To elaborate on our previous rumor mill posting, we had also heard that Midway was contemplating naming the next Mortal Kombat game Mortal Kombat: Armageddon. A quick check on the Internet's domain records reveals that Midway had recently registered the domain name MKArmageddon.com (whois) on Friday, September 23rd, 2005. Given that the same source provided us with the Armageddon subtitle, we believe that this domain registration corraborates the story about the next Mortal Kombat fighting game remaining on current generation consoles. Check out a screenshot of the registrar record, just in case Midway tries to cover this up.

Looks like this current gen -> next-gen port shit is gonna last for the next year or so. :\

The CEO of Midway said last year that MK7 is a next-gen game.

"We're making Mortal Kombat 7," he told the audience - and a webcast, which picked up on his comments. "We'll have a PS3 SKU and an Xbox 2 SKU and we'll have a wireless SKU."

A fighting game... with a history of shallow gameplay... releasing in 2006... on old hardware?

Doesn't add up to me. Not with Tekken, DOA, KoF, VF (presumably), and Smash Bros all going next gen. I think that would mean MK7 is the only PS2/Xbox fighter releasing in 2006. Maybe that's what Midway is going for? No competition?
