MotoGP3 - Xbox, Xenon, or both?

Got my new OXM in the mail last week and was rather shocked to see a MotoGP 3 preview. Once the information came out that Climax would be using XNA tools and that the release date was Fall '05, it became an assumption that the game was for Xenon... not Xbox.

Well the OXM article clearly states that that it will indeed be released for Xbox... but the screenshots look too amazing. I just can't believe that the Xbox can handle such a game... furthermore, why wouldn't Climax take the opportunity to have a release title? MotoGP 3 will be lost in a library of over 600 games by the time it gets released. As a launch title it will be one of 25-50 games. Much better odds at being a success.

I'm betting that Climax will do both. I'm sure MS would love for them to show just how scalable XNA is (motogp 3 is also for PC) and show the difference between games on Xbox and games on Xenon. Probably showing the Xenon version at 1080i resolution with 60+ fps and increased Xbox Live capabilities.

I noticed the same too. Completely unexpected, considering the series, unfortunately, hasn't been too successful on the Xbox.

This would r0x!

If true, MotoGP3 won't be the only game to do this cross-platform release on Xbox/Xenon. Off hand, I think Madden 2006, The Godfather, and Battlefield 1942 (console version) will all be simultaneously released for Xenon and Xbox. It will be interesting to see how much difference there are between the different versions.

MotoGP 2 is THE best RACING (read: not car or driving) game on Xbox, and probably on the current gen of consoles.. I got the game recently and it is just amazing. The online implementation is one of the best I've seen as well. I really hope that MotoGP 3 is an Xenon launch title so that it gets all the attention it deserves..

Guess I'm the only one not impressed the screenshots? It's all replay with blur and what not. Doesn't look realistic, nor especially pretty.

Granted, I didn't see them in print, but they don't look next-gen at all, definatly Xbox 1.

When the game was originally announced, it was announced specifically for Xbox and not any next gen consoles. That doesn't rule them out though.

MotoGP2 is probably my favorite game from this generation. If MS were to release another console and MotoGP3 were to be released for it, I would pick one up at launch. Which makes me almost hope that one of those doesn't happen, because I don't like being an early adopter :lol

I can't provide any scans, but I'll post a couple of blurbs from the article.

"This year, accessibility is a central theme of the design, as is keeping the intense depth of the game alive - a staunch challenge for anyone. Climax is hoping to accomplish this in two ways. For one, the single-player and online experiences are intended to mesh together with a unique ranking system. The game analyzes how well you're racing and sets the A.I. bot level and the level of the players you're matched with online to pair up neatly with your own skill level."

"Another way that the game intends to reach out to gamers who want more variety than the traditonal real-world racing tracks is by including road racing on city streets."

"MotoGP 3 also looks absolutely stunning. With the new normal mapping engine applied to the riders and asphalt to really bring out the detail, along with the new camera and weather effects, MotoGP 3 rises to that rarified stratosphere of games that are squeezing every pixel and shader out of the powerful Xbox system."

I dont really see what next gen could add to motoGP, it already looked damn near perfect.

But if thats road-racing with traffic im in, ive always wanted a bike racing game with traffic filled streets.

The worst thing that could happen would be THQ releasing this near Xbox 2 launch on Xbox only and the game wouldn't sell and destroy the franchise.

i dont know if they are making moto GP 3 for xenon, but just because they say they are using XNA in development doesn't mean it is for xenon. Most of the XNA tools have been around for a year or two, like PIX and the audio tool on Xbox.

Well theres still a large installed base, plus, most Xbox 2 owners by then (if the system even launches...I personally think they'll wait for what Sony will do) will probably have an Xbox also anyways, so they will buy most likely. Plus what if it's backwards compatible?

I don't forsee much trouble, but bringing out a great launch title for a next-gen platform could also be very interesting for sales.

The release date in the OXM MotoGP 3 preview is listed as Q2 2005.

thats awesome they have the shots on the site, and the game looks great, though obviously xbox. xenon games should look waaaaaay better

If anyone could PM me the screens i would be in your debt :)

Reading is good. Understanding what you read is better.

Awesome, I can't wait!

I remember having so much fun in MotoGP on Xbox Live. I would play for hours just to shave a second off of my lap times. I stopped playing when people started to find a bunch of glitches though. On one track there was a spot you could crash into and then it would warp you out to the other side of the track. Have they patched that yet? I feel like playing it right now...

I stumbled on to this article in the new OXM and almost dropped a load in my pants. I was completely sure that this was Xenon only and had given up all hope we'd see an Xbox version. Goddamn, that shit looks hot. This is one of my most anticipated games, by far, right up there with the new Zelda. I'm a little wary of the new direction--hope Climax doesn't dumb it down in their quest to appeal to everyone. The technical aspect of the racing was the most incredible thing imo--I don't even remember how many controller configs I went through trying to master everything (especially when I finally went manual). Oh man. :) Just thinking about all the new challenges has got me all giddy.

Here's hoping the NSR still isn't the whoremobile it currently is....
