I don't really like any RPG's like these except The Witcher 2 and 3, Fable 1, and KCD to some extent. Witcher is GOAT'd though.

Ultima for me even if it dropped the ball with the final installment. I still enjoyed it.

Quest of the Avatar was so ahead of its time and different than the normal story lines at the time. It was refreshing. It started the golden era of 4,5 and 6. All excellent games.

Spin offs and mmo got that coveted too. Martian Dreams was a nice change of pace too.

For Modern it's Mass Effect trilogy even if the RPG elements are light. Might and Magic and SSI gold box if that's cheating, I don't know.

Witcher is the best but Fallout is my favorite

Elder Scrolls is also phenomenal

Edit: I've tried to get into Mass Effect so many times and I couldn't. Same with Outer Worlds and Starfield. Maybe I just hate space.

Elder Scrolls. Not the best quality-wise, but good games.
ESO > Oblivion > Skyrim though.

AC Shadows is cool, but that's mainly due to the visuals.

Couldn't stand more than 3 or so hours of The Witcher 3. Mediocre af, imo.

Couldn't care less about all the others (though Baldur's Gate looks cool).

Baldur's Gate for sure, all of the infinity engine games really, I consider them a complete set.

Owlcat's Pathfinder comes in a close second, their 40k rpg was excellent as well.

The first two Fallouts were some amazing games too, I was not a fan of the direction Bethesda took with the franchise.

Another honorable mention for Larian's Original Sin games.

The RPG franchise is called Dungons and Dargons not Baldur's Gate. The top 2 are Fallout and Pathfinder but Bethesda drag the Fallout franchise down with their nonsense so I have to vote Pathfinder so as not to be associated with mouth breathers.

Pre-Bethesda Fallout (I & II), still the unmatched epitome of a post-apocalyptic setting in video games created by great & immersive writing, realistic motives, world-building and distinct art. It's amazing how Bethesda totally missed the mark of what made the original games such amazing experiences, yet achieved to popularize the franchise.

I probably enjoyed Baldur's Gate the most, but that's just a small slice of D&D and nothing original, so I'd say Fallout.

I could've written this paragraph myself, it aligns with how I feel about Fallout and Bethesda.
The first two Fallouts were amazing experiences.
Bethesda's output much less so, but those sold so that's Fallout now and it makes me sad.
3 was crap, NV was partially saved by its writing, 4 was a steaming pile that somehow made 3 look better by comparison. Don't get me started on 76.
Bethesda has essentially killed one of the best franchises for me, I will not be picking up whatever abortion that drops between their legs that they label Fallout anymore.

Baldur's Gate, Ultima, Gothic, Darklands.
Maybe Torment if we cheat and count D&D as the "franchise".

Honorable mentions for the Might & Magic series and Fallout 1 and 2 (but fuck the Bethesda ones, they are trash).
EDIT- Also, all the recent Owlcat releases (Pathfinder, Rogue Trader) have been strong candidates.

P.S. TES is winning handily here but I wouldn't even put it near a top ten.

Starfield is my favorite WRPG, but it's just 1 game right now.

I only like 2 WRPGs as franchises actually, meaning more than 1 game. If Elder Scrolls 6 delivers, I guess the answer is Elder Scrolls.
  • Mass Effect 1 and 2
  • Morrowind and Oblivion
  • I do enjoy Fallout but I only played 3

Tough choice, but I have to vote for Mass Effect. I've spent so much time with those games. I replay them every 1-2 years.

It has to be Mass Effect for me. I regularly replay the entire trilogy when I barely replay single games in other series. Well, maybe KotOR as well but KotOR is like proto-Mass Effect anyway.

Voted for Baldurs Gate.

But after reading the thread, am thinking it should have been Fallout. Simply cause it has Fallout 1 & 2 alongside 3D ones.

But am cool with BG as well.

I love TES and The Witcher, but there is nothing else like KCD 1 & 2 and for me, it wins. Far more immersive than everything else on the list

IWD, NWN, Dungeon Siege by average score of all games. Kotor not bad.
DA, BG, ME suffers from late gate syndrome where newest games just meh that draw average lower across all games

The Witcher. I love the lore in the game, and after playing the standalone Gwent game, allowed me to apreciate even more all the side characters and monsters.
