Monster Hunter Freedom Unite Thread

Do elder's quests give you anything besides extra materials/money and access to new areas? Im guessing Hunter Rank is only upped by going Gathering hall quests?
Yea you only go up in HR by doing certain GH quests. We can burn though some later if you want.

Gotcha. Also armor spheres, save em till I get some really good armor? Or just upgrade along the way?

Armor spheres can be used along the way. The only ones I would really save are the top armor spheres. Spheres are used in a value close to your armor. Low level armor uses more low level spheres IIRC.

Also, elder quests are easier as they are meant to be done solo. Going through it will unlock new pokke farm upgrades/ trenya boat locations. That is unless you go through the hall and go through the HRs. Also, there are two elder quests that have unique monsters such as the White Monoblos and the Yian Garuga. The garuga was a DL quest too if you prefer to hunt it with others.

I highly recommend getting the Sword Saint Piercing. A helm that gives the ESP skill (attacks cannot bounce off monsters) by itself. It was originally unlocked by completing all solo training against the 10 battle / 5 special monsters.

This is from my experience in MHF2, correct me if any of this has changed in/for MHFU. Anyone.

Gotcha. Also I will be up for ad-hoc parties...sometime later tonight or just sometime friday. Either hosting or joining. Might do 8 player rooms but not sure if that'll confuse the PSP for who joins what.

Just picked up the US version in the mail today and transfered my character over about a minute ago.

Seriously cannot wait for the hunt to begin......

I think i'll have to wait until I get some sharper weapons. It's a solo elder urgent quest, so I guess i've gotta do this on my own. Can you slice off it's tail so it cant brace itself?

Nope, and its not that bad compare to other monsters. Check this chart for breakable parts.

There are small grey parts on it's picture...among others (Congala's claws). Those stay with the color scale meaning breakable? Guess I could just run in, slice at it's head and dive away.

Alright...Khezu? wtf...thats like silent hill stuff.
Oh man, I remember when Khezu was my most hated, most feared monster of them all. I had an obsessive, passionate vendetta against him and everything he stood for...

No sight, meaning a number of things: you can't flash him; you can't get scared and Dive Saves All (tm) away from him; no music!

Always in horrible cold areas, and changes frequently.

Like you say, looks like a freakish Silent Hill nightmare. And that roar...

Several hundred hours across all PSP versions, and he's now just a joke :lol

Btw, anyone know of any JPN>EU save converters yet? I'm pumped to carry on with Unite, as the new PS3 tunneling system looks amazing. When everyone gets sorted, look out for Sir Bob in the halls!

The best way to take down a Khazu at the start is use a weapon that can block. 90% of deaths come from a roar/Lightning shot combo he spams when enraged. SnS, Greatsword, Lance and Gunlance will do the job. I'd take a fire SnS if you can get your hands on one and just hop in and out and block the roar. It'll take you longer, sure, but it's pretty safe. One more note, Khezu resists impact weapons, so unless you're using a hammer's charge attack, try to use a slicing weapon.

As for the breaking stuff on him, you can break his body and break his face so yea you could do that.

Edit:

is there a way to get lightcrystals besides mining +1 in farm?

Gypceros. Break the gem on his head. Not only can he not use the flash attack, give you extra time to damage him, but it'll net you a lightcrystal (Some of the time). Here

Yep.

Smashing Gypceros head.

Well, I would recommend save them until you get your first semi-decent armors (like Hermitaur and Blangonga), because in the very beginnings the raw value of the armors rapidly increase.

And about the Khezu, it's a real bastard for beginners :lol. Read tiltnkirby two posts before, his tips are pretty good.

And I suggest waiting for doing treasure hunt until having decent sets of armor and weapons, for example for Mountain use Tigrex armor and Devil Slicer.

from what i gather, you can't go online to do it...? you need to do it from elder?

if that's true, is there ever a point where it's actually beneficial to group up online for quests?

I remember fighting that thing. I died a few times, but then I killed him with 52 seconds remaining the last time I fought him. I was soooo happy.

You'll want to have people with you if you want better weapons/armor for the harder missions. You can do it alone but it takes more skill/prep to take them down, like chain trapping a monster or sleep bombing, whole sets of armor to just solo a fight etc.

And you can do a gypceros quest online. It should make it easier since he has more hp and you got 4 people to attack the head area, hell, if you have a gunner they can pretty much break it solo. And it's more fun, can't forget that.

with a note near the beginning:

"There are actually three different rates. Elder, 1-2 star guild and
G-Rank. 1-2 star guild rates don't really give much, that's why farming
the 2 star Rathalos quest is pointless."

so are you sure we can get lightcrystals by doing it online? i've tried solo twice now and find it hard to break the headpiece..

for my level (just got **** missions from elder), is there a good method for stunning him to make smacking his head easier? i use long sword

Is everyone who played Freedom 2 starting over?
I'm not. I've done only a few quests with my MF2 character but I unlocked some of the farm and have a stash of farmed materials. I'll just keep my character rather than doing that again.

PSN ID: Evlar

I played a bit with the new chameleos longsword. I like how the blade goes in and out of visibility. It seems like you don't bounce off things when it's invisible and your attacking?

What was written and what you're saying is true. I don't really know if he'll drop it on his 2-star version, but he'll sure as hell do it on his 4-star. Also, it's a 1/3 chance, sometimes luck just isn't on our sides.

As for getting the head, you can try using pitfall traps (Shocktraps don't work). That should buy you some time.

Seen a lot of TV adverts for this (UK)

I failed miserably with the demo so I'm gonna give it another shot. :p

Monster Hunter is one of those games I really want to like, but not sure if I will.

That happened with me and MHF1.

I played MHF 2 and then I fell in love.

Exclusively play it multiplayer. The difference is unbelievable. Seriously, no matter what the hardcore "form the camera claw" people tell you, this is a multiplayer game right down to its basic design. I'm having a blast now I only play through Adhoc Party.

I'm primarily a bow / hammer user... but I use a kut-ku stave (level II) and can typically smash his head, sometimes even get a drop during the fight of a lightcrystal, and have gotten lightcrystals in the first Elder quest you're able to battle against him in the rewards screen (unsure what * it is).

Hardest game to find in stores where I live and work...it hasn't shipped to 6 of the places I've checked and only 1 gamestop had any copies...and they sold all "3" already.

WTF Sony? Ship your ****!

Just got it. The install is pretty annoying... stupid cats.

Agrees. I had to pick up mine at Gamestop because no other stores had this game.

Strange, I could have sworn this was a Capcom game...

So it looks like there is no way to convert a save file for this game yet. If there ever is a way, I will convert whoever needs it done.

Just picked up my copy. Going to have to fire up the Adhoc party. I only have one local friend who has the game. We'll play together when we can but online will be the bread and butter.

Can't wait to get started. This will be my first Monster Hunter.

Thanks a ton for trying kassatsu!

Not sure if I want to start over at this point.. I spent more than 300 hours on MHF2/G already... I think its time to give Class of Heroes some time instead..

does the kind of pickaxe effect the chances of picking up good stuff? or does pickaxe variety only dictate how soon it breaks?

Not too familiar with ad hoc. Playing with two friends and one is super laggy and keeps getting kicked. Anyone run into this problem before? =(

ahh hell yea, finally got this game, did a transfer and data install...so far, meh its mhf2, im hr 6 but a lot of the new stuff i guess is still locked>_<

Something must be wrong then. Played the MHF:U demo with 4 players, and no lag or slowdown.
