Most under-appreciated game per platform... where was the love?

The game has to be exclusive to the platform and must have suffered in sales, reviews, or just a backlash from consumers... yet still be good.

I'll just do one game, but everyone can chime in with their game(s) of choice. Just one per platform though.

My pick: Kung Fu Chaos for Xbox.

The game is insanely fun whether you're playing single player or multiplayer. Production value was through the roof. You could tell that "Just Add Monsters" had a great time making the game. I played it again last night and was amazed at how well it has held up. One of the few Xbox games that is locked at 480i, but it still looks great on my 65" Mits. Great level variety with some fairly deep fighting mechanics. This was no button masher, but you didn't have to memorize moves for hours either.

There was a general backlash because of the stereotypical characters. Shao Tin (the in game director) wears coke-bottled glasses and speaks perfect broken Engrish. However, the game would have been bland without the outrageous characters.

My under- appreciated game of choice goes to:

It's been given generally poor reviews, reviewers citing repetitive boring backgrounds, and the inabiltiy to move and shoot at the same time. I love it the combo system worked great and trying to chain them was fun and rewarding. The music was incredible and it even supported progressive scan. Loved it so much I got the papillion suit and beat every level on professional and got the special ending.

Here's a pic of the much vaunted papillion suit

Not alot of variety in stages and it suffered from a pretty shitty control scheme, but it's still alot better than what it's credited for.

Edit: beaten.

Kung Fu chaos had a great sense of humour, but the game got old really fast.

My vote would have to go to

xbox:
Buffy

GC:
Wave Race

Ps2
Winback

Awesome Presentation = CHECK
Awesome Music = CHECK
Sweet Story = I loved the hand drawn cut scenes, truly awesome
One of the Best games on PS2 = CHECK
Graphics = Hey it's no Crimson Skies or Rouge Leader but gets the job done. CHECK
Gameplay = Short but addictive, I dunno how many times I beat this game. CHECK

Thank god it sold 1.5 million copies in NA (probably more worldwide) :D

That's not a real cover for AC4, is it (doesn't seem so)?! That's truly awful. That logo is just painful...

Such a fun, colorful game (Gotcha Force, GC). Got ripped to shreds in reviews for having a sometimes annoying Capcom camera and for the absolutely horrendous story/voice work.

Is Dark Cloud 2, a valid answer? Or maybe it has crossed over into the "over" appreciated category.

I think it is one of the top 5 Playstation games of all time.

Alone in the Dark: The new nightmare DC version. The way the torch worked was brilliant this game doesn't get enough credit.

GCN

1) Wario World
2) Wario Ware Inc. Mega Party Games
3) 1080: Avalanche (Come on, it can't be THAT bad)

Xbox

1) Voodoo Vince
2) Arx Fatalis
3) Thief 3

I think Sega wins everywhere honestly...

PS2~ Rez
GC~ F-Zero GX
GBA~ Astro Boy: Omega Factor
Xbox~ Panzer Dragoon Orta

PS2 or Xbox: Toca Race Driver 2 (i think it's still the best racer out there in overall)

Gamecube: Billy Hatcher (best Sonic Team game this gen.)

Xbox: Kingdom under Fire - this game is amazing on so many levels from the graphics to the game mechanics

GC: Super Mario Sunshine - Ok, it is maybe not up there with Mario 64 but I had damn fun with it. Easily my favorite platformer this generation

PS2: Castlevania: Lament of Innocence - Not Ninja Gaiden quality for sure, but one of my favorite ps2 games. Simple, yet fun. Great music and atmosphere.

Multiplatform: Second Sight - love the atmosphere and cool game mechanics

eek. I hated this trash of a game.

I had a decent time playing through it with a friend, but if anything, I think it was overrated. It definitely could have been a lot better.

I definately agree with ED (haven't played Mafia). I also loved Luigi's Mansion, 1080: Avalanche, and holy hell was Fzero GX under appreciated. It's sales were awful. A fucking shame I tell you. =_(

*bows down to Fzero GX's awesomeness*

PS2: Baldurs Gate Dark Alliance
XBox: Rallisport Challenge
Game Boy Advance: Fire Emblem
GameCube: Pikmin 2
Dreamcast: Power Stone 2

Everyone talks about RSC 2, but no one talks about this game. It's not as pretty as RSC2, but the physics are much better; and the sound is great. It's really more of sim than RSC2. The biggest complaint is weak, weak, weak Xbox Live support.

Uh, maybe not in america but in Europe Colin are the most popular rally games. Even though they`ve all sucked since the second game.

Without question. This game has 250 PLAYABLE characters to boot with nice 4 player modes. Capcom should make a sequel but make it more like a Pokemon RPG and make Borgs upgradable in parts. Everybody I know who bought this game loved it despite its presentation and camera. So much potential.

gc: pn03
ps2: either neo contra or nightshade
xbox: outrun 2
gba: advance guardian heroes or ninja five-o

Ghost Hunter is almost in my impulse buying price range.

RAD reminds me of watching Johnny Sako's Flying Robot when I was young and is therefore one of the coolest games ever.

My picks were mainly sales related, looking at them they all had a lot of deserved critical support though. I'm changing things around.

Advance Guardian Heroes (GBA)~ Unfairly bashed for not being it's Saturn predecessor. Guess what? It's better.

Cubivore: Survival of the Fittest (GC)~ The aesthetics probably didn't help but come on poeple. It's got Hump Points!

Culdecept (PS2)~ Even people here don't know what it is. :(

Xbox: Outrun 2 (probably the last great Sega game ever, and no-one bought it)
PS2: Way of the Samurai (sure, crap graphics, very very short, but one of the most atmospheric games I've ever played)
GBA: Fire Emblem (one of my favorite games ever, but no-one even heard of it here in Europe)
GC: um...Eternal Darkness or F-Zero GX (crap sales, brilliant games)

I agree/endorse this comment.

PS2 : Shox
Xbox : Deathrow
GC : PN03
GBA : Crayon Shin chan
DS : Hitofude
PSP : Mah Jong fight club

yes, the first one.

and i'm tempted to say halo 2. the amount of backlash for its live play and even more for its single player just absolutely blows my fucking mind.

PS2: Shinobi

Gamecube: F-Zero GX (Honorable Mention: Eternal Darkness & P. N. 03 tie)

Xbox: Otogi 1/2 and Panzer Dragoon Orta three-way tie (Honorable Mention: JSRF, it's a lot better than most people give it credit for)

GBA: Boktai

DS: Chokkan Hitofude/Polarium

I know what it is, and I always think about grabbing a copy when I see it, but I keep remembering something about it being best if you play with several people, which leads me to think that the single-player is lacking. Is this true, or is it worth getting for just the single-player mode, considering that gaming time with my friends is currently a limited thing?
