Most Intuitive RPG

Name the game that is the easiest to simply pick up and play. No lengthy in-game tutorials, no guides, no prior experience.

Breath of Fire II

I'd say a few others but they look like utter shit compared to today's standards. Doesn't matter if you picked up the GBA or SNES version, but it might be easier to get the GBA version because you gain double experience & money after each battle win which makes the game a WHOLE lot easier in the first 1-2 hours.

No lengthy dialogue, quite a religious story if you decide to delve into it and quite simple overall. Traditional Japanese RPG.

Did anybody ever play the classic "Live A Live" by squaresoft for the super famicom?

The game was split up into several different stories (shudder...think Unlimited SaGa...) and you got severa characters to choose from.

There was a caveman scenario you could choose that had no dialogue in it...the story was completely driven by pictures in the text bubbles.

There is a depth to Nethack unlike any other RPG I've played. Certainly on the surface its quite simple, but to actually progress into the game takes tons of experience.

Final Fantasy 1.

Actually, Fable is a good choice for an introductory game if you're looking for an action RPG with real-time combat.

Paper Mario is a good introduction to turn-based combat.

Ha ha, didn't that game have some rather "funky" tunes contained within? I think I've played a little bit of that once before...

Yeah, Live A Live is one of my most underrated but favorite games ever... sure, the graphics were painfully obsolete in 1994, but the tunes were good (Yoko Shimumora I believe), and the whole concept of the game was great. I loved the caveman stage, where everybody communicated with thought bubbles, and the cyberpunk stage with the badass music and the purposefully cheesy Akira style anime plot to it. And of course I was freaked out in the 2001:A Space Odyssey type spaceship, definitely one of the most haunting atmospheres in an RPG.

Pokemon.
I mean come on. There's no better pick up and play RPG then that. Addictive as hell too.
i tried it, and it failed to hold my interest. definitely not pickup and play to get instant satisfaction and entertainment.
