Monster Hunter Generations |OT| Generation X

Anyone want to start up a night for completionists? I had to ignore the game this summer but have finally gotten up to village five (clearing all those quests are no joke in village, took me 40 hours) and I've done...basically nothing in online.

I could be persuaded to join a weekly competitionist hunting party. I haven't done much online either.

November DLC is out: http://www.capcom-unity.com/monster...ter-hunter-generations-november-free-dlc-pack

One of the more notable items is we get a Palico with World's Strongest.

Oh shit! They brought back the Dante palico set. Between this and the Megaman set, I can bring back my Palico team of dead Capcom properties!

Does anyone know if the Aladdin's Wand IG comes with a pre-made Kinsect like the Ushio & Tora one did? I need a good thunder IG and wouldn't mind using that.

Yeah it's pre-made. Only the Glaive itself can be upgraded.

Dammit. Is it at least a good pre-made kinsect? The Ushio & Tora one was a max power kinsect if I recall, and that's just terrible. This will probably something awful like a weight kinsect or some shit I bet.

I can only hope that in MH5 they'll finally separate kinsects from IGs so this doesn't happen ever again (that and leveling up one kinsect for all of your IGs would be so much better).

Kinsect is a level 8 Blunt type with 17 Fire. It has:

84 Power
147 Weight
105 Speed
All Stats Up (S) and
RGOW Extract Up (S).

Sure I'm down.

I haven't played since the summer, been busy with school and other things.

Anyone free tonight to do some Monster Hunting? I'm good anytime after 6 eastern. Focused on doing every single low level mission.

I actually don't like having mission gaps either and I have literally done everything in single player except for some 6 star quests. I would be down but I'm off of work at 6 PST.

Man, I been working on getting the Strider set and weapon to max the past few days and I am pretty disappointed that the 'dual blades' for this set are actually just one sword and the other hand is just bare.

Also, the set comes with the skill 'airborne' which enhances mid-air attacks. That makes me think I should use the jumping style but I tried it out for the first time yesterday and it kicks small monster ass but I feel totally vulnerable fighting monsters that shoot beams or are just big in general. It feels especially defenseless compared to the adept style.

Does this style not have any dodging i-frames? I'm also wondering if the adept style dodge counts as an 'airborne' attack. I spent so much time making the set that it kinda blows feeling like I won't end up using it.

It does but they're at weird moments, I think when you leave the ground and when you hit the ground again, I'm not sure. You're also invincible when you make contact with the monster and are in the process of vaulting off them. If you're good with it you can dodge into the monster at the right time to essentially block its attacks.

I see, thanks for your response. It seems like you're pretty boned if you are nowhere near the monster and something like an Agnaktor does its horizontal fire beam.

You can still do panic dives. The aerial dodge only replaces the standard forward roll.

Looking for some help clearing a HR 7 quest for armor.

EDIT: Thanks if anyone from the thread came to help. Was looking to clear that quest for a while.

Reached 200+ hours spent on Generations , well I'm really glad I'm into this series now.

I was thinking about getting 4U , is it still worth to check it out after so many time spent on Gen?The N3DS Boost looks good too!

I read on two occasions that 4U is more balanced.

Well, it might be but I encountered quite a bit of people who had hacked charms. I guess you could say that's what ultimately turned me off...

I have seen a few people with HR 999 in generations. Is that some sort of hack too? or just lots and lots of time. Also their name was in blue.

Generations doesn't allow "impossible" charms and I don't think it supports "custom" quests that had been hacked into 4U in order to generate a ton of hunter rank points in one go. It might be possible to hack one's hunter rank directly, but the only way to tell would be to look for a huge discrepancy between hunts performed and hunter rank on somebody's guild card.

That's good. A good friend of mine IRL was doing the charm thing in MH4U and I thought his charms were legit and I kept saying 'can't wait til I get a charm like that'. When I found out, it was kind of conflicting. I didn't want to act like it hecka bothered me since it was an IRL friend but it did kind of.

Glad it's not nearly as bad in Generations.

Finally set up the best Insect Glaive I could atm in low rank (with an armor set to go with it), and JEEZ is aerial style ever awesome. I was sticking with switch axe as my main weapon in Generations, but I played IG a lot back in 4U. The new pole vault and "spinning staff" air attack is so maneuverable and aggressive; you can chase down monsters who like to back off a bit to get ready for their next attack. SO FUN.

I'm liking the Kinsect upgrade changes too. The whole thing is a lot more straightforward and I didn't feel like I had to use a guide that much. Thanks to the different jellies actually giving you the stat you want, instead of weirdly reducing other stats, it's not a giant math problem to get your preferred bug (although some of the evolutions require an esoteric stat spread).

Still a really fun weapon. I'll be sticking with it for the next little while for sure.

So when you get bored (100 hours+ in), do you learn a new weapon? I'm working on dual blades.

Do you just start with low rank armor and go thru the initial quests? Do you slowly upgrade your armor? How would you learn a new weapon since the game takes obvious pains to walk you slowly, during the beginning of the game?

Or do you just make some HR armor and jump in with a deviant monster?

If anything, it makes going thru LR village possible.

I'm usually try to learn new weapon. Switching to gunner is especially effective since it's much more resource intensive and needs a very good mixed armor (skill and style wise) to work. But sadly in MHX, the item sets is very limited so I can't really switch to gunner this time.

So when you get bored (100 hours+ in), do you learn a new weapon?

A lot of times when I get bored but don't feel like farming a new armor set or bunch of weapons, I'll just learn a new weapon style combination. I've been trying out Adapt SnS and DBs after sticking with Striker and Aerial respectively, and both allow me to play very differently from how I've been playing without putting in a lot of work farming up stuff.

For brand new weapons, my go-to quest for trying them out for the first time is the Khezu Hunt-a-thon, just because Pale Extracts are always needed and Khezu isn't hard to fight at all, especially with Adapt.

I've jumped into the bow myself for a little change of pace. I've tried starting from the beginning when learning new weapons in the past, but it can get boring doing things that way. So instead I mixed up a good armor set and did a lot of comparison hunting against monsters I think it'll be useful against. That is, I'll do a bowgun hunt against Shagaru, then I'll do a bow hunt against the same Shagaru, and I'll see which hunt goes smoother and faster. Since some weapons work better against different monsters than others, I've being trying to get a feel about which tool's most appropriate for a given situation.

Any tips on creating a good palico build? The amount of depth with skills, moves, types is a bit dizzying. Or is it something I can ignore for now, and return to when I get to the endgame?

I quite like hunting without cats, but I always feel like I'm missing out on xp...

Nebula Storm also has Sleep2 on rapid fire. With bonus shot that will do 3x50 sleep status per burst (more with Status+ skill and/or Felyne Specialist) which makes it crazy good for sleep-bombing. Many monsters will be snoozing after a single volley.

Thanks tuffy

Do you have basic armor set for those skills?
Going by memory, my basic template is usually:
  • Gourmew Toque S (or any 3 slot head piece)
  • Chaos Archbrigandine (or any 3 slot torso piece)
  • EX Brachydios Guards
  • EX Brachydios Coat
  • the best element atk up leg piece I can find
So Silver Feet for Fire Atk +2, Vaik Leggings for Water Atk +2, Genprey Leggings for Thunder Atk +2, Ingot Leggings R for Ice Atk +2 or whatever else works with the element up charms that I have.

The decorations are rounded out with 1x Salvo Jwl 3, 1x Salvo Jwl 1, and 5x Irregular Jwl 1 which I can spread over the head, torso and waist pieces. The remaining slots are filled with any element up decorations I might still need.

Quick question regarding Guard +2 and Charge Blade.

I've made a new blunt Charge Blade set that gives me Guard +2/Artillery Novice/Bludgeoner/Critical Eye +2 for use with either the Kaiser Blade or the Celestial Vortex (when I get around to making it). I plan on being in red shield mode for most of the hunt, and I know that being in red shield gives you Guard +1.

So my question is, if I already have Guard +2 and I get into red shield, how does that work? Is Guard +2 the max and I don't get any guarding benefits, or do the buffs stack and I get effectively Guard +3? If I don't getting any bonus with Guard +2, I'll switch around my decorations and grab Artillery Expert instead, but I plan on guarding a lot to abuse the free impact explosions, so if I can reduce the damage I take and the stamina spent even more than that sounds fantastic.

It does stack up to guard + 3. The benefits aren't all that great, since most things are handled with guard + 2.

Eh, as long as I spend less stamina I'll stick with it. I can eat for more impact phial damage anyway, so having Guard +2 built in is probably better for me than grabbing Artillery Expert.

Thanks for the info.

You may want to consider Guard Up as well. It will let you block anything. Artillery Expert is kind of pointless thanks to the food though. Critical Eye +2 isn't much help with the CBs you are using, so you may find more benefit from a more defensive option (which with CB means offensive thanks to switching to axe mode off GPs).
