Is this still a great game to play alone? None of my friends have a PSP, and I don't really feel like going through all the trouble to play online ad-hoc.

For me it is. Words cannot express the joy I felt when I finally took down that stupid Guild Urgent Quest Tigrex alone :D

It is a good single player game. I have been playing single player for about 80 of my 240 hours played.

For me, yes. The odd time that i can get together with buddies and do some dual or three-way hunting is just icing on the cake.

It's a grinder/loot-whore's dream...but it takes skill. Let the whiners focused on controls eat a dick.

I picked up the demo of Monster Hunter FU, but found it really difficult to fight the monsters. Are there interesting FAQs or walkthroughs that most people read when first starting out? I really enjoy the art/style of MH and am looking forward to Tri, but I am unsure if I should start at MHFU or not. Any suggestions?

There are three roads to success in Monster Hunter:

Choose a weapon type you like and then fight loads of small monsters with it. Learn how to use it, what each attack does and where it hits.

Then fight larger monsters and learn their attack patterns. The more you practice the more attack animations you'll start recognising as soon as they start out, which leads to the third thing.

Learn how to evade all attacks and when it's safe to leap in and take a shot yourself.

You'll find plenty of video tutorials on Youtube and text guides on Gamefaqs or Minegarde but I personally think that the best way to learn how to fight is try yourself. Don't rush the quests and take your time with the weapons you choose to use.

It sounds difficult and the demo does not present a very welcoming situation to newcomers. Advanced armour and large monsters right away are not the best way to start playing. The games proper offer the first ten or so quests so you can get the hang of how the game works. If you like the art direction and monster design and you keep at it you'll be slaying giants in a bunch of hours.

im having a bit of a problem, i have tried to connect to download the additional quests but whe it comes up with the loading screen it says there is an error and dissconnects. im using the latest m33 cf so i dont know if thats the problem. if anyone has an idea as to what it could be i would be very grateful for any advice.

Beat dual Rajang Quest at LAST!!

Fought the first one and was doing okay until the 10 min mark hit then POW incomes his big brother all SSJ4 style and shit. At that point I was getting ping ponged back and forth, got killed, came back in and flashed them both (serious stoke of luck) and started to wail on what I hoped was the one I'd weakened earlier. Right as the stun wore off the first one keels over. Success!! After that it was all hit and run, hit and run, with my SnS Hi-Frost edge and using the last of my flash bombs and stun traps. Then BOOM the last one falls and I go nuts in the laundromat I was playing in :D

Thanks for all the advice guys, it ALL came in handy, as for now I'm gonna have fun with my fruity looking, techno-color armor now :)

Change fruity to awesome and we got a winner.

And try sleep bombing them next time. It's great.

Narga weapon names are hilarious. Particularly Darkness Darkblade and Deep Darkhammer. Like, damn...it's so...dark.
You always wanna be sure what color your weapon is in battle. You don't want to have to take your mind off the battle to think "Is this REALLY that dark?". Well now you don't. See, one less thing to think about in a fight.

Congrats :) Final Invitation was indeed a bitch of a fight, and I beat it for the first time using G-rank armor :( Enjoy your colorful armor, some armors even have technicolor underwear. :lol

It's so dark the monsters just come up to you and offer their wrists for you to slit. :lol

Bravo! You did better than I did. The first couple times I had both in the ring they were attacking out of sync. Meaning one would be resting while the other attacked. Couldn't get a break so they just rocked me hard. As stated before I just realized bum rushing the first one in the first 10 minutes would be easier.

Beat the 9* one horned Diablos last night. What a complete whore. Made him my bitch in 19 minutes though after I got the hang of things.

Now to finish off the 9* elder dragons and marathon quests, which have been surprisingly easy so far......

So what Room do most GAF people use on AD-HOC Party? I usually play in the J-50's

I usually hit J-50. It was the room for freedom 2 on some boards, and O have stuck with it because people are always on. I have heard J-2 is the GAF room, but it seems like nobody is ever there.....

That sure was one hell of a satisfying mission to complete! I think I took them down with the Akantor bow, before they paired it down for Unite. It took me a few times, but I managed to kill the first one before the second appeared, which made it a lot easier. He becomes pretty easy to dance with, just keep running clockwise around him.

Just been building my second character for now, went on a Kirin and Tigrex hunting spree. First for the Kirin armor set (nice armor that also delivers some eye candy on the female fighter) and lightning sword. Then used those on multiple desert Tigrex fights mainly driven by the whim to get the Tigrex Howl heavy bowgun.

But fighting multiple Kirins and Tigrex (among the fastest) in a row is a sure-fire way to get carpal tunnel if kept up too long....so taking a breather before moving up the ranks with my new toys.

Yes, Room J-50 is the place to be. It's the same room that most Capcom Unity members use as well. J-2 is usually empty :(

Come on GAF!!!! play some monster hunter

looking forward to the samurai cat armor this friday.

hell yeah! I didn't know they were releasing more.

I hope they expand the cat in later games so that you can actually craft armor for him out of specific wyverns.

How awesome he would look in a little tigrex suit....

Killed my first Khezu today. I know it's a pretty tame monster, but it still felt great and it took some time and patience. :D

Awesome! Khezu was a stumbling block for my friends and I. It was tough because we would always bounce off his scaly ass and the body shocks were the worst. In time you will become a master at shanking that fool. It does feel good doesn't it :lol

Khezu made me love the Gunlance. :3 I used all manner of swords and I kept getting my ass kicked until one day I said "fuck it, I'll try gunlancing him and maybe I can block the lightning attacks." While it was a stupid idea to try to block the lightning balls, Khezu taught me that certain attacks become harmless after guarding them, even if the animation is still ongoing.

yeah, he is really hard at first. Most people overestimate how much time they have to escape before he does his electric charge. I have gotten the one two hit, roll away pretty down.

I always thought that the sonic bomb should effect him most of all, since he's blind, and his hearing is probably really acute and sensitive.

I was stoked they are making a figure of him. I would totally buy a Khezu statue.

Anyone know of a comprehensive list of what the abilities you get from armour and decorations do?

At levels 10, 20 and 30, etc?

I want to start plotting and planning my missions more effectively and I think it's time to start really manipulating what skills/abilities I have by using decorations and various types of armour.

Anyone able to help, that'd be great.

Minnegarde has some great resources. Also check out Gamefaqs for some FAQ's on it.

It also helps to know what you do want out of your skills. There is a huge difference in what you want for being a Blademaster vs being a Gunner.

Edit: I would have provided a link but those sites are blocked at work.

yeah, the decorations can really change the way you play rather fundamentally. I have the narga armor with ESP activated through decorations, and the ability to roll away with greater invulnerability makes it simply possible to get in there and escape without taking damage (especially during tail whips). The ESP allows me the fight the basarios and gravios like cake.

the psychicvis ability on my tigrex armor lets me see where the wyvern is at all times, which is really handy for not wasting time running around in a mission, but you can also line up sonic bombs with diablos under the sand, which would be just impossible unless you see him go under first.

lol

i checked the Narga S headgear and it's way more badass then the Narga X headger >_<

wai?

anyway, my character is poor now... i hate spending all my money on new gear makes it hard to afford other gear... time to sell my stacks of 99x Carbolite and Macholite.

Just did HR6 Azure Los and damn is that monster annoying. All he does is fly back and forth from one end of the area to another. It prolongs the mission so much

Whenever I'm short on cash I'd kill an Akantor and sell his shit. He's so much easier now. :lol

yeah, I liked the way the S one looked over X too.

For money, I usually do HR4 bulldrome runs. You can take him down in under a few minutes, and then go back to your farm, large bomb + the cave, and sell everything. then do the gold hammer on the bug tree, and sell all that too.

bulldrome is around 5000 gold, bombing cave can be upwards of 10,000, and the insect tree around 5000 if you nail it right. It took me a while to discover that bombing the cave and selling the loot was well worth the cost of materials. Pure profit!

good point... I'll do that later... is it guild buldrome? i'm guessing so.

its the HR 4 bulldrome. you can sell his parts at the end, and if you have time, you can climb up and mine a khezu whelp, and gather tons of mountain herbs in the top room for even more pokke points and money.

Took down my first solo Yama Tsukami today!

why oh why do heavenly rathalos scales need to be so rare?
why oh why do so many things need it??

finally got 1 after 10+ tail run attempts. still have a few weapons waiting on more of them but don wanna try it again so soon

To get the heavenly rath scales, I suggest doing silver and gold. Have a friend bring Gold Moon Armor (so you have tranq guru and celeb) and capture both after cutting their tails.

I am more than happy to wear Gold armor & Hammer to help you farm, I just sell the parts (besides the heavenly) for major cash.

anyone else get the impression that the tower levels homage Ico and Colossus?

at first the texturing and architecture seemed very close, but the bridge ending at the tower in the background of the new arena seems to add to the theory....

gold and silver together, in the arena? or separately? i've heard that in f2, the downloadable gold/silver arena quest had high yield on ruby and plates. but they were damn hard. and the couple of times that i did beat it, i got squat. so i gave up.

i'd take you up on your offer, but ad hoc party hates my home network setup. really flaky. drops out after 15 minutes or so. so i'm back to grinding it out mostly solo. like back in tha days.

xlink kai doesn't seem to be working for me consistently. i'm trying to test it out, and it sees my psp successfully, but i'm still alone in the PSP.

edit2: without doing anything but let the PSP sit there for several minutes, it seems to be working now... hope that problem doesn't happen often.

Ok, so I caved in and bought this (was holding out for a PSN release, but whatever). Anyhoo, I'm still going through all the tutorials and I have a quick question:

What should I spend my money on that I'm making by doing the tutorials?

Incidentally, After using most of the weapons now, I really like the Blowgun, which really isn't a blowgun at all but just a gun. It's fun and I like how the shells fly towards your enemies. Second to that I really like the Gunblade. Not sure what I'll end up using for real when I'm through with the tutorials, but so far I'm really love the game a lot.
