More E3 hints: something big coming for DS, and other stuff

From Jeremy and Mark MacD, respectively:

I just received my list of E3 floor/hands-on write-up assignments. I'm slightly put out that those bums at EGM swiped my hands-on time with Castlevania DS, but there's definitely enough goodness to make up for it. Specifically, among the titles I'm set to cover is a previously-unannounced DS game that is going to make a whole lot of people happy.

There'll be more info on it next week, but for now what I'm saying is that if you haven't picked up a DS yet, you should hurry along.
Hell if I know.

* ...and I, for one, am excited about everything I still don't know and a few big, BIG announcements and surprises I am sworn to secrecy about. Rest assured this is going to be an awesome show, and EGM's choice for our post-show cover is looking better and better by the day....

But something that's looking worse and worse by the day is Microsoft's unveiling of the next Xbox. That's worse as in what's the point? Everyone knows everything already.

Shane posted something about all the leaks going on at Microsoft, and I must say I'm constantly in awe at just how inept the company is at keeping a secret. (Now you know why Bungie has their own completely separate network.) Sony keeps all of their shit under wraps until the appointed hour and nobody ever has any idea what's going on at Nintendo. Well....OK, I shouldn't say nobody....we live in interesting times, my friends!

Anyway, is the size of Microsoft to blame? Or is it something about our western society where people are more willing to spill the beans? (Europe is even worse than America in this regard, believe it or not.) Is it the price MS pays for being friendly with the press? (And they are--we get more, earlier, and better access with MS than any other co, an attitude you will see reflected in the quality of our piece on the next Xbox and Perfect Dark Zero next issue.)

Not sure, but whatever it is, they should get their shit together before the leaks start doing some real harm. (A little tip to MS: people might actually give two shits about tease peeks at the hardware on your viral marketing site if they hadn't already seen the whole damn thing on just about every game message board on the internet.) Now that the hardware has leaked, it's on to the XBox Live and specific game info...

Long story short: If you're looking for me at the "big" Microsoft announcement, I'll be at the bar with everyone else who heard it all twice already on the net and MTV.

* Special thanks to Shivam and his magical pill for making my breathing, and so indirectly this post, possible. As a side note, Claritin and Drixoral Max Strength make for quite the interesting morning

I assume that by "post-show cover," he means the issue that ships in June, not the one with the PD0 cover that'll be out in a week or two. Anyway, I'm definitely not an Xbox fanboy, but I think Mark's exaggerating. I haven't seen a single real screenshot of an Xbox 360 game, and that definitely outweighs leaks about the hardware.

Is the E3 madness ruining anyone elses ability to do any work whatsoever? Can't be long till I get fired from my job for doing fuck all except reading rumours and speculation on GAF :( hurry up E3 and curse my awareness of the games industry.

Anyway. What could that DS game be?!?!?

As for MS' leaky marketing ship...the intended effect of increasing interest has worked...even if the timing and pace of it wasn't entirely intentional. Game infos leak, please.

As for the DS thing, if it's not a new Zelda, then I'm guessing that it has to be RE on DS.

The only thing I can think of for the DS game is a new Zelda Four Swords, but I doubt that would be something he says would make "a lot of people really happy." I know it would make folks happy, but he seems to be hinting at some huge surprise. Hard to say...

It could be anything.

Some big western 3rd party game (Starcraft? GTA? Halo?)

Some eastern 3rd party game (new DQ/FF? Port of one of the PSX FFs? (you'd be surprised at the compression techniques they have nowadays. Not to mention nintenedo licensed that technology to compress an hour of FMV down to under 32MB, and the fact that 256MB cards are already out there. The lower resolution of the DS screen, and its size will allow for SE to remove some details from the models and backgrounds, and a compression algorithm could be used. Hell, they could even redo all the backgrounds and have them rendered in real-time, if they REALLY want to save space. I seriously doubt a port would be a huge announcement, though). Mega Man Battle network online? )

Some Nintendo 1st party game (Most likely): New Super Mario Bros or Pokemon DS, or smash bros online

Smash Bros DS (online) will also connect to Smash Bros for the Nintendo New Sexy

lots of new fighters to unlock

That Kid... and that blue racering rat

/end guessing

The DS game is, in fact, Pikmin DS.

A whole lot of people happy? Come now. :D

Although that would be a great game. Or do you know something?

BTW, I let a complete copy of Earthbound slip through my fingers....

Saying "New Sexy" is lame. It shouldn't catch on because it's so lame.

Sure, it'd make plenty of people happy. PLENTY I SAY.

But no, I don't know anything. I'm just airing my wet dreams out on the forums. And that's too bad about Earthbound, better luck next time I suppose :(

Certainly jives with me. While it has not demonstrated it yet I can definately see at least one big thing eventually happening for it.

Is that envy? Sexy is never lame

I will call it when we have a NAME for it.

Revolution now thats lame

I'm just tellin' you, callin' it "New Sexy" is lame. Sure you can say Revolution is lame, but at least it's the real code name. It's not lame PLUS fake. :D

Has there been any news on the New Super Mario Bros. since those first couple of screenshots? I'm not sure if that would be the big game (I suspect something more along the lines of Super Smash Bros.), but one of the main reasons I bought a DS was for a new sidescrolling Mario game. Hopefully something will be shown at E3.

Don't you fucking toy with me!

Don't worry, I'm toying with myself in a sick, perverted fashion as well when I say things like it. The verbal abuse about a theoretical Pikmin DS is all I have to go on...it's my fuel.

*hugs his DS*

A full unveiling of Pokémon Diamond & Pearl is my guess (though we already knew these games were in development). I suspect they will be part of Nintendo's online DS plans.

Edit: Mother DS would rock.

I want a portable Pikmin game very badly. I was and am shocked that there hasn't been one for the GBA yet. Now that the DS is out and it's even more powerful, let's get 100 little sprite Pikmin that are controlled with the stylus and voice commands going, huh? Chop chop Nintendo!

Just thinking Smash Bros would not need to use the touch screen as much during the main Battles it would use both screens for fighting

But during adventure mode it could use the touch screen :)

Super Smash Bros. Online DS :D

Do the words "big" and "DS" just not jive with anyone else?

Why can't the DS have hugely anticipated games? Get off the hatorade.

Speakin of which why is that Marc hatin on Xenon at E3 so bad? He's bitter about something.

Do the words "previously unannounced" mean anything to you?

EDIT: Beaten.

GTA DS == BIG.

Thinking back to the original GTA games, using the voice recognition and touch screen to play the guy giving orders to an NPC vince would be very cool. (You'd watch the NPC player commit crimes in the top screen and intervene with instructions when things get outta control). Would help rockstar expand the franchise beyond the action genre.

GTA DS would not be big, because it would STILL not be advanced enough to have the sort of 'console-style' GTA games that have really become popular. It'd just be another GTA Advance type situation except with like touchable sluts or something, and it'd sell at an equal level.

Super Smash Bros. Online.
Mother3 DS
GTA DS
new Biohazard for DS (directed by Shinji Mikami)
new Metal Gear Solid (directed by Kojima)

:D :D :D

what has sold a shit ton in the last gen that isn't announced for ds yet?

Smash sounds like the likely choice.

When MS wants to keep something secret they do. They kept the .NET Framework secret for 3+ years.
Dude you can't compare something developed by three geeks in a dark room in Redmond to to a console where parts are developed all over the world and you have to tell thousands of developers about it.

It's not Smash Bros. DS Online, that makes too much sense....

Besides, that'd take away from a new Smash for Revolution a bit, and Jump Superstars is already going to fill that void, to a degree. (I'd LOVE it if that game worked online, too.)
