Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate : first English trailer

The trailer put a goofy smile on my face when it showed full-screen CG and then zoomed out to fucking tiny-ass, fake-3DS gameplay footage. Lol, the fuck.

But yeah. In my personal, humble opinion, the technical graphics are shite (not that I really care; I played HL2 on lowest settings at 640x480). Those ground textures look like someone took a picture of vomit, saved it as a jpeg, and then compressed it 50x before taking a picture with a potato.

The artistry and charm, on the other hand, shines through despite being held back by 3DS hardware.

The Vertical Gameplay, New weapons, New monsters and New AI are game changers

Its just sad that it all comes in such an ugly visual package.... even by 3DS standards

Did you play 3U on WiiU? This looks way worse. I never touched the game with a 3DS. I can't bring myself to play MH on such a low quality device. Even the WiiU version had disappointing graphics, but at least you could live with it and could use a real controller with analog sticks to play it.

Different strokes for different folks. Bad graphics don't really bother me if the art design shines through (the Souls series certainly don't exude technical wizardy, for example).

But yeah. Don't want to put words in people's mouths, but I think the disagreement stems from one person talking about the technical design while the other is talking about the artistic design.

If people are claiming Monster Hunter looks good technically (maybe for the 3DS...), then I don't really know what to say.

Man, what a crappy trailer. It's easy to follow the safe, cliche trailer format, but this does nothing to bring across why Monster Hunter is good. Oddly enough, the normal CG intro movie that they cut to ribbons for this trailer works better on its own to show the excitement of a monster hunt, and the fun that comes from working with others.

Must have Wii U version... I'd buy both Wii U & 3DS day one... if it's only on the 3DS it will be a bargain bin buy. Come on Capcom!

All the plebs here with their actual good lances, gunlances, hammers or great swords. I'll keep gimping myself with my inconditional love of the Switch Axe.

I can't play portable MH anymore after having played MH3U on the Wii U, so if it's not coming out on that them I'm out of luck this time around.

It's so delicious watching Monster Hunter being Capcom's biggest game on E3 after all they've put the fanbase through.

I thought it was a really creative trailer. First time I've ever seen gameplay footage on a fake-3DS zoomed 50 leagues away from the screen. I mean, I've seen gameplay on fake-3DSes, but they were always front and center.

I'll personally wait for Super Ultra Mega Monster Hunter: The 2nd Strike of the Arcade Edition.

Into my veins... Next year!

The insect glaive is interesting, is it true that it is a bit OP?
I believe that was the consensus. But it's a safe bet that the weapons are going to be rebalanced to some degree between 4 and 4U, so there's no guarantee it'll remain that way.

Imported MH4 and the game is so so so so good.

Can't wait for this release. I'm one of those that is hopeful that there's a Wii U counterpart version like 3U but I'll take a 3DS version only too.

Looks like it's time to jump in then. Seemed pointless to buy a MH game to play solo (in the case of MH3:U).
Really don't get why some people seem to think this. It would be like saying that playing a Souls game solo is pointless.

What the fuck? MH is far more balanced for co-op play than any Souls game.

Hoping the HD version is their surprise at E3, or else I'm gonna have to find a CPP XL :(

I really enjoyed MH3:U on the Wii U, but I feel it wouldn't have the same experience being on a portable device. I'll probably pass unless the game comes out on the Wii U as well.

And the balance in solo play is completely different from the balance in co-op (unless you're under the impression that enemy health in co-op isn't scaled to four-member parties no matter how many people are participating, compared to solo play accounting for only what one player can do). You wouldn't notice because monsters go down much faster with a full party in co-op, even with the scaling. Not seeing what your point is. Either way, solo play doesn't cease to exist or is pointless just because some people don't like to play alone.

I wouldn't count on any Wii U surprises from anyone other than Nintendo themselves at E3 at this point.

Natureboy you wouldn't play it unless it's on a PSP/Vita. You are in these threads everytime posting the exact same BS and clearly forgetting just what an ugly game MHFU is now. Take it from someone who has put obscene hours into both MH4 blows MHFU's graphics and textures out of the water.

Honestly it's best to just ignore him guys as he does this everytime as well as elsewhere.

As someone who put like over 2500 hours into Monster Hunter over several games, and having played a ton of MH4, I can confidently say that although the fundemental combat mechanics remain the same, the gameplay overall has changed or improved dramatically. Its really incredible what they achieved and on the 3DS no less. There are definitely some experiential game changers in the game. I don't really wanna spoil but though.

Oh yeah

I am well aware of how awesome the game is and I cant wait to play it

Vertical gameplay blows underwater combat away IMHO. Love the smooth new animation work too.

Shame the 3DS cant deliver the visuals elsewhere though.

You don't have to play with four you know. MH with 2-3 people is a good balance of fun and challenge, whereas Souls even adding one person while more fun at times, just makes every fight an absolute joke difficulty-wise. It's just not comparable imo, and I say this as someone who's two favorite games in recent years are Dark Souls and MH3U HD.

Monster hunter on the WiiU carried me so far during the draughts, I would weep happy years if this one got there aswell. Will be there day 1 on the 3DS. Another few hundred hours is going to be great :)

It seems we've gotten really far away from why I made the Souls comparison. I should've made it clear from the beginning that I believed that saying MH is not worth playing alone in spite of being a skill-based game that you get as much out of as you put into it would be like saying a Souls game isn't worth it when it too is such a game (albeit the two having very different tones and flows of gameplay). I intended to criticize the viewpoint that MH isn't worth playing as anything other than a co-op experience, and viewed it like someone saying that a Souls game should only be played for co-op. It was my mistake for not being more specific to start with.

And you're right, it isn't necessary to use a full party in MH, since as I mentioned, a competent four-member one can easily steamroll whatever gets in the way.

Man this game looks so damn good from all the stuff I've seen... blarrrrrgh why can't it release like, Iono', tomorrow? T^T

Can't wait for this on 3DS. And if it comes also to Wii U, I'll get both again.

Man I am so hoping that happens. I double-dipped on 3U and couldn't be happier about it. Will happily double-dip on 4U if it occurs.

...I'm like one of 6 people in the world that actually likes water combat, aren't I? :-p

I actually like the water combat too. I hope this come to the Wii U.

Wonder if nintendo will write a check to make a wiiu version happen.

They should do! I want this on the u, 3 on the u is great.
If nintendo were a bit more canny they would ensure a wii u release, as it is definitely a game that can drive sales for the wii u in Japan (probably not so much elsewhere I don't know what the split for MH sales is.)

God this looks good. I'm going to be very sad if there's not a console version. I just struggle too much with action games on portable systems.

Will buy day 1.

I have MH3U on both WiiU and 3DS and I own a Circle Pad Pro. The targeting lock-on works so good that I don't even use the right stick on WiiU anymore except underwater.

MH3U also looks very good on 3DS, of course it will look bad in a stretched out video.

I'll get this day zero! I'm so excited. I miss monster hunting with my sister since her move, and now I can again with network play!
I hope there are more felyne armours to get, too!

@people complaining about 3DS graphics... did you play MH3U on 3DS and find it unplayable?

The only thing I could really complain about was that it was hard to see some of the mining points compared to the Wii U version. There was nothing really terrible about it other than that, and once you knew where the points were and what to look for, it was a non issue.

Not unplayable, but extremely unenjoyable and I couldn't go back after I played the Wii U version either. The game felt really unoptimized for the 3.5in screen. The camera was really zoomed out and some of the text was so bad it was unreadable. That and the fact that I have to play with a circle pad pro. I don't know if it was better on an XL, but I never had any problems playing MHFU on a PSPgo's 3.8in screen.
