Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate : first English trailer

Hopefully we get some footage of new stuff at e3 but probably not - saved for some Japanese event I imagine.

I could never get used to the bow controls with CPP :( I guess I am weak.

Longsword/Lance user for life.
Bow controls are quite a bit different from bowgun controls. I'm still not great with the bow, but holding down the aim trigger while moving around used to be really bad news so I'd just fire arrows with minimal targeting - as opposed to bowguns where I'll always look down the scope to place shots.

No Wii U version, no buy!

I really hope they do a WiiU version. Whilst I'll probably grab it on 3DS too, these kind of games just lend themselves to a proper console so much more. I can never be bothered to sit for hours on end staring at a tiny handheld screen, not to mention how clunky the controls are on handheld.

I'm totally getting MH4U, though I really wish it was on Wii U. I've played only a few hours of the 3DS version of MH3U, and close to 1000 hours of the Wii U version.

Lances are for people who want to poke and never take damage. Great Sword and Hammer is where it's at.

Though I do want to try Charge Axe. And I know the term is supposed to be Charge Blade but that's lame sounding.

let's talk best weapon mhgaf

its obviously our lord and savior the gunlance

I feel the great sword loses more and more followers. 'too hard', 'others give the same power' - but I still say it's the OG, definitive MH weapon. Even if with mh3u I mained the safe old hammer.

This time I'm set on starting out with the bug staff though

Really hoping Nintendo pull out a Money Helm Z, or whatever else it would take to get Capcom to make Wii U version of this.

I hate MH trailers. The CG segments are the actual game I want to play, as opposed to what we end up getting: the same game they invented on the PS2 with virtually no upgrades and literally the same monsters.

Capcom should fire the MH team and give the franchise to their best coders. It wasn't that long ago that the franchise set record sales for the company and the franchise (on PSP, when these graphics were considered good).

At this point I have higher hopes for the Chinese MMO spinoff than the main game, really all that needs to be said.

I love MH as much as the next fan, but there are limits to a man's patience, and a bottom floor to standards.

This kind of image quality doesn't fly in 2014/2015.

I might be missing out, but I can't support it either.

They are currently training the Chinese to make HD games for them in CryEngine with MHO lol

I would say the assests created there will eventually be the new standard within the next 20 years or so :P

I know. I'm just annoyed we have had to wait soooo long for a real upgrade to this franchise.

They have the exact same mentality with this series as GameFreak does with Pokemon man

Because its a Portable Series they figure it doesn't make sense to break out of that mold.

Only reason I still use the GS honestly is because the Hammer can't cut tails.

Yup. Now we're getting an IOS port too. gotta stick with those sweet, sweet PS2 assets! The stupid thing is that unlike Pokemon, MH has potential to keep selling to the core. But for some reason at the height of MH success Capcom decided not to invest in the franchise. It is their only hardcore franchise that's yet to make a next gen debut. MH3U isn't next gen.

Some people find the worse picture to make comparations.

At 3DS screen MH3U look beautiful. MH4U sure will be best.

Best way is to see a trailer with ingame scenes.

I use GunLance here too, best weapon.

1) All attacks are useable

2) Have more variations

3) One of the best draw atack

4) Make me feel like a real tank of war.

didn't take long for people who never experienced (or played) the game on the 3ds to complain about a few shitty screenshots.

looks absolutely fine in person

I know this may be port begging, but I would love to see this on Wii U also so that I can maximize my multiplayer play time. Having MH3U on both 3DS and Wii U was amazing for me and my friends, and really what allowed us to get in hundreds of hours of that game. Please don't let me down Capcom.

People have been complaining for the last few MH games. It's not like the 3DS is the first time they phoned it in.

Why do people insist on pretending that this game isn't ugly

It is. Just say you dont care because you

- Love Monster Hunter Gameplay
- Love the smooth animations and Framerate

But lets not pretend that this isn't running with the same visual fidelity that the series started with. Which it gets away with on Portable Hardware.

Doesn't mean they aren't pretty in some ways. I thought Portable 3rd was the prettiest game in the series.

MH3 and 3U on the Wii and WiiU respectively aren't awful either

I see no compelling textures.

Anyway, my excitement for this title is pretty minimal right now since the release is so far away. I'm hoping Capcom announces a Wii U version at some point though. Playing on a console with a controller is my ideal experience. Either way, I'll settle for the 3DS version if I have to.

Thats basically my attitude

Settling with what they give me....

It gets away with it on 3DS and IOS. It would look bad compared to Vita games. Which is funny, since Sony basically made Vita a MH playing device.

Vita is literally built to play games in this Genre.... which is why SO many have popped up in the absence of MH

But thats a whole other conversation that just gets me angry.

Lets just focus on getting these japanese table scraps

And you want to get the Tencent spinoff?

I might be missing out, but I can't support it either.

That's just an extremely awful shot, the game looks great in certain aspects and eh on others, but the whole package is really impressive.

Can't wait for this, more action games for the 3DS is always welcome and I'm" sure GAF will love the online feature (won't be using it myself since the appeal of this genre is solo play for me). To Monster Hunter vets is Monster Hunter 4 easier or harder than Freedom Unite?

EDIT: I'm" a Greatsword wielder til the casket drops, it was virtually the only weapon I used in MHFU (like 90% over the others).

Wow, we made it a whole 66 posts before it became a bitch-fest about graphics. If you think that the whole series is "the same game they invented on the PS2 with virtually no upgrades and literally the same monsters", I have to ask if you actually play games or just look at them.

GS 4 lyfe

The trailer put a goofy smile on my face when it showed full-screen CG and then zoomed out to fucking tiny-ass, fake-3DS gameplay footage. Lol, the fuck.

But yeah. In my personal, humble opinion, the technical graphics are shite (not that I really care; I played HL2 on lowest settings at 640x480). Those ground textures look like someone took a picture with a potato of vomit, saved it as a jpeg, and then compressed it 50x before uploading it to YouTube to edit.

The artistry and charm, on the other hand, shines through despite being held back by 3DS hardware.

Did you play 3U on WiiU? This looks way worse. I never touched the game with a 3DS. I can't bring myself to play MH on such a low quality device. Even the WiiU version had disappointing graphics, but at least you could live with it and could use a real controller with analog sticks to play it.
I've put a few hours into 3U on the Wii U. Although much of the environment has better detail at 1080p, the framerate of that version was worse than on the 3DS. Comparing what I've seen of 4 to 3U on the 3DS, it does look like a graphical improvement over the previous generation. It would be nice if they'd put together a Wii U version of 4U also with a 3DS-level framerate (and it probably wouldn't be too much effort since it's an MT Framework game), but that's just hypothetical at this point.
