The Xbox Bethesda deal likely won't run afoul antitrust investigators.

Microsoft dropped a bombshell announcement this morning when it announced Xbox will acquire ZeniMax Media, which includes hit studios like Bethesda, id, and Arkane. Some have wondered if this is a scenario similar to Disney acquiring Fox, but according to a legal expert, Xbox's Bethesda acquisition is a fundamentally different kind of deal.

Following the news of Xbox's major studio acquisition, some commenters wondered if this deal would be subject to investigation from antitrust authorities. But whereas the Disney Fox merger was an example of horizontal integration, the Xbox Bethesda deal is a vertical integration, which is more complicated from an antitrust law perspective, and historically has not been an issue for antitrust investigators in the entertainment content space."

It'd be incredibly hard to call anything a monopoly in gaming at this point. MS could buy EA and WB on top of this and still not fit a definition of a monopoly.

Feel better OP

The industry under one company. The industry is one game.

"Microsoft has put its thousands of studios to work on a single title. It's supposed to be their biggest yet."

If Microsoft gets nailed as a monopoly it's going to be because of Windows or Office/Teams, not freaking Bethesda lol

Also I'm not quite sure Disney/Fox is strictly horizontal given that Disney controls numerous distribution channels in numerous different media (including non media such as theme parks), but that's a whole different discussion.
