you wanna clear everything online/offline.

999 Max this time round. You see the HRP there? Its basically the amount of points you have. NEXT is the amount of points you need to advance to the next rank.

You need to have certain rank to be able to play certain quest.

Yes certainly can. For PS2 series, you are able to transfer MH save data to MHG. But not from MHG to MH2 Dos.

Thanks for the info.

So its like the guild pts from Unite but actually used for your Hunter rank now? Cool

One of the most interesting and most important addition to MH3 Tri is the Protection Stone (護石) system. Basically it's in the form of an Amulet (お守り) where you can get after a mission or from mining. After appraising, the amulet will become a Protection Stone and there are 7 rarity level to them. Each Protection Stone contains slots/skills to further help you to enhance your armor skills combination when equipped.

What's interesting is that they are totally random which means that each and everyone of us will get different Protection Stones.

For eg:
Player A gets Evade +7 Protection Stone
Player B gets Evade +5 Protection Stone

Player A will have the advantage here to activate the Evade skill than Player B if both of them are wearing the same set of armors/weapon/ornaments.

Combining Protection Stone with armors/weapons slots and Ornament, the whole armor skill system had evolved to a whole new level. The reason why hunters in MH3 avoid wearing full set of armor from a particular monster now is partly due to this system. You guys will sure have a hell of a lot of fun playing with the numbers.

Sometimes, I miss the MH1 system.

I'm playing the demo and I'm not really a graphics whore but damn this game kind of looks like ass on my LCD. I have it hooked up through component and have progressive scan enabled. Am I doing something wrong? Most of my other Wii games look decent.

Try running it in 4:3. 16:9 mode can be blurry on some TVs (runs 360p).

Lol. You know what, my friend actually fall asleep calculating armor skill offline after work while the game is running and getting woken up by the blacksmith in the game to resume calculating:lol

Erm...no. Retail game is the same as the demo for Japanese version.

Can you get your tv to look like this?

Um, if my television were 6 inches diagonal like that picture it would look just like that :lol :lol

Once you blow that up to 40 inches it looks like ass.

Definitely disappointing no 480p in widescreen. That seems kind of lazy to me. They make a great product but don't bother making it 480p like most Wii games. Oh well, looks like I'll play full screen unfortunately.

Would love to see how it looks like on your TV, maybe a shot? Mine looks exactly like the top pic on a 26inch LCD from 1m away.

Wait, the game is 360p and doesn't support widescreen?
Well it's not really officially confirmed but by the looks of things, when the game runs in 16:9 it gets the exact same mild blur I get in other confirmed "shortscreen" games like RE4, Deadly Creatures and GoWII. Also most of the official screenshots are 640x360 with the ones in 480p being noticeably blurrier. So by that account I think it safe to say it's running 360p.

4:3 mode runs 640x480 though.
