Most Creative Game of 2004

Time to start thinking with the right side of your brain. Which game do you think was the most creative game of 2004?

We're talking about innovation not only in gaming concepts like control, gameplay, and graphics, but also the important (and in my opinion overlooked) quality of creativity.

DIFFICULTY: I'm willing to accept opinions involving sequels or games in a series, provided you give detailed explanations as to why you feel this is the MOST creative game last year.

My vote goes to Katamari Damacy. Charming, addictive, colorful, eccentric. Way off the chart for most gamers. A return to simple gaming.

....

Although READ and SKIM each have four letters, they have two completely different meanings.

they were pretty obviously joking, as many consider them to be rehashes of the nearly identical games that came from their series the previous year

Feel the magic was creative, but it was just a bunch of mini games. They were all good for the most part, but as a single idea, Katamari wins i think.

No shit Sherlock :)

Halo 2 for the XBox Live implimentation. I've been looking for an online game to address keeping the game accessable for newbies Online, and H2 did it.

I have to say Galleon, not for its graphics or sound (even though it has one of the best voice acting ever), but for its perfect controls. You have to get used to them, but when you are they work so great!

i know something that beat Katamari Damashi, it's Kenta "genius" Cho Tumiki Fighter!! it's prior art on the whole glue character idea.

X-play once did an episode about gay games, and there was a game on there that was a sidescrolling shooter where you play as greasy bodybuilders who protect a glob of "protein". You have to shoot guys in bunny suits and one of the bosses was a huge drag queen. I wouldn't want to play it, but it looked original.

I'd say Half Life 2. I'm not a huge PC gaming fanatic and never really got stuck into Half Life in the first place.

But it did do a bit of stuff that isn't quite common in FPS today.

So making the game newbie-friendly--and thus making it the pile of crap that Halo 2 is (compared to the first)--was creative?

Just curious, but what's the difference between creative and innovative? These answers are the exact same as the answers given for "What's the most innovative game in 2004?"

If we're looking at games that have revitalized a franchise/changed a genre, then RE4 should be the victor. If we're looking for the most ingenuitive game overall, then Damacy's gotta capture the win. It's the first of its kind in every way imaginable.

-Halo 2 XBL implemtation in conjunction with Bungie.net statistics and game viewer (future of console online gaming)
-SplinterCell Pandora Tomorow online multiplayer
