Several hours ago, we learned that Ludi Lin (Black Mirror, Aquaman) was in talks to join the live-action Mortal Kombat film, and now a new report has confirmed his role as Liu Kang. However, that may not be the most exciting part of the report, as a few other casting decisions were also revealed.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lin will be joined by Supergirl actor Mehcad Brooks, Thor: Ragnarok star Tadanobu Asano and Sisi Stringer, who will be tackling the roles of Jax, Raiden and Mileena respectively.


While plot details on the New Line film remain under wraps, the video game adaptation is expected to begin filming later this year with Simon McQuoid (MK will be his first film) in the director’s chair.

Mortal Kombat, which is based on the popular video game franchise of the same name, is currently scheduled to hit theaters on March 5, 2021 and will also star Joe Taslim (The Raid) as Sub Zero

I want this to be good but I’ve got a bad feeling about it. Number one it’s from a no-name first time director. The dude may knock it out of the park. I hope he does but even if he does I doubt we’d get to see it. Producers have sent this to die in their minds. If he comes back with something awesome they’ll say “hmm we can make some money off this after all,” and change a ton of stuff in editing and post locking out the director thus turning it to shit the very thing they initially thought it was going to be. Then they can say “welp we told you so.”

yes but it's trashy fun. i like how they doubled down on the fantasy and MK-ness of it all. even if there was terrible CGI.

plus Kitana was a total babe, we won't be seeing this kind of costume design in the reboot that's for sure.

I just hope they don't go super hardcore serious with the movie, and leave it kinda campy. The casting is mostly ok except I don't like the Mileena they picked. She's more of a Jade to me, but she could work out after SFX and makeup.

I could care less for Mortal Kombat as a movie. The first movie was a cheesy dumb flick and not much else. I had no interest in a reboot whatsoever.

But whoa. Casting 2 high profile Japanese actors is a big surprise for me, Sanada especially (you guys should watch The Twilight Samurai). Still won't watch the movie unless it's rated R. I want my gore damnit.
