Most Affordable Good Pair of Headphones?

How much is affordable and what kind of headphone are you looking for (in-ear, closed, open)?

I have a pair of Senn HD280's. They're currently $75-$80 on Amazon, sound great, and are relatively private. Plus it doesn't take that much to drive them.

This is a good website for learning more about headphones -

I'm looking for something not in-ear, but affordable (think $20 to $45) and will sound good.

Too bad you don't want in-ear, I got the Sony earbuds and I love them. I used to hate that style cause they never stayed in my ear, but ever since getting these bad boys, they never come out when I'm walking around anymore. Sound quality is quite good too.

The Grado SR60's sound great but they're uncomfortable and they're open headphones so they're annoying as fuck to everyone around you.

One of my roommates has a pair and we can hear him listening to them from two rooms away.

I have those Sony silicon earbuds, but after a lot of use, there are some sound problems with them. They're great for portability, and the sound quality for earbuds definitely rocks, but there are sound problems that irk me and I've been told that's mostly a problem with in-ear.

I'm looking for something that I can trek to and from work and school with, while using the earbuds for other errands.

I really like those Sennheiser 212s, but I need something where I'm not dragging the cord two blocks behind me.

Really? Mine are pretty recent so I don't know what you're referring to. What do I have to look out for?

I'd try the Senn PX100's. The only problem is they're open.
Do yoursef a favor and buy these. I think they cost a bit more than $45 but they sound damn good.

For in-ear headphones, Sony EX71 all the way. Amazing sound for the money ($45). Next (and last) step in quality for earbuds would be Etymotic in-ear but they cost around $200.

Mind if I piggyback on your wonderful thread, Mr. Willco?

I'm looking for PC headphones with a mic attached, for chat and COUGHCOUGHunrealtournament2004COUGHCOUGH!

Any recommendations?

Hmm, EX51 are pretty much the same thing as EX71, as far as audio quality goes, but EX71 earpiece is made of a different silicon material which is more comfortable.

Are you sure the hiss is not simply there in your audio source? What are you using to listen to music?

I can definitely hear hiss with those buds easier than with anything else but that is only because it's there to begin with. Songs that are produced (and eventually encoded into MP3) properly have none of it.

That's what happened to me. After getting EX71s the hiss in some of my low-quality Mp3s was far more noticeable. But I don't blame the headphones for that.

It also makes all the audio popping in THUG2 on PSP more noticeable too :(

I absolutely love my Senn HD-25s (not to be mistaken for the HD-25 SPs), although they're pretty hard to find nowadays. They're a compromise between the sound quality of the bigger Senns and the portability of a smaller pair of headphones, and they've got a headband that can be adjusted to change how tight they are on your head and have an extremely durable cord. They also block out almost all outside noise and leak no sound at all. I was able to find mine used on eBay for $85 shipped.

Sennheiser PX100
They are well suited to the iPod since the iPod lacks bass and the px100's is a bit bass heavy (not boomy though)

Koss KSC-35's and 75's if you want clip-ons though

Oh shit. No way we could get them for that price here in the UK. Buy those. :lol

Gah.

EDIT - Still can't go wrong with Shures though. And I love the cable on them. Even though I just sent mine in because the insulation had split. :lol

Cable down your back = cool, and makes you feel like a rock star. People randomly stop me in college asking about my 'phones. :lol

I HAVE ARRIVED.

how much? what kind of music? what form factor?

APPARENTLY, I CAN'T READ

there is nothing you can buy for 40 bucks that's in ear and sounds good. you're looking at min 100$ for that (shure, er6(i)). ex71s are passable... and the senn earbuds (mx400, etc) aren't terrible for like 30-40, but you should probably get some clip ons or over the head for that much (px100, koss portapro or derivative).
