Let's extend this further. We, as a world allow these atrocious things to exist. Damn the world.</s>

We as a world try our damnedest to prevent these things and try to help the victims recover. We don't give them safe havens and then try and sweep it under the rug.

Child porn is strictly prohibited on all parts of 4chan and is removed as soon as it's discovered. What safe haven is given?

Because due to the nature of the website it makes it very easy to ban evade. That doesn't mean it's condoned.

Then the site is flawed at its very core.

Unless a large group of people is actively campaigning against that shit there, you are all condoning it by ignoring it.

But they do have rules against it and they do moderate against it. Do you want them to make little posters on each post saying 'Pleasarinoo post no CP'?

Changing up the way the site works would be a start. Get rid of the anonymity BS and force people to create accounts with a non-free email address that need to be approved and adding more rules would be a nice change.

So you want 4chan to be NeoGAF. But we already have a NeoGAF, and you're here.
4chan is special because its different, for all it's flaws there is no site like it on the entirety of the world wide web.
GAF, on the other hand, as great as it is, is not all that different from the multitude of forums out there.

Children porn is a very rare occurrence on 4chan, at least it was back when I posted on it. I wouldn't be surprised if most users never run across it in all their time on it. I was unlucky enough to see someone spam "artistic nudes" in a thread they wanted nuked (which quickly happened), which was the only time I've seen anything like that (which shouldn't be possible given the time I spent on it and how it's being described).

Anyway good luck with your war on 4chan Kinsei. Telling people they condone child porn because they don't actively protest the existence of anonymous posting is an interesting tactic. Not sure if it's much else though.

Due to the news to that, I can post some pictures I saved from back in 2004.
Guess most wont remember cockmongler (later grinman for whatever reason), cracky-chan and actually ebaumsworld humor.

I have to say at the beginning 4chan was actually a really nice and "relaxing" place. Over the years though you really could notice a shift in the userbase from maybe young adults to teenagers. I mean primarily the old users were almost all fans of anime/manga.

You can see that also easily on /v/. While during the WoW Hype most players condoned the game, because most players played DaoC, UO, Everquest and other oldschool MMOs and bashed WoW because it was a really casual approach to the MMO formula, nowadays there are a lot of nostalgia threads about WoW. You really can see its a different generation on the board now.

It's been ages since I've been to 4chan. I remember 0chan, futaba, and others, it was really awful.

A community that allows said cesspool to exist.

You know.. I have to agree, at the end everyone was like "lol you can't do anything about it", but such unmoderation led to some other memorable (in an actually good way) things... at the end I don't think it was really worth it.

edit:

Oh I remember cockmonger, it was my initial introduction to internet humor and memes, it's so weird how social networks made them completely mainstream. No one posted in memes back then outside of the chans.

You can notice this divide by browsing older boards and then newer boards then comparing. Like /a/ vs /pol/, pretty big shift in several ways.

I'm the same, I mean I'm not on /b/ every day but I go there pretty often, I'm suprised I haven't seen some going by the amount of times I've seen it brought up as a criticism of the site. I'm aware it happens but I've never seen it, though I've seen some gross legal porn and some gore (I was tricked brehs)

I've never seen anything shifty on the other boards I go on. Darts threads on /sp/ are the GOAT comfy threads on the internet.

Oh yeah BYE MOOT THANKS.

I just think at one point the majority of the community became either teenagers or adults who did not wanna grow up.

I remember on the old boards in 2004 the discussions were actually really civil. You still had the occasional gore and CP, but the discussion culture was civil. That changed at one point and everyone wanted to "troll", when even the word was quite new on the internet.
And a lot of the uses you might meet in RL or on other boards beside 4chan or talk to them, it kinda feels a lot of them are blind followers.
"This board on 4chan says its bad. So I think its bad too."

Yeah, same. If you frequent SFW boards, even normal porn for normal people is pretty rare. It tends to only happen late at night, too. The mods of /mu/ and /tv/ are incredibly swift and strict.

Leave halfchan.

Grinman was an old experiment and proof about why crappy members spread. 4chan's problem since the beginning was that due to its anonymous nature you couldn't tell who was new. Now in theory this should be good because someone can join in on a conversation without judgement (GAF can be awful for this with its junior member stigma), but what tally happens if newcomers try to mimic the old members our at least their perception of the old members to fit in.

As we know, 4chan's reputation with the outside world doesn't exactly match the reality (as demonstrated with this thread). It's where all those wacky memes come from and everyone is rude and crude. So people pop along and hope to do just that, mostly starting with /b/ aka the containment field. This is why you get people who disrupt conversation for no reason and how it got worse over the years and stood forced memes.

Grinman took a well known meme (at the time) and renamed it to see who would take the bait. Everyone new trying to fit in, but not doing the slightest bit of lurking, rule reading or whatnot, did their damnedest to look knowledgeable in 4chan culture so would take up Grinman thinking that was his name. Of course it ended up resulting in trolling from older members using it on purpose to annoy other old members to the point grinman's use started to overshadowed Richard C Mongler's. Basically people see something being used when they first join, think that's the usual 4chan stuff and use it themselves to try and fit in.

I'm actually quite partial to the older memes of 4chan, even if they are quite crude, because they never really left 4chan unlike later one that spread throughout the web within nanoseconds. Those old ones will forever represent 4chan to me. I suppose it's why I quite liked /a/ when I still posted there, because anime and manner humour in where a lot of the old 4chan humour comes from and since it's a niche interest those jokes don't spread around the internet as much as say silly faces do.

People that post on 4chan are horrible people. I see no problem with grouping all of them together.

I could be dying of dehydration, but I still wouldn't accept a drink of water from a 4chan poster.

lol

Grinman, stretchy cat, fgsfds, afroduck. Those were the days. ;~;
Hell I still remember the original rickroll. And duckrolling even before that.

Would you support no anonymity in any online discourse whatsoever?

This is inherently diametrically opposed to the purpose of 4Chan.
