really?

NO WAY!!!

the in-game tutorial didn't mention ANYTHING ABOUT THAT!!!

i'm talking when there are multiple enemies in close range and you want to attack them all so you don't get from the side or back... attacks just whiff for no apparent reason...

Actually there is a puzzle in the game to help you master the 8 direction combat controls where you are standing in a circle, in the center of the room and statues rush at you from all 8 directions at different times, so you have to break them all to pass that puzzle.

Maybe you're just not good at it?

Matlock:
Nothing.

The Faceless Master:
That's still news to me, it seems to work just fine if you have that lock-on pressed. I'll double check it though just to give you the benefit of doubt.

GDJustin:
I'm not a writter, sorry. But I don't think it's that poorly written. Besides, here I thought you had an issue with the content, not the context; in which case you are right, im not a writter.

Cerebral Palsy:
You are right, the gameplay is fun, but everything else falls too short to save it. It doesn't matter what order someone writes in, when it comes to game reviews, so long as they cover the important subjects. The graphics are not good man, I've seen soooo much better in MANY other places. I'm not just referring the graphics while you're playing, I'm also referring to cinemas both, pre-rendered and in real-time. A game gets a stellar score when it's truly a stellar game. Shaolin Monks is NOT a stellar game; MGS3 is, Ninja Gaiden is, DMC is, Halo is, etc. NOT Shaolin Monks. This game would make a great rental though, I would say that, but not a purchase.

TheDuce22:
Couldn't agree more.

Mmmm...Godai.

Non-interactive cinemas are clearly the most important part of any game, because games are basically just an inferior type of movie.

The gameplay is pretty good, but the artists for this game need to be fired. The cutscenes look like some low budget cutscenes from the ps1 era and the models are absolutely horrendous.

Better re-visit some of those old PS1 games. You'll be surprised how bad they look by today's standards. Take Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain for example. Tell me that MKSM looks as bad as that. Really it just looks like PS2 cg from 2 or 3 years ago.

You're right though, the models are awful looking. Like I've said before, they remind me of those old Masters of the Universe action figures I had when I was a kid in the 80s.

I wasn't talking so much about the beginning CG but the later CG cutscenes between levels and stuff. Very bad shit. Although not as bad as Blood Omen. I don't think any cutscene can approach the horribleness of the ones in that game.

I'm thinking they didn't have much to work with. MK has never exactly been the paragon of stunning artistic design

Yeah but it's bad even by mortal kombat standards.
