Monster Hunter Freedom Unite Thread

Alright everyone, snakeiox has been having trouble with ad-hoc party. Connects just fine, enters the lobby, but whenever we leave on an actual quest, about 10 seconds into the game it kicks him out.

Anyone know what could be causing this? Not sure if it happens to snake with less than 4 people.
it happens to me only with 3 or 4 people, anyone knows why?

Ok, first of all, I figured out what I was doing wrong earlier: I was taking jobs in the Guild Hut instead of from the village elder lady to start off with.

Second of all, holy shit am I hooked on this game now! After working through up to killing the first URGENT! Gladrome kill, I'm totally freakin' hooked now.

More questions though:

I went and kinda blew what materials I had on new armor. I got some Chain headpiece, chest, and arms I believe, and then somehow had the stuff to make Bone trousers, which I also bought. Was this a mistake? Should I instead have saved these materials? It's hard to know what to shoot for.

I'm now using the "Bone" Long Sword, and it's much easier. If I want to stick with Long Sword for now, what should I save up for to create/buy? The Iron Long Sword is calling my name, but I don't want to waste materials.

Is it acceptable to go back through a "Cleared!!" quest in order to just farm materials, mine ore, catch bugs, etc?

Sorry for all the questions. Wow, what a game!

Devil Slicer is a Longsword you want to shoot for. It's a decent sword that's fairly easy to get early on in the game. And yes, you're supposed to be going to your Pokke Farm to collect new materials after every quest. Don't forget to start paying attention to your Felyne Kitchen. The sooner you start, the faster you can level up your Felynes. Don't worry about armor. You're no where near collecting Lao Ruby's or Monoblos Hearts, so just gear up whenever you think you need new skill sets or if you're gear is lacking in defense. I wouldn't go too crazy with Armor Sphering your gear this early since early tier gear gets outdated fairly quickly.

Haven't really been in this thread but i thought i could answer some questions.

In the beginning of the game you can just buy/create the armor that is best at the moment.
Later in the game you'll want to buy a whole set of one armor to get certain skills (such as heat resistance)

There are two paths for long swords; the Iron Katana path and Bone path.
Here are two charts of what you can upgrade to.

Bone:
http://www.gamefaqs.com/portable/psp/file/934395/50404

Iron Katana:
http://www.gamefaqs.com/portable/psp/file/934395/50187

Different swords are suited for different monsters.
From my experience the Bone path is easier for upgrades earlier in the game so i say go with your bone and just upgrade that.

Use the gathering quest to gather materials (first quest). Other quests can be good if you need money though.

So I believe I'm finally ready to dedicate myself to becoming a Monster Hunter ....question though:

Can I really not play this online if I don't have a WIRED Playstation3 connection?

If not oh well ...guess I'll be playing alot by myself =/

Best advice is to go with what feels good to you. There is no right or wrong way. Basically, you can make the game easier or harder based on what you use, but its never impossible.

Honestly, you can't really waste materials as there are none that are "one time only" type of things. If you find you dont like it you can always load your game or go farm more. Try to get the skills to match up on the armor. For instance 10 points in attack will give you Attack Up (small). Lots of great FAQ's on gamefaqs.

I went with the garuga armor as one of my first real sets. Cant go wrong with earplugs honestly. Makes a lot of fights much easier/quicker.

I know Devil Slicer was mentioned and yes, its a great weapon to start off with.
Especially when you get to Plesioth
. Then you can mix it up and make whatever you like. I'd note that some monsters parts can only be broken using certain elements.
Blangonga fangs you use fire, Chameleos horn dragon, etc.

Well there IS Xlink Kai but the last time I tried to set that thing up (and mind you I'm at least SOMEWHAT technically savvy) I couldn't get the damn thing working to save my life.

But if you get it working it DOES have a pretty big community so there is that....

I've just cleared all the old lady quests but the 6* clear is red rather than purple, does that mean anything?

it means that there is a quest you haven't completed on that level. sometimes quests rotate in and out of availability, and you don't have the option yet. Have you cleared all the levels up to 6? sometimes clearing all the quests on all levels will unlock hidden quests needed for the purple "final" text.

question: does anyone know what the sword is the looks like a big green fin or tooth? its from way back in the first monster hunter. I think it has circles, or tears along one side of it. sound familiar?

Ah, must be a hidden one, will look it up. Yea I have done all the other *quests and got purple clears on all them. Cheers for your help.

lol, some guy traded me a cat yesterday that was UBER hacked. I tried it on an Ukanlos, and killed him just with the cat in a few minutes.

He totally breaks the game, and I don't plan on using him, but was a neat surprise to get one.

On a related note, I am trying to fill my cat ranks with all orange. I have several, but it seems like orange colored cats are never offered to me anymore. Does anyone have an orange cat they could give to me? (FYI, giving cats away only copies them, it doesn't delete them from your roster also).

thanks!

2 star rathalos in GH have same drop rates as "elder" drop rate rathalos? need that damned plate... high rank rathalos kill me :(

FUCK!

Fighting my ass off vs Chameleos and he kills me RIGHT BEFORE HE RETREATS.

This is not an acceptable victory...

I hope to join in via Ad-hoc party soon, but I am still doing the beginning training so I can actually learn the game. From the sounds of things this game is difficult, so best be somewhat prepared first.

Also, setting up the Ad-hoc Party for PS3 was so easy to do by following the link in the OP. Now I can play my PSP games online! :D

Just started doing *** quests from the Village Chief and my current armor set is

Genprey Helmet
Giaprey rest of body

upgraded 4(I get lots of armor spheres from the farm but rarely machelite) times. any suggestion on which I armor set I should upgrade to(blademaster)?

Also are my dual swords going to needing an upgrade soon?

Dual tomahawks(168)
Twin Kut Ku(154+100 Fire)
Gluttons set(154)

Any advice on how to make a gunner set using Barrage Piercing that includes Short Charge and Guts, Evade, or Evade Distance? I have limited resources at work so I cant look anything up at the moment :(

Just got me the Dragonwood Bow (300 Atk, 180 Lightning, ParaAdd) after never really playing a Gunner. Tried doing Gold Rathian naked, got her down to about 1/2 life but kept getting one shot after I made mistakes. :lol

G elders.

Is there some special unlock you have to do to get access to these, or is the HR6 the highest you get for monsters like daora and teo?

I just made
BODY - Hermitaur Vest Z
ARMS - Lava Guards X (1 Short Charge jewel )
WAIST - Lava Coat X (1 More Guts jewel )
LEGS - Lava Leggings X (1 Short Charge jewel )

Add in your Barrage Piercing and you should have TerrainDamageHalf, Focus, Guts plus Capacity Up.

Question about the ParaAdd. I made Perfect Swordfish Bow and it has that included. I haven't looked up exactly what that means. I assumed it that the bow had Paralyze on the normal shots, or am I wrong and it just ups your chance to land a paralyze with ParaCoatings? I haven't paralyzed anything yet and I'm even using the Chaoshroom for Abnormal Status Attack Up skill.

Found this site for some amour combos and the like, it's an old link and some images are missing but still has all the info.

http://yashi.buhangin.com/temp/MHF2/Armor%20Combo%20Guide.htm

I think that info is for MHF2, not Unite. A lot of the skill stats for armors were changed from that game to this, so be careful not to blow money away

Afraid the 2star Rathalos does not drop the plate. Try the 5star quest, The King's Domain. He does drop it but it's ultra rare. It has a 3% chance of being carved off the tail and a 2% chance coming off his shiny drop (flash bomb him out of the air). You can get it in rewards but I don't know the chances of that. The Hi rank one has a better drop rate.

Azure Rathalos seems to have a even lower carve rate, even the high rank one. There is an elder quest with regular flavor Rathalos called Troublesome Pair (6star) but you have to deal with Rathian too. Their hit points and general stats are much lower than the GH ones. If you've been killing rathalos in the GH, the one in that quest shoulf go down fast.

Which dinner food should I choose, I always go for the meat and fish, which gives me 20 health and 50 stamina. Is there a better combination. I tried to look at the wiki, but there it shows that meat and fish gives me nothing??

I have a full kitchen, and I always go for Dragon head and king truffle. Health increase, and attack up!

Kill Ash Lao Shan G rank. To unlock Ash Lao Shan clear all G1* & G2* Marathon Quests.

Thanks I will look into that. This is for a purely bow by the way. Capacity up is for bowgun isn't it? I know concentration = short charge in union.

I think it increases the chance of paralysis using ParaCoatings. 100+ shots did not paralyze a Gold Rathian so I doubt its actually a paralyze attrib on the weapon. Although I did manage to paralyze her with 8 Para coatings. May have just been lucky on getting multiple hits with pierce charge though.

Depends how many cats you have in your kitchen cooking. Since i have 5 Felyne Chefs, i always go for meat and vegetable that gives +40hp and Hight Attack.

Heres the Felyne Chef Faq.

You're welcome. Capacity Up skill is on the Barrage Piercing, and with the bow, adds an extra charge level. For example, my PerfectSwordFishBow charge attacks are:
1.Rapid Lv3
2.Scatter Lv4
3.ScatterLv5

but add on the Capacity Up skill and you gain:
4.Rapid Lv4

Short Charge skill is awesome with the Bow btw, definitely look forward to that ;)

I got you, I was mixing up skills. That is exactly what I am looking for. Nice resists too for this armor set. All i need is a couple Lavasioth kills, 3 ancient fish, and to finish up the solo training quests and ill be set. Also going for the Akantor Upgrade bow eventually.

Your armor definitely needs an upgrade. You really don't need to armor-sphere early on like that since new gear gets unlocked as you kill different monsters. Find an armor set with the skills you're interested in. I remember using the Kut Ku set up until I was able to use the Shogun set, which is great for melee characters.

I believe I used the Kut-Ku set as well early on. I moved on to Garuga Set (ear plugs are a lifesaver). Currently I am using Rathalos Soul(Hi Grade Ear Plugs), Akantor(Sharpness+1, ear plugs), and Narga (ESP and evade) sets depending on the monster.

Getting Xlink Kai working was an ordeal, but the worst part about getting it working is that even when it was working, I had to deal with waiting forever for Kai to detect my PSP, deal with having to constantly "re-kai", and deal with fact that on a random night, there might not be anyone to play with. The number of people online on Kai doesn't accurately reflect the availability of rooms to join. There is probably a significant percentage of kai users trying to troubleshoot their set-up.

Ad hoc Party, even dealing with everything being in Japanese, is so much easier in comparison and the ahp community around monster hunter is that much bigger for that reason. I've pretty much abandoned Kai, but there are some things I miss about kai.

Monster Hunter is a game where it helps a lot to know other people's playing styles and with how Kai was, I ended up playing regularly with a small group of people (because it was so unpredictable playing with random strangers due to issues with lag, connectivity, etc...).

Is the Diablo armor anything to farm for? Have the Tigrex armor now, and autodetect and fast eating is really helpful. Have unlocked U and S armors, but so far none of them seem very interesting? Or is there some low level U and S I should be going for?

Diablos U armor is useful, since it gives u artisan/sharpness+1, but it is a pain to make and its other skills are pretty lacking.

I shudder at the thought of farming the materials for that set. Sharpness+1 is a very nice skill to have though.

you can get sharpness from centaur armor though and it is much easier to farm.

Just poking around HR4 with my second character and sticking with it. Almost exclusively great sword (Titernia, Sieglunde, Executioner--edit: upgraded Judgment actually) and heavy bowgun (still Tigrex Howl and Yian Kut-Ku) depending on the enemy. I do find the light bowgun Azure Sakura to be great too though, good attack especially with Pierce up armor. Khezu, Cephadrome, Basarios and Gravios, etc really don't enjoy that one.

Guilty pleasure weapon is Binder Mace. Go into Carnivore Carnival and watch as four surrounding 'prey get paralyzed in one swipe. :lol

Isn't that Sharpness skill though? That makes you sharpen faster. I think we are talking about fencing skill that gives Sharpness+1.

diablos U gives you sharp sword, meaning sword sharpness lasts longer. it's nice but not as nice as sharpness + 1.
i have a diablos U set for daora and chameleos farming at high rank. gem for dragon wind res so i just walk up and wail away.

or this combo:
Diablos Helm U
Diablos Mail U
Ceanataur Vambraces U
Diablos Coil S
Diablos Greaves U
Weapon: 1 slot
Decora: HeavyMetal Jewel x3, Hermit Jewel x1, Razor Jewel x2
Skills: Dragon Wind Press, Sharp Sword, Reckless Abandon+1

hermit jewel was a pain in the ass to make though. req. fire dragon powder. from high rank teostra.

god damn kut ku ears.

any tips on how to break the kut ku's ear using dual swords?

killed/captured 25+ kut ku's already and I only have 1 ear. Stupid bushes/trees blocking my sight when im fighting the damn kut ku.

Well, you HAVE to break the ears. You'll get a 50% chance of getting one as a reward. Also, use a Sonic Bomb when it's not raged to stun it and drop it's shiny which has a 10% chance of also being an Ear (for some reason).

Are you killing it before you break the ears? Try to only concentrate on hitting the head until it's broken, then wail on him. With the DB use the uppercut to whack the head and roll out of the way. When he taunts, use the demonize. He is weak to water element.

Anyone online?

You are right I have Sharpness and SwdShrpner skills.

The Active skills are Sharp Sword and Sharpening Skl Inc

So, can anyone recommend a set that gives Sharpness +1 and Sharp Sword skills?

Or perhaps Short Charge and Runner (stamina) for Hammer users?
