Monster Hunter Rise PC Launch Trailer

The gameplay has to click.

I was disgusted after briefly trying the psp version many years ago and the first 3-4 tries with the world demo, but something clicked.

But do you know when it really actually clicked? After like 300+ hours when i finally got from being good at action games to being good at monster hunter.

It play like no other game but when you master this game, stuff like gow or even from games are child play in comparison.
No lock on or perfect evade with a button here, like i said i had to play this thing for hundreds of hours to learn positioning and to think how the monster think.

More capable people probably need far less time.

I remember finish GTA4 and the gameplay never ever clicked, although loved the game overall. Also the Witcher 3 gameplay wasn't really great but it's one of my best games ever. The thing with this game is seems to be old-school RPG, and I generally don't like RPG's although every game nowadays is RPG-wannabe to some extent. To put you in perspective, I won't touch Demon's Souls even for free, same with all souls games. Not because they're hard, I love hard games, but they're janky as fuck and have shallow story.

The difference is that gta4 and w3 have shitty gameplay.

Mh is just different and way harder to master.

Onestly people who think that are big shots because they beat sekiro or bb would get destroyed by mid tier stuff like glavenous or bracky, i know i was.

I think the three biggest things about MH gameplay that you have to get a feel for is:
1. sprinting holsters your weapon.
2. timing
3. sharpening

Monster Hunter gameplay is always one of those things that looks bad until it "clicks" with you.
Perhaps, but I've been trying for about ten years and the game still boils my piss.

In no way shape or form do I wish to derail the thread. People absolutely adore MH and I think part of my frustration comes from desperately wanting to like the game.

But my God the controls! They are so awful. Having to sheath your weapon is the most infuriating mechanic possible. The stop start nature of combat. Everything feels so imprecise. I have no doubt that people are absolute masters of the game and muscle memory built up over decades clicks in.

I just can't fathom how people enjoy the moment to moment gameplay. It's like something I would play on the N64. I just downloaded demo and, as always, I was actively angry after ten minutes of trying to make my character not fight like a drunk epileptic.

Anyway, I'll shut up. Everyone enjoy!

1 and 3 are very easy concept to grasp tbh, positioning close to a monster and staying on his ass while attacking and not being hit is the difficult part, especially when you can't really count on a very generous I-frame with the roll unless you invest a lot of resources on it, this can't be played like a wannabe soulslike\generic 3d action game with lock on.

Disagree, since you can just use a shield, but then you are going to have to play around with holstering and sharpening even more.
By the time you're fighting stronger monsters, you'll already have gotten past those 3 points and have gotten a feel for the game already.
Most people drop this game at beginning, not after a Rajang or whatever.

Yeah but holstering and sharpening are just simple things to do, i just don't see many people get discouraged because of that (i wasn't), kinda clunky movements, deliberate attacks with large commitment and not traditional lock-on are harder things to learn for beginners imo if we talk first 10-20 hours.

Just because the controls dont click with you it doesn't make it "awful", you want MH to play like your typical action game but it just not that type of game.

The combat has its learning curve but once you master it its very precise, more so than most games in my opinion.

Well, people can get used to all sorts....

I think Monster Hunter is very similar to something like World of Warcraft or a large, complicated MMO. Fans have spent years learning the game and, as a result, mechanics that have been largely superseded by more modern games are maintained, because fans are used to those mechanics and there is also an element of nostalgia or familiarity tied to that gameplay.

I do fully recognise that experienced players are able to make those mechanics sing.

Anyway, enough. Everyone enjoy.

With Monster Hunter Rise coming to PC, we put the original Switch version head-to-head with the new PC port to see the graphics differences.

Last year's Nintendo Switch exclusive Monster Hunter Rise is making its way to PC. We got early access to the game so we've put together a side by side comparison. The PC version is running at 1440p on max settings, although I kept motion blur and depth of field off. Don't expect any drastic improvements when it comes to visuals, it really just looks like a sharper, cleaner version of what we have on Switch. Although one major annoyance is the prominent shadow dithering on the Switch version is still here on PC and its way more bothersome here. Maybe that can be fixed in the future. If you enjoy this video, why not give us a like and sub if you already haven't, and thanks for watching.

Are we just going to use the |OT| in community to discuss this version, use this thread as some PC ports have done in the past, or make a new OT for PC version?

It's out now BTW, keys have been distributed through GMG as well.

In the past EviLore EviLore has said to just make a new thread, so there can be more eyes on it, dunno if that counts for a game that's barely a year old though.

Not a good comparison tbh, there is nothing old about mh combat mechanics, they are just harder than you average action game.

I really liked Gaijin Hunter's tutorials in the past, but he doesn't seem to have made one for every weapon for Rise, so Arekkz is probably the next best.

I would add rurikhan to that mix, he is decent enough.

Yo dude, have you saw the weapon guide from jocat? That is more of a humor thing for experts who already know weapons and meta\memes, they are fucking hilarious and very short, just an heads up, keep the sword and shield tutorial for last, remember this.

Recommend me good videos to learn weapons, I don't want to spend the entire game with hammer again
Just type weapon name + tutorial in the YouTube search box and pick and choose. There are tons of guides available and all you really need are the basics. The rest you learn through hands-on practice.

The camera is like something out of the early 2000s.
You simply don't like how MH controls so just make a BS argument about the game's controls being "outdated".

Then I guess I should consider FPS games are also outdated as well because I don't like how they control.

There's no need to get upset.

I've already said that I see MH as being like an MMO where the controls are iterative and complex. But the nature of having such a long running franchise is that certain mechanics become dated. The question for developers is whether or not to discard those mechanics to appeal to modern sensibilities or their captive audience. Looking at the sales figures, Capcom made the correct choice.

But the camera does objectively suck donkey balls.

In a world where modern games have shitty camera like souls games or ff15, i don't see how the camera in mh feels bad/ancient to you...
Souls suffers from the occasional 'corridor' moment but the actual camera control is fine.

Sorry I highly disagree with that, I would say the camera works better than most games when you fighting giant monsters.

Not really, for example the Darkbeast Paarl fight in Bloodborne you can't properly target the legs, you have to get out of lock on in order to hit his legs but when you do that you can't properly dodge his attacks.

What is wrong with camera controls in mh? you can regulate the zoom, if the movements is based on where you look with the camera or the characters, you can even customize the lock on.

No clue what he's talking about, constantly downplaying things when folks attempt to understand with it's just an opinion, enough of it, enjoy the game folks, but also constantly turning his I don't like it opinion, into being objectively outdated by its very nature, bad, obsolete, doesn't work, etc. 🤦‍♂️

Cherry on top how only fanboys of decades would like it like some ancient MMORPG (wtf) when the series after its first launch has gone through two extreme growth phases, one after moving from PS2 to PSP and 3DS and one after moving back to consoles, with fairly mainstream numbers 🤦‍♂️

Don't take this in the wrong way, but his posts weren't nearly enough to make me mad tbh, i'm in a forum to discuss with people with different opinions, i can understand how people think about Mh in the wrong way, i was one of them before getting good at the game :lollipop_grinning_sweat:
