More Terrorist Attacks

Fuck. The count is nearing 50 dead and 140 injured. Car bombs among other explosions were set up around the hotel. 7 explosions in total. That's insane...

What no TERROR in EGYPT, or BERUIT BOMBINGS?

Rule of thumb kids, if it doesn't have a flashy graphics intro on Fox News, we don't care about it.

:: Sigh :: Such a waste of life all around in these kinds of attacks, even worse that this will probably get significantly less time in the media then it should.

The lack of posts in this thread is disturbing, yet not surprising. Where are the people from yesterday's London thread?

Anyway this sucks, man. The fuckers behind these acts will ironically burn in the hell of the god who's name they commit these killings in.

come on ghostface, when it doesn't happen to your country, it just doesn't concern you as much. the closer to home, the more reaction. I imagine not as many people from egypt post as Brits. still horrible though. fuck terrorists.

TERRORISTS: Nations of the world! Unite against us!

I can't believe people would do something like this. It's just sick... and sad... :(

Thank god I live in florida. We got nothing worth terrorizing here

Terrorist attack kills 27 in Florida today. Local police are counting 15 child molesters, 10 serial rapists, and a pair of necropheliacs.

Mother nature doesnt agree with that.

I don't think there are as many people home checking the news on a Friday evening as compared to midday during the week. :P Besides, as was pointed out, many of the posts in the London threads were from people who lived in or had family/friends in London, and many of the rest were well-wishers. I wouldn't look too deeply into any sort of possible nationalistic bias here, myself.

Terrible incidents, though. Hopefully more details are soon in coming.

You know it's true.

Actually, it's not true; in fact, I just gave you the most likely reasons why this thread has not seen more activity, all of which strike me as more sensible than your absurd "brown people = teh suck in the minds of white people" argument. But you just trudge onward with your bad self, Fresh Prince...

Sensible or polically correct?

I'm not one for political correctness (check the Mexico thread). The board is just very slow on Friday evenings; when coupled with the fact that few posters live in Egypt/Beirut, or have family/friends there, I think that explain the dearth of replies a bit better than your latent racism hypothesis. But that's just me.

I am speaking on more general terms than just this board but that's just me.

If you were making a statement regarding the relative levels of media attention given these tragedies, then that's a different story. However, your post was somewhat similar to ghostface's post, so I figured you were picking up that line of thinking and running with it (re: the lack of posts in the thread). You can't fault me for that. ;)

Its just that there are these big ass attacks happening all the time it seems (especially in the last couple of months) in Iraq, with civilian death tolls matching or surpassing those of the London and Egypt attacks, yet almost no one posts about them. Makes me wonder...

Since this thread is partially related, I'd like to know if there have been any updates on the London bombing yesterday. Is the guy that got injured going to recover quickly? I heard it was a nasty sprain. :( :(

People are only interested and/or affected by the exceptional. Bombings in Iraq are unfortunately commonplace. We will sooner discuss the rise in activity over the course of several months than the individual events.

But what does it make you wonder about? If you think that people in the West have more affection for other people in the West -- well, yes. But that's not why they don't discuss 40 dead in Iraq.

At any rate, what do you do but point fingers? Make a thread. Let us know.

Uh, I don't make many threads, period.

And my original post was mainly aimed at the peeps in yesterday's London thread going out of their way screaming "Terror is terror, you should always condone it bla bla"

I do not even think people are clicking on the thread, the title is not that descriptive. Is he stating there were more attacks, is he asking for more?

I don't really know why you care about the number of replies on this board. Basically it's full of 'bleeding heart Libruls', but even here it'll be indicative of the wider Western world.

Let's rename this thread with Tom Cruise in the title.

I think there's nothing wrong with trying to understand the causes of terrorism, but the problem is that the messengers usually have a political agenda (ie: anti-Americanism, left-wing, etc.) so that they aren't seen as 'moderate voices' asking for moderation, but an opportunistic group of ideologues taking advantage of a situation to spin it to their political advantage.

The real centrists who ask for moderation and understanding are very few and their voices are usually lost in the conservative vs. liberal shouting match. It's a shame really.

I am a centrist, which means I usually see the hypocricy of the left-right dichotomy, but people are usually most comfortable playing the bi-polar debating game than tackling the real issue and I do usually end up sounding like an anti-something or pro-something because people are so quick to label other people for criticizing their views.

It's a terrible time to be a centrist moderate.

Here it's not really right vs left (most of the right have been banned). It's more of a left circle jerk (which I admit I am most of the time happy to look on and participate in).

The ‘liberals’ here (or generally most posters here) mostly care about the middle east depending on if whatever’s happening fits with their agenda. If there’s no bush in the topic or right leaning bigots to argue against (and look like some righteous/enlightened hero, usually with zero knowledge about the middle east and just arguing against the other side – Deku nails it in this post - I'm going to save this. o_o) you really can’t tell which one is the liberal and which one is the bigot.

Blasts at Egyptian Resort Kills 62 this thread turned into GAF politics?

Is this news to you? The thread about 2 Iranian teenagers being hanged got hijacked by idealogues and turned into an anti-US anti-Bush rantfest. It's all about politics and pushing forward an agenda.

amen bro.attacks only get media when europe or america gets attacked.shamefull

One of my best friends came to Sharm-el Sheik right before the bombs went off. He went there on impulse together with his brother and his parents. Both he and his brother have been interviewed on tv and in other media, so I know they're ok, but still... he just got a baby six months ago, so this could have turned out really bad for him and his family. They planned to go to Kairo and Luxor later, but they can't go anywhere for the moment, so they might have to cut the trip short and head home. Probably for the best if that happens. I didn't even know he went until I saw his brother on tv! Scary...

In other news, Islamic extremists find that that they can get off just as well blowing up fellow Muslims.

Sixty-two dead in Egypt alone... The sadists.
