Mortal Kombat 2 movie coming soon. Karl Urban as Johnny Cage.

The first movie was really stupid. Hated that they incorporated the "awaken your superpower" element. One of the dumbest things I have ever seen. The abilities would have just as easily been explained with martial arts/ancient techniques blah blah blah.

I think MK 95 was good and still holds up because they aped Enter the Dragon. It was basically the same story beat for beat, just with an MK flavor. The soundtrack was god tier. I'm guessing most people in this thread had the CD back in the day lol
Exactly, lol. I mean, Dredd ruled and it aped The Raid. Nothing wrong with it if it does it very well, haha. Yeah, that OST and Spawn really kicked off the whole god tier movie soundtrack movement.

First CD I ever owned was the Mortal Kombat Immortals single, haha. Had the original song and a bunch of remixes.

Cole was also a god awful and pointless character too.

I think MK2021 could have been salvaged but Warner Bros. just suck.

Cole could have been a cool character if he was just a descendant of Hanzo Hasashi (Scorpion) and trained as a ninja in secret because of a family legend about an ice ninja that hunts his bloodline.

I also thought the Shang Tsun killing earth's combatants angle was stupid. Much better if Raiden had done what he does best and scour the land for earth's mightiest fighters…

I wonder if they got more budget to work with. Last one was day 1 on HBO Max.
That was primarily because they were just trying to work around COVID stuff still. The movie was originally going to drop during it all, but they delayed it because of that and the fact that theaters were closed as well. I think the day 1 HBO Max thing was really them trying to feel it all out. The movie still had a budget of 55 mill.

"Fiyaaaahh!!!!"

I am in. I didnt like the first one that much. I still think the first original is the best MK movie. but i love gaming / movies adaption so I am in.

Whatever it was GT, Sonic, Mario.. MK. I am all in. I was surprised actually how good GT movie was too.

I have some sympathy for Karl Urban, but he's arguably a bit past the expiration date to play the role of martial artist/movie star Johnny Cage.
I thought the same that Karl was a bit old. He is 52 and Johnny is meant to be what, early 30s or late 20s?

But perhaps that's what they are going for. An older "has been" type of cage?

Yup. "I've got to prove I still got it" as opposed to 95's "i have to prove I ever had it". Most likely.

First one was worth it (streaming) just because of Hiroyuki Sanada.

But, really, ANYthing is worth it for Hiroyuki Sanada.

EDIT: Huh. Cool pics. We'll see. The Shang Tsung actor in this series has no none ZERO gravitas. Just a piss-poor pick.

MK 1995 will never be topped
Same for Street Fighter 1995. Love those old school movies. They might be cheesy but they were fun and charming. Same reason why I also like the 90s Judge Dread movie more than the 2011 Judge Dread movie. Same for Robocop, Total Recall, the Thing compared to their reboot/remakes.

Those pics look fire. Im liking the looks so far. We will see, first one was fun movie but strange with the rando character but i still enjoyed it.
