Buffy is definitely a canidate; really good brawler.

I think it's one weakness is the use of a lock on system, which went out of style just around the time of the game's release. Couple that lock on with bad strafe animation and it can be hard to go back today and think it looks as good as it plays.

Reviewers usually don't get it wrong; if they give a game a middling score, that means that committed fans of the genre/series would probably still think it was the best thing since sliced bread. Now, if a game is really great but it doesn't SELL well, then that tells you it's being underrated by the public, and now you have games like Psychonauts to contend with.

Can something be underrated when people don't PLAY it? Undersold and underrated are two very separate beasts, I'd say. If we're talking consumer apathy, I throw my vote in for WarioWare Twisted!.

Psi Ops, Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath, Pychonauts and Advent Rising are the four games that pop into my head first when I think of underated games.

It's possible that the turd Medal of Honor: Rising Sun sold more than all four of these games put together. So sad really.

You have a point, Doom 3 was a product of the odd phenomenon of being so overrated in initial reviews that it's inadequacies were blown way out of proportion and it suddenly became universally slated as a total crapfest, which is far from truth. I will say, however, that this is all id's fault for overhyping the game to such rediculous levels in the first place.

Edit:- Oh, yes, my own suggestion. That'd be the wonderful Luigi's Mansion. The fact that so many people didn't give it a chance simply because they were looking for a Mario 64 rehash to launch with the system was a real shame, as it remains one of the most original and enjoyable games of this generation, and a prime example of what sort of care Nintendo can still put into making games nowadays.

This is kind of a neat game...but I bought it based on the gaf talk and was a little dissapointed. It's the sort of game that never really meets its concept because of horrid coding and implementation. I'd like to see a cleaned up sequel.
