Well, Whiterose was talking about an "alternate reality" where the 5/9 hack didn't happen (i.e. our world) and the FBI operation is called "Berenstain", so...

Elliot is going to enter the world of "Person of Interest". That's the twist.
Too many episodes end in cliffhangers or were failing to answer really important questions to the point where it became unsatisfying.
Also I'm still pissed episode 4 was still like 25 minutes longer than the average episode and that ha s the least amount of plot development.

It would be a really weird ass curve ball with how grounded the show is to throw time travel or alternate dimensions into it. But then WTF would Whiterose be working on at that plant?
I also think Tyrell is most likely in Elliot's head, especially after when Tyrell (in the cab) says: "Elliot stop it" something way out of character for him and even more so the way he said it, I'm not even mentioning the last line from first part of the finale.
I'll be OK (although not super happy) if Esmail goes with the unreliable narrator and unreliable time narrative from here on out.
I loved season 1 and even if I believe season 2 is inferior in almost every way there's no other show on TV right now that keeps me waiting for next week like this one. I'm one of those who believe that the finale will either make or brake this season, crossing fingers for the former.

Why would it be out of character? Tyrell's trying to get him to stop calling attention to himself (Elliot), and stop the cab driver from asking questions. Not to mention, Tyrell has no idea that Elliot is mentally damaged. He's assuming that the Elliot with the Mr. Robot persona is the same Elliot that took down ECorp, when it's likely not the case. If he was all in Elliot's head, then why mention that he's exposed outside of the cab and needed to find a place ASAP? Also, does Elliot even know that Tyrell is the most wanted man in America after going to prison? Last I checked, Mr. Robot said that it wasn't safe for Tyrell to communicate with him. And lastly, how does it explain why Joanna was able to know about the gifts she keeps getting (especially those that require intimate knowledge of the family) and its meanings?
The reason I think he's alive is because Stage 2 is likely Tyrell's way of getting back at the company for screwing him over, and sets up his character arc nicely (from wanting to work together in S1 on his terms in ECorp, to now essentially being a hacker and working alongside Elliot and The Dark Army). After all, he is obsessed with power as much as Elliot is obsessed with taking down the corporate world. And knowing Tyrell, I fully expect Stage 2 to be something batshit insane involving collateral damage. Not to mention, Tyrell is the only reason that Mr. Robot is afraid when Elliot snoops around, which implies there's something he's hiding that he does not want Elliot to fuck up on. Robot would never disappear if it was just another dissociative state.
It's a good theory. My theory is that Tyrell is actually dead, as Mr Robot said, and that Tyrell and Mr Robot will become his angel and devil on his shoulders throughout the rest of the show, bickering and fighting over him.
But it all comes down to what's in that location that "he'd never go to", according to Sutherland (Joanna's bodyguard).

All I can think of is Tyrell's breakdown in front of Joanna when he said he found God. Clearly stage 2 is massive if that's Godhood to him.

The thing is...Robot also said this in Zero Day.
It's at this point that I think Robot stopped caring about telling Elliot the truth, and cared more about playing mind games (not that he cared in the first place, but still). I believe he told Elliot that Tyrell was dead in handshake as a way to manipulate him. If you notice, Elliot was hellbent on believing that Tyrell was dead no matter what Robot said/didn't say. So, in Mr. Robot's position in S2, why not exploit that flaw to get him to unite with you? Especially if it gets Elliot back onto a terminal ASAP.
As for the location. Upper East Side says a lot on its own. Scott Knowles makes sense, but considering what's happened (we don't hear from him after the 6mil public burning), and how the show placed a lot of emphasis on Price, Madame Executioner, and Knowles as the backbone of ECorp, I wouldn't be surprised if Tyrell had Knowles killed off to complete his revenge and maybe get Stage 2 going.
I gotta say, this show is sooo much better as a binge watch rather than watching week to week.
I enjoyed the first 2 eps of the season but ep 3 was a chore to get through, to the point where I actually decided to stop watching. Now that the finale is tomorrow I spent the last 2 days catching up, and ended up starting from the very beginning, which was a much more enjoyable experience. I just don't think this show works nearly as well going week to week. Makes me wish it was a Netflix show where they just drop all the eps at once.
I agree that there were some pacing issues in certain eps, but binging through them helps mitigate some of that, and the season's story arc seems a lot better put together as a result. I thought the twist w/ Elliot was fairly obvious since there were clues from the very beginning, but I still like the way it was delivered.
The characters, cinematography, music and general flow of this show are all fucking awesome. I'm sad that it's about to go on a break. I'm somewhat envious of the person who discovers this show after it's run and binges through the entire thing (assuming it stays good)

That all definitely checks out. For me it's Tyrell's sudden appearance and how the taxi driver never would answer Elliot about him being there. It all came off as fishy, though I suppose that was the point.
I guess I'm just paranoid about everything in the show now, especially since Esmail said he wouldn't yank our chain this season and then pulled the jail trick (as telegraphed as it was).
I definitely agree with you. The second season was dragging for me week to week, but I watched the last four in one day and it was much, much more enjoyable.
So is it safe to say tonight's episode is this series most critical moment outside of it's premiere?
With the show picking up interest due to the Emmys, and a critical point of the story which promises all the answers in this episode, it better deliver. Without jumping the shark.

The final shot of Elliot last episode is the last we will see of him this season. We wont find out where Tyrell took Elliot at the end of last episode until next season.
That one gets a pass since it's currently where the books are cliffhanger'd, a better example would be The Walking Dead's recent cliffhanger.
I don't think Tyrell has been a persona of his until after he went to prison and "heard" Tyrell on the phone.
Part of me wants to see them go full-on Ano circa episodes 25/26 of Neon Genesis Evangelion just to see the aftermath online.
Then next season begins on a tropical island and we won't see Tyrell again until eight episodes in, when Elliot goes down a hatch.

I was watching the first season again, and when Elliot has a crazy fever dream from going through withdrawals, his dream has a little girl like the one Whiterose hired off craigslist, she gives him a key, and there are multiple shots of fish.

Rewatching Robot really does open up horizons. I realized the same thing you mentioned where you can clearly see how Darlene seems to see Elliot as a family member. Hell, rewatching debug made me realize that Elliot was talking about Mr. Robot being a bug far BEFORE the reveal.
Can't wait to get S2 and then see what I missed from my initial weekly watches.

Wasn't it episode 10 when Angela asked who Elliot was talking to at one point? She asked was if it was his dad, or someone else. I have a feeling that'll be significant.
Also, while it maybe wouldn't have the same impact as some of the theories floating around, I'm guessing phase 2 involves the ECoin strategy.
Not really sure how White Rose's plant fits in to everything though.
