Sorry, no Wii U version planned for this one...
But with it having online on the 3DS (for the first time in the series!) you can possibly play online anytime and anywhere you have access to wi-fi.
I wish there was a WiiU version. I own MH3U on both and while I have invested hundreds of hours into that game, 98% of it was on the WiiU which I vastly preferred.
If the only reason the Wii U version existed was for online, why not just add online to the 3ds version? And online isn't the main benefit of a console version anyway, it's the larger screen with higher res visuals that most people want it for.

I played with the circle pad pro, so it wasn't such a big deal for me. I was fine defaulting to the 3ds when I was playing local co-op with my brother on the Wii U version. But I won't be able to do that with 4 unless I buy another 3ds for him to use, and we'll both be stuck with the low res graphics.
If a Wii U version really wasn't planned, I'm honestly kinda shocked. You'd think by now they could handle an asset pipeline that would allow them to create the original textures at a decent resolution, and have them reduced for the 3ds build. There's so much content, why not maximize your potential output?
